It was a flop when it debuted in theaters, but is now seen as the perfect portrait of the demeaning life inside the modern office: https://www.theringer.com/movies/2019/2/19/18228673/office-space-oral-history
You can watch it weirdly here for free: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEOKJo9lumM

Doesn’t seem like its been 20 years! That’s one of my (and my family’s) favorite movies. I guess I know what we’ll be doing tonight. It’s been a while since we watched it. We even have a Jump to Conclusions mat and some TPS reports around here somewhere.

In a similar vein, ive recently been watching The Office for the first time through. Perfect timing as I transition out of corporate life.
Way too many scenarios in it and Office Space are completely relatable.
Also, how is Office Space 20? Am I getting old!?

I’ve never watched The Office, but I’ve been to Slough. Once.

That movie has been my life the last 10 years…lots of ownership changes, nobody knows what is going on, lots of people let go, hired, let go, hired, let go…and now I sit in dead manufacturing facility with about a dozen others people scattered amongst a huge building that once employed over 600 people getting paid to do nothing but make sure that a door opens at 9am and is locked at 5pm M-F.
My main task is to count dead inventory once a week…which doesn’t move at all so my count from months ago is still the same this week.
My favorite thing is the new corporate overlords that own us like to send out emails with a signature that includes:
#dreamjob
LOL…

I watched this the first time….while sitting IN an office space!
I was a co-op student at the Corps of Engineers. It was Christmas break from school and literally everyone on our floor was out on vacation Christmas week except for me and the other Co-op. Our supervisor literally told us we could bring in movies since we had no work to do that day.
So we watched Office Space while sitting in one of our cubicles. Lol!
That day has always stuck with me because it was also the first time I got Kidney stones. The pain was just starting while watching that movie. I was in the hospital later that night.

And I just realized I literally used the word “literally” in that post literally way too many times. Literally!
I think my kids are rubbing off on me. That is their favorite word.

Love that movie! So relevant, and so quotable…
“I noticed that you have been missing a lot of work lately.”
“Well…I wouldn’t say that I’d been missing it.”

If you love Office Space, then Idiocracy is required viewing as well.

It’s a scary classic. The President in 2502 is a wrestling star who shouts and insults everyone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMKFIHRpe7I
