In 2018, I purchased a large, heavy kitchen appliance used to grind Indian food for $1. The problem was that it had a plug for India as well. I couldn’t figure out how I was going to sell it. I couldn’t test it without buying two adapters, one for the voltage difference and the other for the plug difference. Finally, I listed the accessories two weeks ago. About a week after listing, someone asked if I could do a local pickup. My part time job is close to where he lived, so I met him on my way in to the office (which I do once a week). In the end, all he wanted was the paddle off the roller assembly. He was OK with the price of $25, so I’ve relisted the rest of the assembly at the same price. Only took me over two years to list the damn thing to make 25x in a relatively short period of time!
These little Snoopy soaps were probably cheap five & dime things that hardly cost anything back in the day, but they are pretty unique today. One of my parents’ downsizing friends was a collector of Snoopy stuff. I got these for free and sold them for best offer of $25.
My husband and I went to an auction in the fall that was mostly automobile stuff. No one wanted two milk cartons of mostly magazines and other paper stuff. My husband thought I was crazy to buy it even at $1 and didn’t think anything would sell. I’ve already made profit on it, but this was the first lot of magazines; 22 late 90s American Rodder mags for $25.
This vintage mug from Chatham College in Pittsburgh sold in just a few days for $20. I’m not used to mugs selling so quick! I paid about $1 in a recent online auction.
