Steve – I follow your store, and I noticed that the Dodge Ram steering wheel that was in your video last week ended up showing up again. What happened there?
That canister set was a really good find. You can just imagine that someone received a gift, but they already had something they were using. They put it in storage thinking that some day they might need it.
My interesting sales for the week:
Earlier this year, I bought an online auction lot of cassettes, CDs, a cassette holder, etc. for the starting bid of $1. I’ve already made over $100 on it. This listing was for a large number of Bruce Springsteen items that came with it. I had it listed for $75 on sale. I was all for just getting rid of it, so we came to a $40 price after a a counteroffer or two. It’s going to a fancy thrift store in MA, so I’m sure he’ll be selling each separately. That’s more reasonable for a physical store. I could have made money $5 at a time, but I don’t have the interest and patience. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183122049394
When I saw this hanging lamp in an online auction, I thought that thing is so ugly someone is really going to want it. I suppose it’s not that ugly, but definitely not my style. I thought it might look nice in a beach house. I paid a little under $30, and it sold for $150 to someone in IL (i.e. not a beach house). http://www.ebay.com/itm/183198222012
This is a lot of recipe pamphlets, mostly from the 60’s and 70’s, that came in a box lot with other books. I definitely didn’t want to separate them out especially because the price gets too high when you figure in the cost of shipping with tracking. These sold within a day for $25. They cost about $2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183255577289
This is what happens when I buy an auction lot and then get bored with it. I have other watches from this lot listed, but I’ll not make much money on it at the end. I thought that I would be listing these mostly separately, but I just lost interest. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183211222006
My first typewriter sale! Paid about $4, sold for $60. I did have to buy a new ribbon to test it properly, and I spent some time cleaning it up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183219749941
I bought this suitcase that appears to be unused for a bit under $6. I found out that it was for storing or transporting a church robe. I took an offer that was a bit low at $40, but it was kind of big and taking up room. Maybe I should have made a counteroffer, but I’m generally happy with the sale. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183255162954
Steve, love the condition on that canister set! Watching your cute dog endings is interesting because it is so seasonal. Our weather is always the same here and it keeps me in touch a bit with what is going on elsewhere. Tfs your great sales.
The canister set gets me thinking of all the “extra” or “back-up” items I have in my house in case my primary item gets broken or damaged.
I think when my estate is cleared up, some future scavenger is going to have a field day with all the NIB items or miscellaneous parts for things I own that I’ve picked up at thrift stores, garage sales, or on clearance that I have saved away “just in case” something happens.
@Sharyn – that is THE UGLIEST lamp I have ever seen. Wow! It looks Godzilla vomited his seafood meal onto something metal that melted into a blob. I love that you picked it out, and found someone that loves that particular aesthetic. Best wishes, Daniel.
LOL! I think that is the funniest image one could come up with for that lamp!
The even funnier thing is that the buyer had bought another one of these off eBay, but it was damaged in shipping. She liked it so much that she bought a replacement!
What a great find and sale on the lamp. For the decorator inclined person who loves the nautical, sea and/or beach theme, that would make a great asthetic piece. It’s those kind of unique pieces/finds that will really help sales and make a seller stand out. I am always working to figure out if what I am listing would be considered a great find by a buyer.

Steve, Great video and great sales- I’m such creeper creeper- I make them into coffee tables and coat racks, and repurpose the casters on other pieces- love them-
Sharyn, about the lamp….Who wouldn’t want to shout out in the dark “Turn on that Hangin’ Clam!”? Good Eye!
Love to hear about everyone’s big scores – living vicariously. 🙂 Just hit up a neighbor’s estate sale. Appears she got rid of nothing, but she also didn’t store things very well….among some hard goods, I picked up some vintage fabric (musty) and some vintage books (musty) :-(.
Nothing amazing sold last week, but still some interesting items. The highlights:
I’m a fan of lampshade reselling, though the larger you get, the more you may have to think through your pricing, as the shipping can scare off potential buyers. Wanted to list these ones for more, but because of their large size, didn’t. The Buyer contacted me about the shipping expense…I sized down their potential box, and was able to shave off ~$15 from the shipping cost, so that was a win. Bought the set for $6, and sold them for $60: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-2-Black-Paper-Gold-Lined-Large-Drum-Lamp-Shades-10-tall-x-15-top-x-18-bt/323212761328
I love that kitchen canister set! I’ve never seen a new-in-box one before. Great find! I made a few notable sales last week. Here are some highlights…
Old box cameras are extremely hit or miss (with mostly misses). Since you can’t really develop the old style film anymore, the only people who want these are collectors. I still can’t resist buying them at auctions though because they intrigue me. This one is unique. It was Kodak’s smallest box camera called the Premo No 00 and is kind of rare. It and a few other cameras and things came out of a nightstand that I bought for $22 total. It only took a couple weeks to sell for full price of $60. Kodak No 00 Premo Box Camera
I LOVE little vintage tools! I’m learning a lot about which tools and which brands to really keep an eye out for. Starrett is one of those brands that you really can’t go wrong if you can get them cheap enough. This pair of tiny rule clamps came out of a box lot that I paid $13 for (each sellable item comes to $.98 cents). They sold within a week for $30. Vintage Starrett Rule Clamps
This was my big sale of the week. This pair of Sheffield sterling handled cake serving utensils came from a box long that I really paid up for ($115 for box lot / $16.50 each sellable item), but I almost tripled my profit from that so far. They took awhile to sell probably because I couldn’t find the pattern name and there was some Hebrew engravings on the blades, but I took a best offer of $75 for them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/302436525251
Here’s a small collection of photo slides that I acquired for almost nothing. They’re all car related, but I don’t know what make or models they were. I listed them anyways and they sold after a few weeks for $18. Selling lots of slides is a newish venture for me. I’ve been scanning them in, slapping a quick watermark on them, and taking a photo of them all together on a slide sorter. Then I put the best slide as the main photo. We’ll see how that works out because I have literally thousand of slides to sell! Vintage Automobile Photo Slides
This last sale was interesting. I pulled this zip-up binder out of a pile of junk at a really dirty amateur estate sale. Inside was full of these NASA Facts educational pamphlets from the 60s and 70s. It was a really neat collection. I listed it high and waited for the right buyer. Took a few months but it sold for $50. Collection of NASA Facts Ephemera
Steve, very cool sales! The stereo equipment is an area I would like to explore yet requires more time to do properly than I have right now with the Velvet coffin day job I have!
So, I continue with a weird eye for the ugly guy kind of pickups, hope some enjoy:
10″ of kitschy Christmas in June, summer fun Japan style, found as a bonus, sold $27 Etsy:
Soaky clone Flipper imposter cheapo bubble bath bottle, worn and not designed to stand up for display, crappy makes it better, fetching a price in the Soaky Monster Bottle range, found as a bonus, sold $95 on eBay, don’t bother looking for this nautical Unicorn unless this one floats back out into the wild seas:
I was at an Estate sale on the last day over a year ago and filled up a large box (paid $20) with really nice pillow cases, some sheets and lots of fabrics. It turns out I couldn’t identify most of the stuff, but some of the fabrics were labeled. After being listed over a year, I made a couple of sales.
