eBay Open – Today was the welcome reception.
I met 4 fellow scavengers from Iowa and enjoyed their company over dinner at the conference.
I visited the vendor booths and I could not find Wonder Lister, which was disappointing. I am hoping they will be here tomorrow. I did get a demo of sixbit and the interface was a lot like I had expected. Inkfrog and auctiva were a couple other sponsors with listing software.
Rollo has a commercial grade shipping label printer that is compatible with all major platforms and shipping carriers. I don’t have the volume/need for it but perhaps I will look into it again next year.
eBay had a booth for the seller hub and actually reviewed some of my store info within the hub. We looked at the growth charts and she said they had been doing a lot of updating. Today I could see my price and the recommended price in spreadsheet form.
I was told the markdown manager and the sales event are two separate items and do not correspond with one another which is opposite of what I have expected. I hope to get better clarification on that in the workshops tomorrow.
BULQ was there and talked very poorly of their competitors, which was sort of tacky. The representative spent more time discussing competitors then their services.
Most of the sellers I met were full time or transitioning to full time which was quiet encouraging. I am looking forward to tomorrow. I hope to meet more scavengers š

Thank you!
I was editing a sale today in Markdown Manager and it said “changes coming” and had a link
http://www.ebay.com/sh/mkt/promotionmanager/news#markdownManager
It sounds like Markdown Manager will become a part of Promotions soon instead of a separate entity.
Love the update.
I’ve watched a couple of live updates on ebayopen’s facebook page that were interesting. One thing I learned was they are revamping the shipping supplies to go with the new marketing theme of bringing color to your life. New stickers, tape etc.

They are releasing two new tools in a couple months
1. eBay Image Search
2. Find it on eBayThey showed a demo where you would be able to go to a website such as Pop Sugar see an outfit you loved, Click the item such as a pair of Boots a model was wearing ā then go to the Find It on eBay option (smartphone app) ā which launches the results of similar items available on eBay for sale.
They showed examples where you may had found a pair of sandals you loved in a magazine, took a photo and do an eBay image search ā which would show similar items available on eBay for sale.
————————————————————–
Currently 10% of the buyers are already using the āFind deals and best selling products ā shop by featureā option. If a customer chooses best selling products by model ā and you do not have the model number in the item specifics your item will not show up in the results. They will however show up below that section in the āold/previous view of search resultsāExample to demonstrate: In eBay search Canon EOS camera (10,450+ results) At the top of the page there is a shop now option to āFind deals and bestselling products ā shop by featureā If the buyer shops by any of the āShop by featuresā and they are not in your item specifics ā your item will not show up in this area ā example āinterchangeable Lensesā You will however show up further down the page within the āAll listingsā area.
In the above example, the buyer scrolls through two sections before your item has the opportunity to show up if you had not filled in item specifics.
Product identifiers (item specifics) will play a large role in a lot of the new roll outs from eBay such as the Find it on eBay feature mentioned above and the Find deals and bestselling products ā shop by feature. It has been overly stressed in most of the workshops I attended today.
————————————————————–
Other listing tips:
Use most important keywords first in your descriptions
Photos: No flash, No props. Fill the entire frame, auto enhance, sharpen, Resolution at least 800 x 800 and use a white backdropTitle Description
⢠DONT- – Use acronyms (NWT, NIB, etc.)
⢠Donāt use punctuation marks or asterisks
⢠Donāt use CAPS
⢠Donāt use WOW or LOOK
————————————————————–
In manage your store ā the keywords are only being looked at by Apple. Google and BING does not look at them. It was suggested to not put a lot of effort into this since upcoming changes will replace the need for this.
————————————————————–
If youāre handling time is set at 0 or 1 days you automatically qualify for the guaranteed delivery program. If you sign up for it by August 12th you will receive 20% Off FVF the month of august. If the carrier does not deliver by the delivery date eBay refunds delivery to the buyer.
You can pick and choose which items you wish to apply the guarantee on – it does not have to be straight across the board on all items. -

Did they say anything about how many keywords are searched? I’ve read that it’s the first 4 words in a title.
Also, on photo resolution, I read just recently that large resolution photos load very slowly, so it’s best to keep them down to the maximums of 1600×1600 for your gallery photo and 1200×1200 for all the others.
Thanks MUCH for the info!

Got in late last night and flying out early this morning so more notes to follow later.
Amatino – They did not say how many keywords were searched, but they did say to put the most important keywords first (think of what a customer would ask when walking into the store was an example, so if they wanted a digital sony alarm clock – they are going to ask where is your alarm clocks? so that would be the most relevant keyword then brand then features in the description then build from there) and use all 80 characters if possible. However with the new changes they are rolling out for the mobile buyers – item specifics is going to be more of a driving factor to your items showing up in customer searches. I will be putting my efforts more into the item specifics then order of keywords in the title, from what I gathered at the conference this will be more relevant.
Nancy – We were told you could enroll in guaranteed delivery going to ebay.com/guaranteeddelivery I just went there and filled out the information for updates but there Is not yet an enroll button.
I will make is removing my restock fee on returns and offering a 60 day return opposed to 30 day. As part of the seller protection – you can decide to offer less than a full refund if return is not in the same condition as when you shipped it. Strangely it is % based (5% Increments) and not a fixed dollar amount.
Examples of how you could use/justify using:
I sold a phone which was returned but the customer did not return the accessories. Deduct value of the accessories.I sold a brand new in the box item – customer destroyed the packaging and now I can not resell the item as new.
Your items will also show higher in the listings. You can still pick and choose which items get the return but at the end of the day the buyer can still go through pay pal or their credit card and dispute the charges. I would rather take care of it inside eBay with this feature and recoup some of my loss than have the buyer use pp or their cc.
Assuming you as a buyer have a low return rate I am expecting this change is not going to make a negative impact on your business but potentially will attract many more customers.
