I know I have gone about this wrong but between the buyer and ebay I think I’m getting screwed.
I sold some BSA vintage sashes 2 per auction had several different lots on auction.
I sent the wrong one. Okay my fault.
I told him to open a claim w ebay and then I could send him the postage to mail me back as well as send him the correct item.
In the ebay form he wrote that he never received any item even though the tracking shows up. instead of asking for a return of the wrong item.
Ebay helped me send him postage very weird round about way as I had to change his name for mine to do it and then change it back again on my profile. ebay sent him an email telling him to return the wrong item with postage.
I sent him the right one lot , ebay released the money (pretty much a wash with all the extra postage ) and he has gone awol since.
Not sure how to proceed as it doesn’t seem like he’s going to mail me back the original wrong item. We have a lengthy messaging between us clearly describing what happened.

Unfortunately you are SOL unless the buyer has some basic ethics at this point. I had a similar case during the great USPS Covid cluster when they had millions of undelivered packages at Christmastime. I gave a good faith refund to a customer and he made a good faith promise to return the item or repay me if it ever showed up. Item showed up and buyer ghosted me. Nothing I could do.
I’ve had other cases where I mixed up labels/packages. In that case I had good buyers that had good communications and basic ethics. I sent each of them a label and they each mailed the correct item to the other buyer. Easy Peasy.
In the future if this happens just do a return. They can re-purchase once you get the item back a close the return (they won’t re-purchase).

It’s against eBay policy to leave a positive comment for a buyer with negative comments, so even if it might feel good in the moment, don’t do it. And there’s no way to leave negative feedback for a buyer, we can only leave positive. I would suggest that you respond (on your feedback page) to any negative or neutral feedback left for you, but 1 negative or neutral isn’t going to affect anything beyond your pride.
I wouldn’t call this buyer (or any buyer) because it’s very unlikely to accomplish anything besides frustrating you even more. Take those feelings and use them as motivation to list more, scavenge more or organize your inventory.

I would let it go. It’s tempting to dig in and fight someone given you’re in the right, but consider the time and energy that you’ll spend doing it. Not worth it.
If the buyer is already operating in bad faith then there’s a good chance they’ll push it further. I pushed back against a scammer once and got a legal-sounding threat in response. I let it go, took the chargeback fee, and moved on with my life. There’s more money to made elsewhere.
