Yay I’m first! Great sales, Steve! I love your model cars. I tried to buy a really nice used baby blue ’64 Fairlane bone stock with a 289 automatic in it from a big new car dealership once in Philly. I was about 19 or so at the time. Of course they had priced it very high and I honestly thought they’d sell it for what it was really worth (at the time). I was there about an hour and went through three levels of salespeople before they finally realized I was not budging off my low ball offer and kicked me out.
I bought a small wholesale lot of these ‘70’s or 80’s vintage East German Army surplus leather military pistol holsters for a couple bucks each back when the market was still saturated with their stuff a while after the Berlin wall came down. More surplus: This US Army fatigue shirt is the 100% cotton OG 107 pattern with straight cuffs of a type manufactured in the 50’s and worn into the 60’s. All the patches including the gold printed US Army tape and the white name tape are period correct and certainly all original because it wouldn’t be worth faking it. There’s nothing real exciting about a leg buck sergeant in the 5th Infantry Division. Can’t recall what I paid for it – bought it a while back but my daughter absconded with it to wear. So, I’ve been very good at avoiding shopping but one day I just had a sh*t morning and then got off early from work. I bought this Patagonia Vest for $15 at my favorite indy thrift and it sold the same afternoon for $45. Too big for me to wear. Love the quick flip on Mercari.
That same day I stopped by the GW on the way to work and looked up these Christmas ornaments. Someone’s whole late 80s early 90s collection had been donated. Sold this one the next day and another one today for $12. I like the way the photos turned out. I just grabbed one of our Christmas stockings. Not my cup of tea, but just goes to show it’s worth going through the Christmas throw up.
Donated some of my kids art stuff to fire victims this week. I also was able to list a few unopened kits they received as gifts like this art kit.
I sold this Desimone Italian Vase. Something I haven’t reported about before. Paid $2.99 at GW.
Finally, I had to save this because my kids and I loved Richard Scarry books from the 1970s. Found at an estate sale for $4. Cleaned it up as much as I could. toy playset. A labor of love.

My best sale last week was a Gorham silver plate water pitcher from the late 1800s. I have been photographing all my silver plate against a black background, which looked great for most items. This pitcher had a weird reflection that looked like the bottom half was a different finish. The rest of my sales last week were not of high value. I’ll just speak to this glass menorah, which has been through two Hanukkahs without a sale. It has a name etched into it (in Hebrew), which I assume is the issue. I wonder if the buyer looked through the photos or checked out the description. Anyway, I lowered the price to $15. I just watched (binge watched 10 episodes…hoping for something) of a new show on Discovery called “Vintage Tech Hunters”. I rather watch Steve’s videos any day, however, the show was worth it for some bits.
-the hosts are HORRIBLE. They try and copy the American Pickers feel (even have the same van and conversations in the van) but come across as annoying and insincere.
-a lot of the “vintage tech” they find they overpay significantly for, and have weird logic for the profit. Some items they buy for $400 to make $50 profit…others I know very well and the price they paid and claim they can sell them for is way off.
-they never show anything selling…they claim to sell “online”
-just lots of nonsense and false stories in the show. One episode shows them driving through downtown in the town near me, but then they are at someone’s house an hour away? The episode is supposed to be around Niagara Falls, but at one part they say they are going to look out in the country around the city, and somehow end up in an area 5 HOURS away? Makes no sense.
The show is good for a laugh if you sell vintage electronics, but Steve’s videos are more realistic and will teach you the real value of things – this show is a joke on the number side. However, the items they do find are saleable, just not at the prices they claim (I think they pay $80 for a Lite Brite and claim to flip them for hundreds…yeah right)…
If these jokers have a show, surely Steve should get a chance!
