Had a sale last night with a note from the buyer. She is out of town and would like me to ship her package after Feb. 25. I would like to accommodate her request. From what I read on the ebay forums, it seems that I will just have to take the hit to my “Tracking uploaded on time and validated” rate, which is currently 98.46% (due to one item I shipped recently with a postage stamp). I am not a TRS yet, but according to ebay I qualify to become one at the next evaluation. How have other people handled requests for delayed shipping from buyers?

If she messaged you via ebay, you now have proof the delay was at buyer’s request. Just call ebay and ask them to remove the defect once it appears. It should be no problem.

Agree with Stuff My Mom Threw Away. We get similar requests every so often. No big deal. As long as you ship on time for most items a late shipping defect every now and again won’t hurt. The sale is the most important thing.
Maybe eBay will remove it since the buyer requested the delay. I’d love to know if that works.

I recently had the same situation – two times. I just shipped late and didn’t worry about the consequences to my late shipment rate, since almost all of my shipments normally ship on time.
Just now I went and checked the detailed report of my seller ratings, and it turns out that only one of the delayed shipping transactions was being counted by eBay. The one that wasn’t counted was a GSP sale, which makes me wonder if somehow GSP sales are tracked differently by eBay…

Thanks for the advice. I am just going to wait and send it later. I probably won’t bother to call ebay unless my on time percentage is in danger of going below 90%.

This question/issue came up again in podcast #303, so I will copy this over there also in the event that it may be helpful to some.
I just notify that buyer that I will be shipping the item signature requested (I use USPS for 95% of my shipping) and tell that their item will be held by the post office for them to sign for on their return. For the $2.35 or so, it is well worth it to me in order to avoid a ding or fritter away time with more Ebay phone calls. This way the tracking shows its immediately shipped and its up to the buyer to notify their post office if they will be away for an extended period of time. So far I’ve never had a package returned under these circumstances.-

I’ve been told this works, but have never tried it. Tell your buyer that you are going to mark the sale “Unpaid” in My EBay, but they shouldn’t worry…you’ll change it back to “paid” when its time to send it, and then wait to send it until the time requested.

I’m not sure how often this happens to others, but we rarely have the case where someone pays and the asks us to hold. When they did, we complied with their request. As long as we are doing our job on the other 99% of our shipments, one “late shipment” should not be an issue. EBay doesn’t ask us to be 100%, but 95%, so customer service takes priority. I would rather they have a great experience and shop again, than worry about one “late shipment”.

I actually called in for the podcast on this issue today. First time caller – enjoy my hillbilly redneck twang.
– If buyer messages you before purchase, change handling time to accommodate.
– If buyer makes offer and then asks, message them back that you will decline the offer so you can revise the listing to change handling time and then they can resubmit offer.
– If buyer purchases and then asks for delayed shipping, initiate a buyer requested cancellation and relist with updated handling time. Buyer repurchases. With this issue I have talked with ebay in the past and they “say” they will revise it on a case by case basis but it is hit & miss in practice. As for me, I don’t sweat it. I am late ALL THE TIME and I still can maintain top rated seller. I have 1-2 items a week that I don’t get to the post office within my handling time.
