These Corelle mugs were in like new condition and only cost $1 at a rummage sale. I thought they would be worth more but sold for $12: https://www.ebay.com/itm/113137140861
Vintage crudite/snack lazy susan from the 60’s or 70’s, purchased at the auction for $10 and sold for $50 in spite of the damage which I disclosed: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112003428806
Got these for $3 at a rummage sale and sold for $100. I have to thank someone on the forum who mentioned that ginger jars are popular now. I had these priced lower so I went into the listing and upped the price and added ginger jars to the title. Also, these had original price tags on the bottom for $30 each and I removed those. Am I a scammer? The brand is Jane Seymour… https://www.ebay.com/itm/112964583315
Here’s the owners manual/recipe book that came with an Instant Pot that we bought on ebay for cheap and parted out. We sold the lid separately for $30 and kept the inner pot as a spare for our IP. So this item was basically free and sold for $15: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112840649588
Plus a few other small sales. Glad to see that things are picking up finally.
I don’t even worry if the 8mm, vcrs or other things like that work, as long as I can get them for less than 5 bucks I’m good. I make quite a bit of money on parts machines. It’s not like they can go to the appliance store and order parts for those. I would think that would go for 20 to 25 parts.
Steve: A few comments on your video this week:
1. I had one of those train cases at one time, but not in that color. I didn’t save it, but I guess I’ll be on the lookout now.
2. I sold a Don Davey print (unframed) a month or two ago and have another listed. He must have made lots of copies and had a fleet of people selling on the streets for him.
3. One of my cats went crazy when she found a huge moth last night. Thankfully, she was inside and it was outside.
Anyway, a few of my interesting sales from last week:
Metal shot glasses made in the shape of a thimble with “Only a Thimble Full” embossed on it are apparently a collectable thing. Paid less than a dollar in a box lot, sold for $22: http://www.ebay.com/itm/183343208771
I was at an auction last month where things were going pretty cheap. Usually, I wait until the auctioneer bundles a bunch of stuff together when no one is bidding. However, I have such good luck with men’s fedora hats, that I immediately bid the opening amount and no one bid against me. There were four hats, and this is the first to sell. I paid a bit under $3 per hat, and this one sold for $44. For some reason, this Churchill Ltd brand seemed to be more popular than the others I have listed. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183332871413
At the same auction as the hats, I bought this small book in a different lot. It is a prayer book commemorating the coronation of King George V & Queen Mary in 1911. It was in beautiful shape. Bought for under $1, sold for $30: http://www.ebay.com/itm/183347870406
For that large pair of speakers that sold, how did you ship them? Did you get them in one big box? Or did you split them into two boxes. If you split them, how did you do that in ebay?
I am asking because I have several sets of larger speakers to sell and not sure how to go about that. Last time I heard, Ryanne said there wasn’t a “good way” to ship an item (2 speakers) in separate boxes. I haven’t found a way either.
I’ve run into this problem as well. So far, I’ve included average shipping costs in the price and then marked it “free shipping”. However, you can’t do this for GSP because eBay won’t calculate the international shipping costs correctly. What I did was narrow the listing down to US only and excluded Alaska, Hawaii, and other US territories.
Another way to do it is to put in shipping costs as a flat rate. Again, the average shipping for US, and then exclude AK, HI, and territories.
If anyone has a better method, I’d love to hear it myself. The first time I had the issue, I called eBay, and they didn’t have a good answer.
Actually, now that I think about it, I asked Steve once about something he shipped internationally in two boxes, and I think he said he didn’t have an issue with the GSP.
I’ll only ship small (12”-15”) Speakers in a single box.
With this pair I doubled the weight and dimensions for calculated shipping on the listing, they went via GSP. After printing one label I go back to the shippping labels page and purchase and print another label, I also mark the labels and boxes 1 of 2, 2 of 2.
The pair I sold a couple weeks ago I used calculated for one speaker and added a $100 handling fee, those also went GSP with no problems.
Mostly RA items selling last week from my dwindling inventory of new items. I think I mentioned this find in the forum before, but amazing value on these vintage phonics books $119 and best offer $45. I said no returns because I didn’t want them to just copy and return them. They sold pretty quickly. Hard to believe the prices. The books are 8 page paperbacks. Paid $3 at a boy scout fundraiser for both sets.
Finally got my first sale on Mercari of my daughter’s Ivivva Shorts. Yeah! Bought a label on Paypal. Hope it goes smoothly.
Sold this pink afghan from the death piles for $40. Paid $3 at the thrift store. I’m not picking any new ones up, but I think some designs and nice, unusual colors sell. The buyer left feedback that the color was hard to find.
ChristineR – thanks for the thoughts on the afghans. I always look for, and have had some good sales on them, but I’ve slowed down myself. There are so many out there.
Steve, I join you in the happy sales of organ components. Last week I sold the drawbar/vibrato assembly off of mine for $70. Paid nothing for the organ, but did have to store it in my living room (my house is small) for too long, then take the time to take it all apart, which I found mostly fun and interesting. Went to NC. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hammond-M3-Organ-Drawbar-Tonebar-Assembly-and-Vibrato-Switches-Parts/323081906879
Working out of town this week, and I’ll be lucky if my schedule allows me to source any while here, but I remain hopeful! A scheduling error before I left town allowed me to get over to drop some things at Goodwill and have the extra time to kill to walk around inside a bit. Scored a vintage Pendleton blanket, as well as a Faribo Mills blanket. Look forward to listing those when I get back.
I could literally drive around town right now and pick up 15 afghans. They are bulky so I don’t need that right now. But a seller I follow on Etsy has some bedspread size ones going for $100 and some with the 3d flower design for $40-50.
My store has been doing surprisingly okay during this summer slowdown period. I’m averaging more in sales than last year for sure! Here’s some notable items that sold…
This is the second home vacuum hair cutting system I picked up and sold almost immediately. Definitely BOLO! This Flowbee brand hair cutter was acquired from the same thrift store and for the same price of $5 as the first one. All the parts were intact, and it looked hardly used, if even used at all. I priced it higher than average at $90 and took a $75 best offer. I probably should have held out for a little more since it was only a day after listing it, but I was hungry for some sales. Flowbee Home Haircutting System
Vintage tackle boxes are a nice item to find cheap and sell for a good profit. This aluminum “My Buddy” brand fold-out box came from an auction a few months ago. Paid a little more than I would normally have at $10, but it came with this awesome military grenade box that I’ll talk about next week. Finally got around to listing it for $70 and the low ball BOs started rolling in. It didn’t take long to make a deal with one guy for $55. Vintage Aluminum Tackle box
This small Victor brand rodent live trap came from the same auction as above. It was in a box lot with a couple other sellable items for $2. Antique and unique traps can fetch an amazingly large price. There are collectors of these things for sure. This was not an old or unique enough example, but I still got $30 out of it. I had it set up in my basement with some stale bread while it was listed for sale. Didn’t catch a thing, but I think that’s a good thing. Small Victor Live Trap
I would have never found this old photograph if I hadn’t decided to list some old promotional paper booklets that came out of a box lot. It was tucked inside of one of them and just fell out when I was photographing them for listing. It’s an 8×10, B&W photo of a dairy processing company out of Marietta, Ohio. The detail was amazing! For as far away as the photographer was, you could get a magnifying glass out and see the lines in the people’s faces. I knew there were dairy collectors out there who would appreciate this photo. I was right, as it sold in a day for $30. Vintage Crystal Dairy Photograph
