ebay recently held a virtual conference (ebay Connect 2021) for the sellers who use APIs to access ebay. The videos are available on ebay’s You Tube channel. Just a few quick points that were of interest to me (a non-API user):
Video: ebay has been testing short videos uploaded directly to ebay for listings (rather than the current method, of uploading to somewhere like YouTube and then linking to the You Tube video). So far, only some API users have been testing this, and so far the videos have been limited to display on Mobile. Videos should be coming to PC soon, but its not clear whether they will be limited to API users initially while ebay continues to test them. Looks like they will have a maximum time of one minute. Eventually, video use will probably be expanded to all users and store homepages might get one as well.
For now, I’ll continue to use the YouTube method. One question I have: once ebay rolls this out to everyone, will ebay prohibit the use of video links?
Coded Coupons: ebay will be adding the ability to send coupons with Seller Initiated Offers. If the buyer actually declines, he won’t get the coupon. But if he accepts (or does nothing, I’m not sure), he’ll get the coupon. And of course, it will be entirely optional. We’ll also be getting the ability to send coupons to past buyers, and we’ll get notices when a buyer is a returning buyer. I like all of these. ebay noted that Coded Coupons have seen a lot of use (and brought a lot of sales) since they started….a very good response, comparable to Seller Initiated Offers.
Terapeak: Sellers have been asking for Terapeak to be made part of the Mobile App, and it looks like that is rolling out or has rolled out. HOWEVER, it does not look like it will a stand alone app within the app. Instead, the data will be found in the listing flow. Probably great if you use your phone to list, but might take some fiddling to make it really useful for those trying to look up values while thrifting, etc.
Promoted Listings: As expected, ebay is rolling out a cost per click model of PL. Regular PL is now known as Standard (which is why you see something like “Standard Ad Fee” in your Managed Payments flow, rather than “Promoted Listing fee” ). Standard isn’t going away. The new Cost Per Click model is really aimed more towards sellers of new, multi-quantity listings, but I suppose anyone will be able to use it. Because I’m a one -off seller, I doubt I’ll use it. If you want details, I’ll answer questions if anyone is interested. One thing: it looks like initially one of the benefits is, if you pay enough, you’ll get the top spot in Search. They will be known as “Advanced” ads. And, no details, but also coming: PLs for auctions. These will be known as Express Ads, but they had no details so far.
Watched the MP video….not much of interest for the non-API seller. A couple things: In July, all new sellers coming onto ebay will be put into MPs. (I assumed this was already happening, but maybe not….or maybe it was happening on this site, but not on all ebay sites). Later in the year, any listings remaining from sellers who have not signed up will be ended by ebay. Those listings will go into “ended” in Seller Hub, where they will be saved for 90 days. So, if a departed seller returns to “reactivate”—-in other words, decides to finally go ahead and sign up for Managed Payments, the ended listings will be available to relist if their 90 days hasn’t yet expired. So, for sellers who are departing because of MP, but who might change their mind, probably best to return within that 90 day period, or best to ensure that your listings have ben preserved elsewhere (as in a third party listing tool such as Six Bit).
No definite timelines, but I’d guess ebay is on track to get everybody onboarded by the end of the year, if not earlier. Expect to see new benefits once that happens, if not before. No specifics given.

Great info, thanks!
“We’ll also be getting the ability to send coupons to past buyers, and we’ll get notices when a buyer is a returning buyer.”
Jay and Ryanne have been publicly wishing for a way to identify past buyers within the eBay account for years – nice to see eBay taking some action in that direction.
