Hey everyone! Just reviewing the Ebay invoices for end of year. And I noticed (should really look at these more often!) that on the “pie” chart that my fees are between 16 – 21%. Is that a crazy %? What is everyone else paying. I have about 2500 listings, I upgraded to a Anchor store last month, because the premium store was only giving me 1000 free listings and I was ending up paying just about as much as I would for the anchor store so I switched up. I wish there was something in between! Such a money grab from ebay! I guess the percent would change according to your monthly sales, because that is what it is based on. “Just Ranting!”

Fees havent changed recently as far as I know. The last fee change was several years ago.
Not sure which pie chart you’re referring to, but I see this page:
https://www.ebay.com/sh/prf/sellingcostsOur selling fees are 22.4%.
This includes: Store subscription, Shipping labels, Final Value Fees, and Paypal fees.
If you removed the “Shipping labels”, we’d be paying about 16% in fees.Obviously we all want to pay less fees and make more profit, but we havent found a better deal in town. If you sell on Amazon, check out their fee breakdown for FBA. Other platforms have lower fees but much much less consistent sales.
I totally agree that eBay should have a level between Premium (1000 listings) and Anchor (10,000).

WOW! Thanks for directing me to that page – such interesting info! I will be exploring that “performance” section – when my time permits!
I agree there isn’t a better platform than ebay for us – just because in what we sell (vintage car parts) it is the “go to” place for our customers.
Seeing your numbers – I’m feeling in a “normal” range now. I know everyone has to pay – like you always say – “you have to know your numbers!” and be honest with that. I guess I just got “shocked” looking at all the invoices and totals at once.
Good exercise for 2019… Break down your numbers – get a reality check every week or month – don’t wait until the end of the year!
Thanks Jay!-

eBay, like Amazon, know they bring customers to sellers so they can charge the fees. There’s no alternative.
Even the smaller sites with less traffic end up raising their fees. I see no downward trend lowering fees anywhere. Etsy raised their fees last year: https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/allthemoms/2018/06/14/etsy-fee-increase-frustrates-shop-owners-who-may-look-new-platforms/701669002/
I think as long as fees are 20% or less, thats fair to have an international platform that brings customers and safely handles transactions. Imagine what you’d pay to run a brick and mortar shop + employees + local advertisements + credit card fees.

Just playing with the chart, my fees are 17.1% before getting a subscription, and 14.9% since.
I pay for shipping through PayPal, so my numbers above do not include those numbers.
I feel this is lower then I thought – for some reason I felt it was 20-25% based on how bad it use to be in the 90’s.
Also, remove PayPal (which is a payment processing service – you would pay for this anyways unless you accept cash/checks), then it is closer to 10-11%.
Not bad at all for everything you get.

Well, will be interesting when Ebay brings in the “new” payment service. I heard so far that it will be cheaper for sellers. I guess we will hear more about it in the upcoming months. I’m all for it, because when I online shop I like to have payment options. I think it will be good for ebay sellers. But I know change could be hard for some.

Choppsshop, did you mean the pie chart on the eBay invoices? Mine is usually 10-11% so 16%-21% does seem a little high. Maybe now that you switched to the larger store, it’ll drop a bit. Especially since you have so many more free listings. List, list, list!!

I find that the Review Your Selling Costs display on my Seller Hub is inaccurate, overstating the percentage of selling costs to sales. If I manually add up my total gross (including what I received for shipping) for the stated period and divide the stated total selling costs into it (which includes what I paid for shipping labels), I get a lower percentage than what eBay says.
