Trash to Cash. A podcast about making a living on eBay.
What Sells On eBay: 8 Track player, Napa Valley Box Co. Cassette rack, Glove box door, Stove. Burner grate, Gun holster, German gas can, Prince guitar picks, Akai Turntable
Another note about this item – my Aunt was really interested to hear about what I had been selling on eBay and began looking through my store at Christmas. She noticed I had this cassette rack listed and clued me in that these are popular not just for people with cassette collections, some scrapbookers use them to store their stamps & ink pads (she is big into scrapbooking).
She also mentioned there are big scrapbooking trendsetters that will post a new use for an obscure/’worthless’ item in a project and it will quickly sell out everywhere. It’s always interesting to find out about other than intended uses for things that most people would never think of.
I sold a similar Napa Valley cassette holder a year or two ago. I found it in one of our closets. It had been my husband’s. Best way to source!
This inside micrometer set is one of the last big items from an auction my husband and I went to a few months ago. My husband also cleaned it up for me. I bought it for $11, and it sold on offer for $84.76. http://www.ebay.com/itm/184012806209
I was talking to one of my old work buddies about all the vintage radios I bought at auction. He mentioned that he used to repair old tube radios. He gave me this book of circuit diagrams from 1931/32. It sold for $20. http://www.ebay.com/itm/184011496989
I paid a bit too much for an online auction lot of four decoys. I paid about $10 for this hand carved LL Bean goose. It took over 1 1/2 years to sell, but it did go for $49. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183722970109
I paid about $5 for this small German made jar with lid. It is a honey pot for the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah or New Years. It sold via GSP to someone at the Jewish Museum in Munich for $36. I wonder if the guy was buying for himself or if will be part of a display? http://www.ebay.com/itm/184080015239
Steven, Just went to check your store out for record decks and see that none off your listings are showing up. Have you put your store on vacation. Just thought you might want to check.. Love your videos. Cheers Suzy.
Thanks Suzy, yes, I received a 3 day suspension from selling and listing new items for listing a 9v battery that is branded for a spinal bone stimulator which are banned from eBay, no amount of reasoning I tried with CS would make them change their mind on this, it looks like any other 9v battery so I just had to grin and bear it.
Surprisingly I still sold a couple items via best offer, perhaps if a buyer had saved an item on their watchlist they could still put in an offer or contact me.
Ouch. Was it simply because the battery was for a medical device, or was it something special about the spinal bone stimulator? I thought pieces, parts, and supplies for medical devices were ok and only selling the complete unit was prohibited. I’m wondering if I’m no longer safe selling CPAP supplies.
The reps admitted it was a mistake but they could get the appeal past the person who flagged it.
The rep offered to restore my listings visibility but it may have taken more time to repopulate than letting the suspension run its course.
Great sales, Steve and Sharyn! I had one of those Realistic 8-track players on my stereo system when they were new. Boy I hated 8-tracks. It’s hard for me to imagine anyone wanting them now. Cute jerry can. I’ve never seen one that small. Too bad it didn’t have a 1939 – 1945 date on it. 🙂
My stores are still dead but it has helped me to get my listings up to about 300 total. Normally January – March are my best months so I’ve got my fingers crossed that this year will not be an exception.
This Navy cruise book was $5 at a used book sale. Even though it is ‘70s vintage and for a boring fleet auxiliary replenishment oiler, it still sold for $160 plus shipping. I say “boring” for collectors, but actually what oilers do at sea is pretty amazing and quite dangerous. Search “underway replenishment at sea” on Youtube if you’re interested in seeing it in action. https://imgur.com/LtEQ0qI
Challenge coins with a link to the NYPD are good sellers. This consignment sold for $70 plus shipping and is from the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, of which NYPD is a member. https://imgur.com/R4s5DZF
Another consignment challenge coin, this one from a Japanese destroyer. It sold for $150 plus shipping. I expected it to go back to Japan at that price, but it sold to a US buyer who does not appear to be a forwarder. https://imgur.com/EEpjVkd
This Harvard School of Public Health tankard sold for $50 plus shipping. It was $3 at an indy thrift. https://imgur.com/l282AoZ
