Hi all,
Recently I am getting defects for tracking “not uploaded at all” in my seller metrics for cheap items which I ship with regular post without tracking. I am shipping from the Netherlands.
I have shipped these type of items without problems in the past without tracking. I mark the items as shipped but do not enter tracking number and carrier. I googled and as far as I can tell I am not doing anything wrong.
Does anybody have any clue why this is happening? Has something changed with the seller update or such?
Best regards,
Alex

It’s always been the case in the US that the seller is penalized if they don’t add tracking. Maybe the Netherlands is just now catching up?

UK seller. Of the last 20 items sold, 8 were posted without tracking. No defects. A ninth was posted via GSP; a label was printed but wasn’t used– couldn’t find the item (a small purse) until after the label expired, so I posted it without tracking to the GSP centre. Just checked the tracking, and for some unknown reason it worked (I knew that the item had been delivered, but the label wasn’t attached to the parcel, and thus had not been scanned at posting).
One thing (maybe only applicable to the UK). Post label when issued is valid to the end of the next working day. I just now (Monday 30th) bought a label for an item purchased Sunday evening- the label is valid for use up till midnight Tuesday. If, say, I sold an item Monday afternoon and I bought the label at “zero dark thirty” it would be valid until Thursday midnight, but the eBay metric would show that I dispatched the item within 24 hours. Whether the tracking system feeds back I don’t know- I haven’t pushed it that far but I have made use of the leeway to post later.

Thank you for your replies.
But Jay a lot of US sellers sell small cheap items suchs a stamps. How do people who specialize in coins, stamps, etc. keep there metrics in good condition?

Good question. Maybe I am confused. US sellers who sell postcards and dont use tracking can never e Top Rated. They can sell on eBay, but get none of the benefits of being a “good seller” if I understand correctly. Maybe someone else can clarify.
Question:
–are you selling on eBay.com?
–Are you shipping through
–Global Shipping Program?
–If no tracking, I assume you just take the risk if the buyer says they didnt receive the item?
–Are you getting actual defects, meaning eBay will kick you off the site if you get too many of them?

Just checked my solds, and the mix of “dispatched” and “delivered” seems random, i.e. some items that I know were delivered aren’t marked as such. My late delivery rate hasn’t changed since a book was delivered to the wrong address by a post person- buyer complained that he hadn’t received the book, but he was eventually able to retrieve it. Made me a bit cynical about these metrics.

Hi Jay,
My apologies for the delayed response. I got temporarily blocked from the forum two for some reason and I forgot to get back to you earlier.
I can imagine you can not become a top rated seller but I don’t know how you can run a store when you get defects very time you ship something without tracking.
Here are my answers to your questions:
–are you selling on eBay.com? Yes I am
–Are you shipping through
–Global Shipping Program? No I don’t use it since I am not US based
–If no tracking, I assume you just take the risk if the buyer says they didnt receive the item? The shipping and item costs are so low I indeed take the risk.
–Are you getting actual defects, meaning eBay will kick you off the site if you get too many of them? Yes I am getting defects. I have now completely stopped shipping items without tracking. I contacted ebay multiple times but for these defects I can not get them to remove them. I have the handicap being based in the Netherlands and they don’t give telephone support and everything goes through e-mail.Best regards,
Alex-

Hello Alex
I am a seller from Slovakia and I am facing similar when selling on US site.
I am used to usually ship items without tracking number because its worth the risk.
Itis doing just fine on UK site, but when I started selling on US site too I noticed that I am receiving this defect too, even ehn the buyer selects “standard shipping” not “Not tracked shipping”When I contacted customer support on eBay they told me that to be safe I should ship the packages with tracking number anyway even if the seller pay just for standard shipping.
That people are expecting to have a tracking number and eBay cant protect me if I will have no proof of delivery.
They didnt heard me when I explained to them that I am OK with the risk a they cant remove me this defects.
Which I found very offensive I couldn’t understand how they can for the sellers to do this.So when seeing you post I was curious if you found a way how to deal with it.
If there is a way to send a packgae without tracking number and not receiving defect for it.
There should be some way, otherwise how would sellers from China operate.
Let me know please if you have some new info.
Martin
