So I was going through my “dregs” of inventory still left on amazon. It is all stuff that if I had a do-over I would have never bought. Anyways, I was just going through and lowering the price to a point where I had the lowest price. Some books I was hitting $5.99 and in that range.
As I was almost done I thought to myself that I should check the fees since they had went up at some point. I picked a random small paperback book which should have been the cheapest fee. I had it priced at around $5.80. The Amazon FBA fee was $7.81!!!!
Needless to say I have changed my mind. I’m just going to go ahead and pull everything off amazon. I only have 57 items left. I’m officially done. It was swell while it lasted amazon. I’m just glad they killed the market while I still was in my experiementation phase with a small inventory. I pity those individuals with 1000’s in inventory. Adios!

Aaaaaand I’m out. I opted into the liquidate option for all the junk. I had about 20 items shipped back to me I either wanted for myself or will sell on ebay.

I am in the same boat. I have numerous items that I am only making nickels and dimes on, especially after the fee increases a few months back. Video games and books are now a no go unless I find one I can get at least 20 dollars on, which is rare. I gave up on the volume / make just a dollar game. Prices are too competitive and there are too many sellers like Jenson books or Amazon itself who will swoop in and drop prices to levels I just can’t compete with.
I am ungated in shoes but there is only a few brands I can sell. I have made some good money with Marshalls shoes like Joe Abboud, getting them on sell for 20 bucks and selling them for 100 fba. I do find some bigger ticket items at Goodwill to send in, usually electronics or cooking / baking style items. It is a good supplemental income for me, but no where near eBay.

What is your return rate on shoes? I’ve looked into clearance shoes at Marshalls but the ROI just wasn’t good enough. The bulk of my ebay store is shoes. My typical COGS is about $5 but my average shoe sales price of $35. My return rate is pretty much zero. I think I’ve had maybe 5 pair returned and I’ve resold all of them fairly quickly and for a higher price.
I don’t think I could stomach spending $20-30 per pair of shoes to sell on FBA the way amazon does NOT have my back.

FBA is still worth it for me. Im going to stick it out until its not worth it anymore. Since the fee increases and the LTSF I have just made adjustment to the types of stuff I send in. I pretty much just send in books and I just send in books with a good rank and that are at least $15-$20. I also reprice more often to keep my pricing competitive so I can sell my items in less than a year.
The thing I have been struggling with lately is shipping. Amazon used to have me send all my shipments to the warehouse really close to me but, lately I have had to ship to multiple locations that are located across the country. This has really increased my shipping costs. But all in all it is still worth it for me to do FBA for now. Although Im not sure if I can handle another fee increase or much more regulations. Forgot to mention the whole sales tax nexis in other states thing. If they start cracking down on that, I would leave FBA at that point. Im hoping I can squeeze another 4th quarter out of Amazon. Good luck to those hanging in there with FBA.
