Has anyone else run into this bug? I’ve been getting warnings that many of my listings contain “Active Content” that is prohibited and can prevent my listings from showing up. I’m certainly not intentionally putting in any active content, but I think I’ve figured out where it comes from. I start all my drafts in the app, and the app seems to be adding a bunch of code into the description. Here’s my (painful) workaround:
Open the draft from my computer
Highlight and copy the description
Switch to HTML view
Delete everything from description
Switch back to regular view
Paste description from my clipboardWhat a pain! Why is the app adding all this code to my descriptions? Having to do this on every item is really killing the efficiency that I would like to gain by using the app for listing. Anybody got a better fix or workaround?

Huh, we also start listings on the phone. But we just add titles and photos, then we do the details and description on the computer.
Why not try not adding any description on the phone? Keep that part blank till you’re on your computer.

I would be interested to see the Active Content message. Would it be possible to provide a picture? I have been working on listings today and have not had a problem. When do you get the warning and where is it located? If it is at top, it might be warning you about other active listings (because you are signed in) and not the one you are working on. The message may go away when you click out of the listing. Another idea – try all three browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome)and see if you get the same message.

AdventureE,
The message comes in an e-mail and through eBay messages. It says:Hi <USERNAME>
We’re writing to let you know, that as of December 7, 2017, some of your listings are in violation of eBay policies or recent security updates and require update.
5 of your listings contain(s) active content such as JavaScript, form actions, etc. Going forward, in order to improve buyer experience, active content will not be rendered. As a result, listings with active content might not display correctly to buyers.

When I look at the HTML version of the description, there’s a mess of javascript involving username and password functions. It’s super weird. I tried to share, but the forum gave me an error when I tried to paste in a “code” tag though. I’m surprised to hear that it’s just me having this issue!
Jay, The reason I type descriptions on my phone is that I believe in the dream of snapping a few photos and typing a description right in the app, and listing things without ever going to my computer! Unfortunately, there always seems to be something that has to be fixed on computer. Even if I can figure out this active content problem, I still have to set my re-stocking fee from a browser. I tried enabling business policies once, and that was a mess!

Okay, I’ve done some more testing, and the code is still present even when I create a fresh listing on my computer. So I guess it’s not an app issue after all. eBay is including javascript by default in all my listings that triggers an active content warning. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

I would offer that you call ebay so as to save you time and allow you to move forward. It may be an internal message that ebay has triggered on your account and pops up on your listings because of other listings that have had or have active content.

I get this as well and I’ve never used active content or listed on my phone. Very aggravating. For a while I was clicking on their link to remove it but I noticed that it comes back. Grrrrr.
Also, the mobile friendly checker… I can’t figure out why my listings are always flagged. I’ve tried different font sizes but no luck. I’m just hoping that one day they will just fix all of this crap.

Pythonesk,
eBAY has not built automatic mobile friendly programming into the listing page that is why we need to click on the mobile friendly link. When I first started using the mobile friendly checker, I wasn’t scrolling down in the window to click save which caused the mobile friendly changes to be lost. I wonder if you might be experiencing the same difficulty.

@AdventureE – No, I know about the mobile friendly save button at the bottom because it fooled me too for a while. The active content thing is so crazy because I’ve never used active content and the warning showed up only recently. I’d love to have both of these annoyances disappear.
