The short haired dog (is that Norman?) seemed to be the peace keeper between the collie and the cat!
My interesting sales from the week:
This sale is of a vintage, hand crank meat slicer. I had bought one in a box lot last year for about $1, but didn’t get around to listing it until the beginning of this year for $20. It sold in just a few days. So, when I saw another one in an online auction, I figured I’d go for it. I paid about $6 for this one (same brand, same style), so I upped the price from $20 to $24. Still sold in a few days. The other funny thing about it was that it was described as a “hand slicer”. Hum, I thought my customers would be more interested in a “meat slicer”. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183195481981
I didn’t think much about this pair of boot trees. Just an old vintage item. I didn’t see many similar items, but I didn’t think it was too exciting. I listed it for $16, and someone in New Zealand paid $55 to ship it to him. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183199824555
I paid a dollar or two for this brass umbrella stand at a live auction. It is OK from the outside, but a bit corroded in the inside. Still sold for $49. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182937535159
My best sale this week was a higher end make up case that sold for $200. I bought it for $69 brand new. I’ve had 3 of them for probably a year and was beginning to think my purchase had been a mistake. After having them listed at $249 with a lot of watchers for quite some time, I finally sold one when I reduced the price last week. I’m now waiting for the buyer to hopefully leave good feedback so that I can be somewhat confident that they probably aren’t going to return it. Profit after all fees and shipping was $88. It was a lot of money to have tied up for that long so I don’t know if I’ll do it again.
An online retail arbitrage purchase thats had some selling activity lately was 20 headbands I bought during a Black Friday sale. After a few months of no activity, they’ve been a consistent seller lately. I’m willing to sell smaller profit items when its a small, easy to ship, light weight multi-quantity item. I’ve made $142.23 profit (after all fees and shipping) off of them with 4 left to sell.
Hi Y’all-
Wow, Best week ever….
Items listed:32 (no store yet, close…)
Items sold:6
Total Sales:383.00
Ship/Fees 103.00
COGS: 21.00 and an unused parking spot for 90 days in the back 40
I had used the “auction Kenny” method to sell these 10 days back- bidding went all the way to 115.00 but all south american (brazil chile etc) bidders with no paypal or bidder history- of course they didn’t pay, so, learning opportunity for unpaid buyer procedure. It was easy, just wait a week relist. They ultimately sell in 2 days for 99.99 free ship- to Pa.
(reset auction settings to no paypal no bidding….)
I have no solid answer to the bump in sales but I’ve observed the following-
Changed most of my listings to free shipping/shipping included.
Raised the prices to cover shipping costs and fees and then added 10 bucks and checked best offer box. Most items have sold for a few bucks under the listing price, or full price!
Noticed sales of new and expiring items have sold as discussed in the forum.
Increased items for sale from the low 20’s to over 30 items.
Stopped buying dumb stuff.
Got really lucky in finding smart items to sell.
Could not have done it without you guys- thanks
sally
Best item of the week will be continued- Got this free from a creepy estate sale – story to follow after the auction…. https://www.ebay.com/itm/112977067246
Awesome reel to reel sale, Steve! I’ve got an Otari MX-50II that I’m holding on to for now because I like it. But I’m glad to see that they can still sell well. I didn’t have a super great week of sales, but here are some interesting ones nonetheless…
I’ll start with this neat Kieninger Obergfell Kundo anniversary wall clock that sold. I came in a box lot and cost me about $3. This looked like it was in the process of being repaired. It was missing the pendulum and key, but I’ve never see this wall sconce style before. Kundos usually come as mantle or desk clocks. So I priced it kinda high at $50 and it sold within a week. Here’s a single pink depression glass salt shaker that came out of a box lot. It cost me .42 cents. Depression glass is tricky because there are soooo many patterns to look for and most of them are really common. I didn’t have a guide and couldn’t find a good one online, so I just winged it with what I thought was a reasonable price of $10. It sold within minutes. I’m hoping I didn’t price it too low, but really I’m happy for the sale. Pink Depression Glass Shaker
Here’s another interesting sale. I acquired a bunch of these paper promotional booklet items from an auction box lot for almost nothing. They were from the Paterson Parchment Paper Company, and I assume they were Christmas gifts mailed to their clients. This one was a booklet about Hawaii. I put just this one up as a sort of test to see if there was any interest, and it sold within hours for $15. So I’ll eventually list the rest for probably $40 each. Unless anyone has any information that should suggest I price them higher? Paterson Parchment Paper Co Ephemera
I acquired this Wheeling Corrugating twin pail at an auction for $6 along with some other odds and ends. It was one of the few items that I was able to clean up after the flood and relist. It finally sold for a best offer of $45, which I’m glad for because it was taking up a lot of space. So keep an eye out for these old metal buckets. There are collectors for them! They’re prevalent in my area because I live in Wheeling where they were made. Wheeling Corrugating Twin Pail Bucket
Hi Doublythumbs, I believe the depression glass shaker you sold is made by Anchor Hocking and is the Colonial Knife & Fork pattern. There are some listed on eBay. Thanks for posting your finds and sales.
Thanks for the info, Steve! There appears to be a couple listings for the salt and pepper shakers with really high prices, but none sold except mine. I’m satisfied with the price I got for it now.
I may have to invest in a pattern guide book or something one day. Some of this depression glass brings in pretty good money!
I’ve just culled through a lot of stuff in ye olde eBay room, passing items along to a charitable yard sale for an organization I may become a board member for…Anyhoo, filing under Get It Out Of The House, and likely some bad purchases. I’ve also re-listed a few items at 30 Day rather than GTC, thinking those particular items might benefit from the boost. Everything else I gave a good talking to about finding their new homes… 🙂
Slow sell, these pretty iridescent glasses – but all at once, too, so that was nice. I picked up a huge glasses lot via an online auction almost a year ago (“everything in the cupboard”), and it included a few sets of these marigold/amber iridescent glasses – iced tea glasses, snifters, wine glasses, etc. Wine glasses were the first to sell. This gal bought everything else I had, to match some she already owner for a bridal party she was putting on for her daughter. She asked and I gave her a deal, but I kinda regret it, due to the amount of packaging required, and b/c I lost money on needing to ship in multiple boxes. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Listing-for-jmswilson-Set-of-12-Iridescent-Marigold-Iced-Tea-Glass/322796702626
I’m slowly (because I live with a resistant to change person) updating the new-to-us house from its 1980s Colonial glory, including replacing entry doors with keyless locks and modern handlesets. Sold our front door brass handleset for $80, after fielding some inquiries and requests for a deal. Had some red paint and grime on it, but should I have priced higher? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Brass-Handleset-w-Dexter-Deadbolt-Entry-Door-Knob-Handle-Complete-Key/323217781884
Vintage Australia Ski Sweater – Picked this up at an estate sale for $1 and sold for $50.
Awesome Celluloid Devil Pin – I love this thing! It winks and blinks as you move it, and it’s obviously pretty old. I found it with a bunch of cheap jewelry at an estate sale and got it for 25 cents. It sold quickly for $49.99, and I wish I’d priced it higher!
Sami Laplander Reindeer Fur Shoes – Paid $1 for these at a yard sale a long time ago, and took a $100 offer on them. What’s really funny is that I bought another pair of Sami reindeer shoes the same day these sold. Ha! Gotta keep those shelves stocked!
Small Quimper Dish – Never in a million years would I have ever bought this without Scavenger life! This little bowl looks pretty much like a kid made it and I think I only noticed it because it was 75% off at an estate sale so I was really digging for treasures. I always look for Quimper after hearing about your big score, and this is the first I’ve found. I paid 50 cents and it sold quickly with a $70 best offer!
