Any idea on who these folks might be? How might you date this? 60’s 70’s?
It’s a great photo and I am guessing they are just random folks having fun but wanted to see if anyone here would know.
Thank you in advance for your time. It is greatly appreciated as always!

Find the doowop and soul folks around here. Could the middle guy be Frankie Valli?

Thanks Jay, I would not know but I am hoping someone here does!

is it framed? is it an original photo? might be worth taking out of the frame to see if someone wrote on the back.

That’s an awesome picture! Don’t recognize anyone. My son works at a recording studio in NYC. I’ll text him the pic and see if he can get any answers by showing it to his coworkers. Sort of looks like rudimentary recording equipment in back, doesn’t it?

i thought the one lady with the dress looked like grace slick a little (though she didn’t really dress like that) and i googled some images of jefferson airplane and their studio setup looked similar to this photo, very rudimentary.

Sent him a text of the pic. He floated the possibility of Phil Spector and Ronnie (from Ronnie and the Ronettes) being two of the group. They were married at some point.
He also said that they have some of those same mic stands at the studio and they’re from the early 70’s.

He’s adding the possibility of a group called “The Wrecking Crew”. Says he may be wrong about Phil, but feels fairly confident about Ronnie.

I second Ryanne’s idea about taking it out of the frame. It’s very often a good idea.

Ike and Tina Turner

the guy on the far left might be Jerry Blavat, the geator with the heater,,, if so, I’d guess the photo was taken in Philly.

the man in the suit and tie on the right, certainly looks like Earl Palmer who was a drummer in Wrecking Crew.

You guys are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much. I am going to look up all your suggestions and see what I find. And I will if there is anything on the back. Stay tuned!

I am reluctant to open the frame because the item is so tightly in there it would take some doing and I might just cause too much damage.
However, in the meantime, someone I know who is a musician suggested that the lady on the left might be Nancy Wilson. So it is a toss up between Nancy Wilson or Ronnie Spector at this point for the lady on the left. But the lady on the right might just be another Ronnette… the mystery continues.

If anyone is interested in the listing itself I am always very happy for feedback on how I might do it better. Right now I went a little crazy on the price just to hold it there until I might get a better idea of who the people are.

Sigilini,
I would offer that you not put anything in your listing title or description about the picture you can not verify such as the names of these individuals. Even though you have put a note in the condition section, you are still selling the picture as being that of certain people when you do not know if it actually is. That could be considered misleading and even falso advertising. If someone related to anyone of those named in the picture sees the picture being sold as such when it may not actually be them, they may not be okay with it especially since some of these individuals may have an estate that protects their image, reputation and use.

I see your point but then there are so many celebrity photos being sold, why would mine be different? I can add a question mark to the title like I have seen others do. I used the names as key words, otherwise how would anyone find my photo?
-
06/12/2018 at 5:00 pm #42317
Sigilini,
I would offer that buyers do not know that the names are key words. The names are being directly associated with the picture and then a disclaimer is used. Yes, other sellers sell pictures of people and not always with a positive result. I would also offer that selling a picture of someone when you know it is them is different then selling one with the assumption that it might be them.

Well, now that I see the back, maybe someone at the RIAA could help you identify the people in the photo? Maybe they have an archivist or historian on their staff??
The Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA) is the trade organization that supports and promotes the creative and financial vitality of the major music companies.

All good points!
The RIAA does not have a phone number on their website. BUT I called Jewel Box Platinum and the fellow there will try to help me sort this out. WHY I did not just do that originally is beyond me. It was too simple I guess. Let’s see if he can help me figure this out.

So that was a dead end but the company that did the framing said that Capitol Records sometimes gives them these photos from their archives, the framed photo goes back to Capitol Records and they might gift it out. It was suggested that I call Capitol Records but there is no way to reach anyone there. No phone number on the site and I was not able to find anything on the internet.

Post it to https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthisthing/.
You just need to get it in front of a music historian/fan.

My post was flagged and removed for trying to identify a person. Sheesh!

06/13/2018 at 2:08 pm #42400
hmmm i guess you can relist it with just Wrecking Crew Band in the title?
-
06/13/2018 at 2:31 pm #42404
Yes, so I relisted it under a different subreddit as suggested by the moderator. It was just that particular subreddit (whatisthisthing) that was not allowed to put people. It was really weird to be honest. But I followed what was suggested and got a reply from one fellow who said:
“Only Wrecking Crew I know of is a group of studio musicians in LA. All men except for Carol Kaye, and def not as photogenic as this group.”
I put a post on facebook as well to see if anyone of my friends might know and I shot out a photo to a musician friend of mine who did not know either except suggested that one of the ladies might be Nancy Wilson, which if you look her up, it is a good possibility.

Here’s an older photo of the duo:

Thanks MyCottage, I don’t see it but then again, these folks are before my time and I was not born here….so my opinion doesn’t count for much here.

I haven’t tried enlarging the photo, and I could be completely wrong. Just thought it was a possibility. I AM old enough to remember some of this, but my eyes are also old enough to not see detail without enlargement LOL

The lady on the left looks more like Nancy Wilson to me. I don’t think she’s Ronnie Spector; Ronnie and the Ronettes were super-stylish for their time. The lady on the left is super cute, but she’s not dressed the way Ronnie Spector would have dressed back then. The only picture I’ve seen of Ronnie Spector with short hair is from her senior year of high school. After that, her hair was all beehives and piled high on her head!
So, maybe Nancy Wilson? Or else a bunch of studio musicians who were hoping to make it big one day and having a great time. 🙂

Liz, I noticed that too. And I looked the smile and it does seem more like Nancy Wilson than Ronnie — but it is looking more and more like this might be random folks. The only thing that holds me back on a definite opinion is that the framing company said that they photo came from Capitol Records. Nothing more from the reddit crowd but I have another person looking at this so waiting for an answer.

I wish there were more casual photos of Nancy Wilson online. People can look so different when they are dressed formally, made up, etc.
Is there a Nancy Wilson fan club on facebook? Maybe you could post the picture there and see anyone can positively id her.

So I think we are finally at the end of the road on this: these are probably random folks.
A friend of mine sent the photo to another friend and she says this: “I sent the pic to a guy named Billy Vera. He’s a musician and music historian – he lived it. He thinks it’s probably studio singers but no one in particular he recognized. If you look Billy up on line you’ll see he’s got quite his own history from the early 60s so he is a reliable source on this.”
I think I can safely put this to rest and move on. I do have the photo listed and will change the title to more accurately reflect the listing.
Thank you to all of you that put in your input and took the time to reply. I am very grateful and very happy to be a part of this amazing group of helpful people.
