Success with mugs and cups (failures aren’t shown b/c they haven’t sold!) part 2:
Bought these Villeroy and Boch “wave” espresso cups at a small yearly church sale where I typically find 0 or 1 good things. Paid $1-2. Sold for $75 in less than 24 hours – went to Europe. https://imgur.com/a/PF309aT
I had a feeling about this one, so I looked it up in the store before buying. Never heard of Emma Bridgewater before – must be primarily an England thing. Purchased for $3.25 at GW. Sold for $37 in a few weeks. https://imgur.com/a/ybIvJB0
Crate & Barrel designer collab cup and saucer. Purchased for $4 at GW. Sold in 2 weeks for $25. Not a super high return, but I enjoyed having and handling this pretty item for a little while. https://imgur.com/a/tnfwSPG
Got these 2 Franciscan Ivy mugs for $2. Sold the pair for $37 in 2 months. I would have asked more, but they had cracks inside. https://imgur.com/a/Ee1IHpR
Now for 2 Scandinavian items. The first is a pair of very small Figgjo cups from Norway – vintage. Got these for $1 or less. Sold in a couple of weeks for $20. https://imgur.com/a/4e2KbKI
The second is a set of 2 cups and saucers by Nymolle from Denmark. Entitled “Midsummer Night’s Dream” – sort of a folk fairy theme. Purchased for $8.50 at GW. Sold for $44 in 6 weeks. https://imgur.com/a/UNQzAEw
Thanks for your posts Steve and Sonia. My sales have been sporadic, but I was glad to see this candelabra sell https://www.ebay.com/itm/192574238809 I have had it for three years.
I sold some pieces of Old Curiosity Shop ceramics. I think these were awarded to customers of grocery stores in the 50s & 60s. https://www.ebay.com/itm/193251782366
I like to get vintage items that are still new in box. Also museum store items have done pretty well for me. This NIB Revere reproduction letter opener checked both boxes: https://www.ebay.com/itm/193078173839
The value of a large marketplace is that this valueless enamel pin that was tossed in a drawer lot can find a buyer willing to pay $12.50 plus shipping and tax to own it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/193304954677
One of the favorite tricks I learned from SL podcast is to part out broken stuff. I listed this old camera case because why not. Sold it for full asking plus shipping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192921932529
Very good price on the Emma Bridgwater mug! There’s a factory shop for her wares in Stoke-on-Trent; as far as I remember from a visit two years ago the mugs were priced at about 12 dollars. Mostly floral designs.
Last week was typewriter week. The first is a 1948 manual one that I bought for about $5 at an estate sale, and sold on offer to a buyer at $61. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184106030135
The second is an electric Smith Corona in great shape for $124. This was given to me my one of my parent’s downsizing friends. I kept putting off listing because of the testing part, but it sold in less than two weeks. I listed it higher than others because of its great condition. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184183505662
Another whiskey pitcher sold. I purchased a large lot in September, and they’ve been selling little by little. Each cost about 25 cents, and this one is a German gin and sold for $28 to someone in Germany. https://www.ebay.com/itm/183982842006
I recently purchased a number of vintage scales. This one has porcelain plates and is in reasonably nice condition. I paid about $3, and it sold for $50. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184183864468
In 2016, my first year of selling, beginner’s luck got me to a yard sale with lots of good stuff. Most has sold by this time, but I still had this tea and dessert set of fine china. It started as two sets I bought together. The first sold to someone in PA, and two pieces broke in shipping. I had been careful in my packing, but not good enough. I modified this listing for local pickup only. Someone in CA bought it and then requested that I ship it to her and that she would pay $50. Since I’ve learned a thing or two since my first attempt, I decided to go ahead when I found I could ship it for $24 through FedEx. It has been delivered, and I haven’t heard anything. Fingers crossed! I paid about $12, and it sold for $40. I don’t buy sets like these any more unless they are going to sell for much more! https://www.ebay.com/itm/184006037603
Nice sales, Steve. Surprised to see another one of those Panasonic Stereos. Still have the one I purchased after the last one you posted. Got it home and the turntable also wasn’t working. Still sitting on my shelf waiting for me to clean and lube. Seeing how much you sold this one for might get me motivated to finally open it up.
Always impressed with the quality of your videos. I’m sure you’ve answered this before, but are you taking those on your phone, or do you have a dedicated video camera you’re using.
I’ve had some good sales over the last week, much appreciated after the previous slow week. A couple of interesting sales.
Sold an old Birra Moretti bar mirror for $125. I purchased it during yard sale season last summer for $5. I had it listed high and got several offers, but always too low. Was waiting for the first offer over $100. And as a bonus, I had the perfect box for it sitting idle. Always get a thrill when ones just waiting. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133231592929
Sold a really nice antique Imperial carnival glass Ripple vase for $70. Was tempted to keep this one as it looks really cool. Got it in an auction lot of someones entire collection. Took a lot of pictures from different angles for it because the color changed so much. Was asking $99, but after the slow week last week I felt a 30% discount was good enough. Taking a lot of offers lately that I wouldn’t have last year. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133276477815
Sold this interesting metal rosary commemorating the 2000 years since Jesus’s birth. I guess the Catholic church had a pretty big worldwide celebration to honor it. Took an offer of $45 on an asking of $79. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133200780364
In another nod to Steve, I sold a new, sealed reel-to-reel tape for $19.95. I bought a fairly large lot of tapes at auction, mostly used, but this was in the lot. Been selling the used ones 4 for $20, so this was a nice boost. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133031293464
