I have been listening to the Scavenger Life podcasts since their relative early beginnings, since before or just around the time they purchased the farmhouse… it’s just so cool what they’ve done! It was early/mid 2013 and I was just getting started selling on eBay when I discovered them. I’ve really learned a lot from J & R. And I am so happy for their success!
Through their influence, I am looking to turn a rental that my Dad owns into a corporate and or vacation rental (if HOA does not pose a problem) sometime in the next year, although, I have not gotten the go ahead from Dad, yet, so fingers crossed. This was an opportunity I had pondered with my brother years ago for our parents, but we dismissed, until J & R revived my interest and a new conviction to at least give it a whirl.
In addition to this rental influence, I have sold several patches, thanks to J & R. Never woulda tried those otherwise. I am now always in patch radar mode. I don’t why, but I get such a kick out of selling these things… and I always feel like I have to announce it to J & R when one sells…
I JUST SOLD A CHUCKIE FROM THE RUGRATS PATCH TODAY! WOOT! THANKS GUYS!
ME AS A RESELLER
Anyways, I am a lone reseller. I do occasionally make videos about my journey and offer sales reports and other tips on YT… I am “OfftoShambala” on You Tube. Through that channel, I have found that people have been most interested in my Tax/Accounting videos… I am hoping to begin zeroing in on creating more accounting and tax tips/content for resellers. I am pretty knowledgeable about such things and have taken an accounting course and plan to obtain a certificate in tax prep and gain some more skills in the accounting department. I just got my approval for student aid and will be back at the good ol’ community college in the Fall of 2017… once I get the certificate for tax prep, then it’s back to my university to finally finish my degree in business management. I’m down to about 7 core classes. And after that, will I go for a masters? I dunno. I don’t really want to go work for anyone and have pretty much decided that reselling is my chosen craft. The tax prep certificate is my side line and the degree… well, I already owe on that, and I feel like I’m so close, I should at least finish it, otherwise, I’m paying for nothing… even though it is going to add a good 10,000 to 12,000 to my student loan bill. Am I crazy? I figure the education will be valuable, but it does seem unnecessarily expensive. But, sometimes you just choose a path and stick with it and make it happen. And that’s what I am doing here.By the end of March 2017, I will be coming up on my one year anniversary of having been a full time reseller. I had been doing about 500-800 per month (in gross sales, not including revenues for shipping) and almost entirely on eBay, prior to going full time. Within only a few months (or since May of 2016) of having gone full time, I began to average around just over 2000 per month and have sort of plateaued there… finally in October, I really pushed myself and was able to get to about 2800…but, Nov and Dec, not so good… I’m just under my 2000 average, sadly… next year I will be more prepared, I sold a lot of my Christmas decor items and plan to stock more of those for next year so my sales don’t drop so much, or at all, during the holidays.
RESELLER GOAL FOR 2017
I’ve got some clear stepping stone goals worked out for how I will double my income as an eBay reseller for the year of 2017. Without going into details, my overall goal is to basically work hard, by listing a lot, and smart, by sourcing more valuable things and to begin averaging $4000 per month by that 1 year marker (the end of March 2017). If I plateau at $4000 a month for the rest of 2017, I will be fine with that. -

Hi! Just subbed to your youtube! Always looking for more info so thanks for sharing!
J&R have been 95% the reason I’m in my 2nd year now. Their info and especially keep at it attitude has saved me from giving up. I mean, really WWJ&R Do? is my motto.
Glad you’re here! -

adnauseam, thanks for subbing to my channel on YT, much appreciation for that!
LOL WWJ&R Do… that’s funny, and I imagine probably true for a lot of SL fans, albeit subconsciously… I find myself saying “Somebody will want this!” quite often and think of J&R when I do.
Congrats on your 2 years! Are you side gigging on eBay/reselling or are you a full timer? Do you have any content I can follow whether it’s on YT or somewhere else? Let me know & I will follow you back for sure or if you start, I will start following you when you do.

Thanks! I don’t have any youtube just instagram and facebook which is shopvintagedelirium and vintagedelirium, respectively.
I’m a full-timer and have been for this 2 years. I used to piddle around antique markets but that was really just to socialize, I think. I never made any money after booth rentals lol.
I kind of HAD to start selling stuff because I’m a hunter/gatherer at heart but not really a collector. I used to work in wholesale sales for food to restaurants and would thrift on my lunch break. The barn was getting way too full and there was no sign of me stopping the hunt so here I am. Have a bit over 1000 in etsy and ebay combined and trying to double that this year (at least).
Tried to get my husband to list with me (he’s an engineer and has some lab equipment on his ebay store) but he’s just not into it which is fine but it would be great to have some help! It’s a bit annoying when he makes one sale in 6 months and it’s like, a thousand dollars tho hah. But then he has to spend, like, 4 hours palletizing it and waiting for a truck to pick it up so it’s probably a wash. He’ll say, “Sold a machine for 1200” and I’ll be like, “That’s what I made working all month blah.” 🙂 I would like that to happen MORE often though!
Know anyone that needs an enormous vacuum chamber, you let me know. We’ll give them the deal of the century 🙂

If it’s over 36″, forget it! LOL… the things men do. But, good for him. Yep, I really need to zero in on higher ROI items too, just as long as they don’t require a pallet.
I have been meaning to get something going on Instagram and doing more on FB, so I will definitely go look for you in those forums… I am Crystal Allegra on FB BTW.
Lovely to meet you… and thanks Ryanne!
