Is this allowed on eBay? A buyer purchased from me and in their comments they explicitly mention that it is to fulfill one of their order Amazon orders. They mention their buyer on their Amazon account reported a problem with the item. They now want refund from me. I remember hearing that buyer would lose any type of protection when they dropshipped, is this true? Do any of you know where I can find a link to eBay’s policy on this? I have searched quite a bit but can’t find it. Thank you

To anyone asking for a refund, say: “Return the item for a refund.”
Unless they can 100% prove there’s damage, that line is my go-to.
You will need to take the return most likely. They’ll cite INAD and force it. Once you get the item back, call eBay and explain. Be warned: They probably won’t care. Last resort, just issue a partial refund.
I went through this years ago. The process wasn’t pleasant and a huge waste of time, roughly 4 hours over a few days trying to get someone at eBay who understood what was happening to get my money back from the buyer. At the time I didn’t do free returns and the cost to get the item back was too much to just brush off. I only got the money back because the Amazon buyer had included a bunch of email transcripts of the Amazon return process/messages with the dropshipper. In hindsight I think the eBay rep was just fed up with the situation and just refunded the money to make me go away.

Scroll down to Not Covered section, 4th bullet down the the 4th bullet under that states:
- The item was sent to another address after the original delivery, or buyer uses a freight forwarder (exceptions which are still eligible for coverage include: eBay shipping programs such as the Global Shipping Program and eBay international standard delivery, and eBay authentication programs)
So if you sent the item to your buyer and then your buyer sent that item to his/her buyer then your buyer is not covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
However if you sent the item directly to your buyer’s buyer then it seems like he is covered as long as the item gets back to you.

If it were me I would handle this like any other return request and refund when the return is received or deal with a problem if the item is damaged, used, NAD, etc. I don’t know of any specific eBay rules on this, I’m leaning towards there isn’t. What is the reason for the return?

Agree with the above. I know eBay has changed their system to try to cut out drop shippers (like faster shipping times and penalties for being out of stock). But Im not sure if its “illegal” to do what this guy did.
I’d call eBay and have them read the messages from the buyer. They can tell you if you need to take the return if they admitted they resold it to someone else. Essentially thats what they did. They bought from you on eBay. Then they resold the same item to someone on amazon.
I also wonder if you said “send it back”, if you’d actually get the item. If he cant send the the back, then no refund.

I sell on Amazon. Their return process is very simple, if the buyer requests a return, regardless of the reason, if it is within the 30-day return window (now extended holiday returns until Jan 31st) they get a prepaid return label to print. Sellers cannot refuse a return, but they can give a partial refund under specific situations after the item is returned. But, the return label is going to be to return the item to the seller’s official return address in their Amazon seller profile, no choices. The drop shipper will have to ship it back to you for a refund after they receive it.
Keep it simple and clear, tell your buyer to return for a refund. then don’t respond to any additional messages as nothing else matters. Don’t accept a return except through the eBay return flow and time limits. If they file a NAD you can deal with that then, and at that point, the details might matter if you call eBay. It’s possible you might not hear anything more from the other seller.

Always weird when people over-share about why they need something. I can’t imagine a re-seller who doesn’t keep the fact they are reselling to themselves, given what we’ve talked about on here seeing the apparent hostility towards us 🙂
