What Sells On eBay: Truck mirrors, LL Bean Boots, Polaris Gun boot, Lineman gaffes, 2 stereo systems

Today I used ebay’s new 4x4x4 box for the first time. I HATE the new box size! It comes flattened and took me forever to figure out how to fold – it’s not as intuitive as other boxes that require assembly. Also the shipping labels don’t fit even when cut down so I affixed it to one side and bent it over to the adjoining side which looks crappy. And I wouldn’t be surprised if a few scans get missed.

This was the week of the retail arbitrage sales. 60% of the items sold were retail arbitraged. My best sale this week was a NWT Polo Ralph Lauren canvas bag featuring the ever popular Polo Bear. Paid $79 at a retail store and sold for $189.99. Also sold the last pair of Polo Ralph Lauren cashmere socks that I had. Paid $2.50, sold for $49.99. I can’t fathom paying $50 for a single pair of socks! But I’m glad there are people out there that will.

@JulieB – I saw those new 4x4x4 boxes and just passed. The 6x4x4 boxes are small enough. I did buy the new 12.5×12.5 box with an adjustable depth. They are great for books! Some mentioned using them for vinyl records. The only thing I’d be concerned about is the strength of the adjustable sides. I think they need extra support or else the record might be crushed easily.

This signed copy of Debt of Honor by Tom Clancy was given to me by a friend of my parents. He “knew someone” who “knew someone” who lived near Tom Clancy and had this signed for him years ago. Sold for $43.

Happy to get $40 for this old school Switch plate. Knew I had a winner when I spotted the 1968 Florenta of California marking, paid $1.

Turned $1 into $22 in a couple of days with this 1960’s Chevy key case. Haggled quite a bit with the gent that purchased it, decided to let him win yet I’m enjoying the fast nickel. Pouches like this with decent advertising are normally good for $20, this one could have brought in $40+ over time. He is using it with the vintage car he actually purchased from the dealership back in the day.

This key is an example of selling something with the attitude that you are not selling it to yourself. I enjoy selling vintage ornamental keys on Etsy, yet I was going to pass on listing this one. Somebody liked the funky engraved symbols and actually paid $25 for it. My cost $1.

Nice sales as always, Steven! I had a pretty decent week last week. Here are some highlights…

My top sale of the week came from this Fisher brand 8-track player. I bought it at a shady estate sale. The house was condemned and was scheduled to be demolished but was jammed packed full of stuff. The guy selling the stuff was a real creep so we grabbed a handful of things and got the hell out of there. I paid $5 for this unit, but it didn’t work quite right when I brought it home. But I took a page out of your book and I opened it up to see what the matter was. It just needed some lubrication on the gears and joints. Got it working fine, took a video for the listing and it sold in a few days for $65.

I recently listed a bunch of keys that I got at an auction. I didn’t have a lot of knowledge about selling keys in general, but I did recognize the CAT equipment logo on this one. Some research showed that these keys weren’t keyed for one specific machine, but could be used with any ignition with it’s key number. I listed it for $35 and got full price in a couple of weeks.

I bought a neat little box lot for $5 that was full of old pushback pins. Out of it came this Oldsmobile pin. I didn’t have any indication of an age, but it looked old. I sold it for $15.

I don’t mess with postcards very often – only when they are included in a box lot or something. This neat one actually came out of a scrapbook which I bought for the old photos. It really caught my eye, so I did some research and the tall gentleman was a famous giant who married a woman even taller than he was (the woman in the picture wasn’t her, but his second wife). Anyways, this took a few months to sell for $45.
