I have an anchor store and have 75,000 “free” listings until December 31, 2020. I was on the phone with support and they stated that these were permanent. Has anybody else heard this? I would love to downgrade to a premium if that was the case, if not the fine makes it not so worth the hassle.
This might just be a wait until January to see kind of deal…

It’s only in certain categories. If you list in those categories, you can downgrade: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/listings/listing-tips/free-listings?id=4163

Yes, it’s true. I think I’m still in shock that ebay is giving us these free listings. I’m cautiously optimistic that there isn’t a “catch” coming in the next few months. I have (had) both an anchor and a premium store. I just closed the premium store and paid a $100 early termination fee, which is better than paying $60 a month for the next 4-5 months. I used sixbit to move the 3,000 listing over to the remaining store.
I had just renewed my anchor store in June and the fine for reducing that to a premium store is just shy of $1000. Sometime over the next several months when the fine reduces to $500/$600, I’ll go ahead and take the hit to downgrade my store. I’ll probably wait until I can get my new $150 shipping coupon and then cancel. But, my ultimate goal is to have 75,000 listings, so I will need an anchor store at some point. I just don’t think I’ll get there within the next year.

This is a response to spinachetr. Call ebay and ask them to waive the early termination fee. I just did this for my premium store and saved a bunch of money. I didn’t even know this was an option, apparently with Covid you can waive this fee.
Hope I can save some people money.

I am 100% collectibles, so I should be fine.
Speaking of fine, my fine is also $1000. I am nervous. My email says:
We are pleased to offer all sellers with a current eBay Anchor store subscription an additional 75,000 zero insertion fee listings per month on qualifying items until the end of the year*.
I don’t want to pay this fine and then have to go back to an anchor come Jan 1, 2021. Does anyone have anything in writing saying it is permanent? I wonder if I should wait until Jan…
@spinachetr I would love to get to 75,000 also, my goal for now is 10,000, but I am still a little shy of 5,000. I have watched your videos and listened to your interview with Jay several times. You are an inspiration to me. Thanks. -

I have a Basic store and a second selling account with no store, and did not get that email. Perhaps it was just for Anchors only. It sounds like eBay may be re-acting to the fact that a lot of stores are being downgraded right now. And trying to slow that flow.
Keep in mind that there is nothing really ‘permanent’ on eBay. They can pretty much reconsider all the free listings at any time. Not to mention changing other things such as store subscription prices and details.
Only a handful of my items are collectibles and my listing count grew while eBay was giving all the free pandemic listings. I have about 600 listings right now, and growing. So my problem differs. I may have to upgrade my store to Premium or perhaps upgrade my second selling account to have a store. (It would be less expensive to have 2 Basic stores.)

I have about 2000 listings, 95% collectibles, and was contemplating downgrading from premium to basic until I went to make the change and saw that eBay does not include Selling Manager Pro with a basic store. Instead, SMP is an extra charge of $15.99 a month, bringing the cost of a basic store to $37.95 with the yearly subscription. Still a net savings of $240 a year, but the shipping supplies coupon is another factor since I use a few hundred of the small padded mailers every quarter. I like them and would probably buy them even without the coupon.
My yearly subscription is up next month and I doubt I’ll switch, though the decision would be much easier if I had an anchor store and was thinking of downgrading to premium since there is such a huge price difference.

I have two stores and anchor and a premium. I am with you. I have no urge to downgrade the premium store. I think the price is reasonable on that. The anchor store I find is way too high. It is a store with a lot of listings, but of low value items. My premium store actually brings in much more money ever month. The anchor store, after all the little bites taken out by stock and paypal is barely worth it.
