I had a positive feedback on an item, that it was cute and arrived safely, but did’t “work great”. I had mentioned in my listing that it “works great!”, it was a music box and, well, it worked great. Not sure how else to word that, besides using proper grammar, but I was basically just trying to be quick. Maybe they were just making fun of my bad grammar? LOL
Anyhoo…what do you do in those situations? You got the + feedback, but you know the customer wasn’t truly happy. I just gave them a refund. It gnawed at me. Too bad that I cannot respond to their feedback comment with the fact that I did give them a refund.

Well, the buyer just sent me a really nice message and was super happy that I refunded them. That was worth it. Nice messages make my day. 🙂

I recently had a somewhat similar experience. I wasn’t going to post about it, but since you opened a thread on the very topic, how could I resist? 😉
I sold a piece of vintage pottery. The listing contained precise measurements and the general term “vintage” (I thought the piece was probably from the 1970s, but I had no way to know for sure.) Upon receipt of the item, the buyer sent me a nasty message that he wouldn’t have bought the piece if he’d know it was “so dinky” (again, measurements were in the listing.) Not wanting to deal with this person any more, I sent him a nice note saying I was sorry he was unhappy and issued a full refund.
Fast forward a month or so. He leaves “positive” feedback, but comments that “the piece is not more than 80 years old as the seller acclaimed [sic]. It is a reproduction, and not a good one.” So, this was super-aggravating. I tried very hard to maintain a Jay-like emotional distance from the situation. But not only had he left ‘negative positive feedback,’ he’d totally misrepresented what happened *and* called me a liar. After ranting around the house for a while, I responded that I hadn’t made any representations about the age of the item. I contacted eBay to try and get it removed, but as far as I know, it’s still there. I’m not sure if I’ve left feedback for him, yet. I’ve drafted some a few thousand times. 🙂
I think you can respond to her feedback comment, can’t you? But maybe you shouldn’t. Maybe the comment can be removed.

If the comment is positive, why just not leave it there? Most people will look at the number next to the star & the percent of positive feedback. Very few will actually click in to the read the feedback.
Personally, if that happened to me, I’d just block the person so that they can’t buy from me again and move on. Why give them a refund? They can’t change it to negative. Once they leave feedback (positive or negative), they can’t change it unless you ask and set it up for them.

I would offer that it depends how much time and energy you want to put into this and as to what your other feedback is like.
I have seen other sellers make a comment below the buyer’s comments. If you choose to follow-up (and the comments can not be removed) -what comes to mind is: I am sorry you were not happy with what was described in the listing or the resolve identified.
Another option may be to block the buyer and move on and let the rest of your feedback stand for itself.
I would also like to offer that this may just be an opportunity to see if there is anything to be learned from this experience. Sometimes the situations that get under our skin can be our greatest teachers.
It would be interesting to know how more experienced sellers might approach this situation.

this is the link to reply to any feedback that people have left you. ebay does not make that page obvious, but it exists (i bookmarked it).

I agree with Sharyn. If the buyer leaves positive feedback and isn’t opening a case for a return/refund, then you’re good. Sounds like a grumpy buyer.
These are situations where we just act like robots. As long as a case isnt opened, eBay isnt requiring us to take any action.

Ryanne, thanks for that link! I just assumed you could not leave feedback for a positive review.

I got this today. Seems to be my month of customer issues. Comment was “Way smaller than expected!” but the exact measurements of the art work were in the item specifics. It really bothers me to ignore someone being unhappy but I feel like this comment suggests I did something wrong. I’m going to grit my teeth I think and take Jay’s advice.

The buyer could ask for a return. But if they want to keep it, then it’s not really our concern if they grumble.
In this case, the buyer probably realized that they simply didnt pay attention to the measurements which you clearly listed. Their grumpiness if aimed at themselves.
