For a long while now, I’ve thought that Jay & Ryanne as well as other experienced sellers offered combined shipping. This is probably based on old podcasts I listened to a while back where combined shipping was discussed, the whole thing about requesting an invoice, etc. I never paid very close attention, b/c I was new and had other more pressing things to learn about. But now I’ve been asked to provide combined shipping on an order, and as a result I know a lot more about it, I’m wondering, do Jay & Ryanne and others no longer offer combined shipping b/c it requires a seller to NOT have “require immediate payment” selected?
In my situation, I turned off “require immediate payment” only for the items the customer was interested in, and then they were able to “request invoice with total amount due”. And then they paid promptly after I sent the invoice. I suppose that’s what I can do in the future. The OCD part of me is dead set against doing partial shipping refunds via paypal.

Sometimes I’ll send an offer, reflecting the savings from combined shipping and handle it that way.
I also believe if you send an offer and the customer buys it that way, immediate payment automatically gets turned off. I don’t have immediate payment turned on, so I don’t know for sure.
Regardless of your method, it’s just a matter of doing a work around to the Ebay system, which doesn’t handle combined shipping well.

Can you send one offer that covers multiple items?

Nope. one item. one offer.

Interesting OCD. It would bother us more to turn off “immediate payment required” because then you’re chasing down people who buy things. A sale isnt really a sale until the buyer pays.
–It would be against our OCD to have the buyer say they want several items, turn off “pay immediately”, then they buy, then figure out shipping, then send them an invoice, and then hope they pay.
–We tell buyers to purchase what they want, and then we’ll refund any shipping cost after we combine shipping. Sometimes people buy three different things that cant be combined: a stack of dinner plates and a metal woodworking tool.
So pay first, then we’ll do the work to make the shipping as efficient as possible.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So I guess we each see the beauty of our own OCD variation.
I don’t chase people down. Ebay’s unpaid item assistant does that for me. I don’t think about it at all. So the item is not for sale for a few days, no big deal. (I also give zero thought and effort to neutral feedback).
But yeah, having to turn off “require immediate payment” is just stupid. I think we can agree that the combined shipping feature on ebay does not work well. But ebay has their engineers working on more important things like free returns, so they are too busy to fix it. lol

Yep. it could be much better. Night even even encourage buyers to buy multiple items.

The way you should have the buyer do this with Immediate Payment is to have the buyer move the items that they want to purchase into their Cart. Then they can send a message to Request Total from Seller. You can send the combined invoice at that point.
We have had this once or twice since putting Immediate Payment on our listings (since it is a requirement for Guaranteed Delivery).

T-Satt,
That’s exactly what I first told them to do. But when they do that (and I also tried it myself), the “request total from seller” button is de-activated.How is it that you’re able to get this to work?

sonia: Wow. That I haven’t seen before.
I would contact eBay directly. I would also send this to Griff (griff@ebay.com). He has talked about this issue before that people should be using the cart for these situations.
So either a glitch or something has changed.
Griff is pretty good about responding. Usually in 24 hours during the work week.
