Sigilini: Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. You find some cool stuff. I always look out for chess boards and pieces and do well with them, but I usually find the stone boards and they are super heavy to ship. I like the wood one.
Good job on the boot scraper. Old rusty stuff is good, I’m always amazed at some of the things I have sold like that.
Hi, I love the story of the boot scraper! I’m curious, I don’t get it. How is it about scraper? Do you know how it works? Great video, thanks for sharing, Marjean
Marjean28. It is a very skinny cast iron HEAVY piece. Here is the link to the sold listing for additional info: https://www.ebay.com/itm/162892825875
I agree it is a great story. The funny part was that this item was not part of the yard sale, it was in the yard away from the main area and even funnier is that the seller made some comment like, “finally, got some money out of you.”
Thanks for sharing this! I have had one of these boot scrapers on my deck for years, just rusting and used occasionally – but I didn’t think it was worth anything, let alone hundreds of dollars!
I’m going to take care of it better now – and move it to a location where someone won’t be able to steal it easily.
Nice sale on that Zenith Trans Oceanic! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for those. Thanks.
That Midge sure is a funny little girl, but the doggy does not look impressed.
No huge sales this week, but some older lower priced items did sell, so yay:
The final Kitty’s Critters from the big Tiki yard sale, paid $5, sold to Florida for $48.75, Izzy is very happy in his new home: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112800606805
InStyler hair styler, I bought and never used after having just cut my hair shorter, got several low offers through messaging, but sold for full price of $44.95: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112834515368
I also had a successful resolution of a return case using eBay for Business on Facebook. I messaged them on a return request (does not fit) for a Levis 541 jeans sold through GSP, buyer in Germany saying they were way way way too small. Levis 541’s are an “athletic fit” and much tighter than other Levis, but it’s not indicated on the tag. I measured the jeans carefully and put that in the listing. The buyer had messaged me in German and also using Google Translate, but I felt that the language barrier had made it so he did not understand what he was buying. I received $21.20 total from the sale, buyer paid $45.73 with GSP. I was prepared to refund the buyer the whole $45.73, but decided to reach out to eBay for Business as I have heard others do. I did that on Monday, which apparently is their very busy day. I heard back from them Tuesday morning, they had already refunded the buyer the full price that I received (buyer can keep the jeans), and created a request to refund the rest of the GSP fees, which can take up to 72 hours for the buyer to get. So, the buyer will get back everything they paid. I’m glad it worked out for the buyer and also selfishly for me! Happy buyer, happy life, happy seller, happier life.
Thanks Beverly for your post of what sold and your success story on the refund. And thank you for the acknowledgment on the video I posted. I feel very blessed to know this group and to be able to finally share something useful. For a while I was just asking for help, now I can return the favor occasionally!
I’m skimming through my solds today since I’m going back two weeks. Here are highlights:
This vintage electrical beer sign was $2 in a large lot of alcohol related advertising signs. It sold to someone in Australia for $45: http://www.ebay.com/itm/182902198006
Someone requested that I include shipping in the price for these Men’s Carolina work boots. Shipping was not too expensive, so I agreed and extended an offer. I wasn’t surprised when they sold, but then realized that someone else bought them for the full price of $40. I bought them for $1 in an online auction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182997410311
I found these on the side of the road with a “free” sign on them. These two 8-track tape cabinets sold for $48. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182998664990
I mentioned this tape cassette holder in the BOLO section. I bought this with a number of cassettes, CDs, and DVDs for $1 in an online auction. This brand & type of 70’s holder was modified and used in Star Trek The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine as an engineer’s kit. I had no idea when I bid on it. Sold for $90. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183102958410
I bought this awesome mirror with a hand carved frame in an online auction for a little over $12, and I accepted a $100 offer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/182790059716
I paid about $17 for this 1970’s CB transceiver in an online auction. The seller said that it worked. It did power on, but I did not have the proper equipment to test it. I sold it for $51 as-is. http://www.ebay.com/itm/183090344752
Sharyn, that cassette holder and the price you got for it blew my mind. It’s amazing what people will pay for something just because of the show it was associated with. I’ll definitely be on the look out for those! Thanks!
I had watched both those Star Trek shows, but I had no idea. I didn’t find anything real interesting in my initial “general” Google search. I decided I wanted to figure out the logo, so I started with a simple “hard plastic cassette holder” search through eBay, and BAM there was a rose colored one that sold for $81. The listing had all the information I needed!
I keep an eye out for these odd things from now on – an old 3D Victorian fashion shadowbox. Purchased it for an unknown reason at a thrift store, let it sit for wayyyyy too long, then finally got around to researching it and found a viable market and pricing. Paid $5, and sold for $57 on sale. I think it would have sold at full price with a little more time, but I’m trying to reclaim some more space in my house – for space. https://www.ebay.com/itm/La-Mode-Illustree-3D-Shadow-Box-Embellished-Fabric-French-Fashion-11-5-x-15/323012157514
Last week’s faves:
Vintage Elf/Gnome Christmas Ornaments – I bought these in a box of misc. ornaments, so I think I ended up paying around $3 for them, and took an offer of $100. I love them and was kind of sad to see them go! https://www.ebay.com/itm/232647934086
Rubber Stamp – I got this for $1 and sold it for $49.99. I looked up what kind of rubber stamps sell for a lot since I see them so often, and noticed these “House Mouse” stamps can go for a bunch. Sure enough! https://www.ebay.com/itm/332389404339
Sami Laplander Fur Boots – I bought these and another similar pair for $1 each at a yard sale, and these sold for $140. They disappeared from my listings quite a while back, but I never got an email saying I had a violation or anything. So I finally relisted them and they sold right away! https://www.ebay.com/itm/332576868218
Idahoarder,
Great sales, and I’m jealous of your fur boot sale. I found a pair very similar to that (salvation army $5), though in worse condition, and after doing all the research, learned that they are seal fur boots. Unfortunately, the term “seal fur” got the listing flagged & removed really quickly, and when I opened an etsy account specifically to sell them, I got the same result there. So now I have this pair of boots sitting around unlisted. I guess this is one time when doing a lot of research was a mistake! Maybe I will re-donate, since I’m too lazy to try facebook or craigslist.
Yeah, when I had them listed the first time, a buyer messaged me and said that they might be seal fur. I wasn’t certain if they were, and someone on here suggested that I just list them as “fur boots” with no indication as to what kind of fur they were. It worked. I think the other pair I have might be reindeer, but I just listed them as fur as well to play it safe.
Hi all, this video is all of my February solds. Haven’t had too many amazing sales this month, and last month it was mostly small bread and butter items.
I stopped buying those gooseneck lamps cause they sucked to pack for little return. But if I could sell them for $80 or more, I may start reconsidering. Here are some of my more interesting sales over the last couple weeks.
I acquired this Mexican sombrero at the university where I work. The international student department had been dissolved and they were giving away all of this stuff. So I went and grabbed up anything that I thought was worth selling. Lol! I’ve never seen a sombrero made this well before. The straw was really stiff and it weighed a lot more than it looked. I saw other well-made sombreros selling for the 80-100 dollar range, so I listed mine for $150 because why not? Well it didn’t take long to sell for full price! ¡Olé! Mexican Sombrero
I love it when I’m the only one at an auction who finds the value in a particular item. For example, this religious framed lithograph just really stood out to me and apparently no one else. I got it for $2. I took it home, cleaned it up and listed it for $130. I really had no clue as to how long I would have to hold on to this piece before it sold. But to my surprise, it only took a couple months. I took a best offer of $95 because of the broken glass. The lady who bought it was really sweet too and wrote me a kind message about how much she loved it. Framed Religious Lithograph
Here’s a good example as to why you shouldn’t just throw away box lot trash until you’ve done enough research. This old 1937 paper vehicle registration was on the bottom of a box of misc. stuff. There wasn’t much to it, but it was in good enough condition for its age that I thought maybe someone might be interested. I listed it for $18. It took a few months, but it sold! Old Vehicle Registration
I purchased a large box of cool glassware at an auction for $65. It was a bit of a gamble, but it really paid off. I’ve already doubled my profit and have a lot more to sell. Well inside was this really cool tea cup and saucer. It’s called a Taltos Fortune Telling Teacup. If I were more of a fancy tea drinker, I would have kept it. But I’ve got plenty of liquid vessels, so up on eBay it went. I listed it for $40 and sold it for full price after a couple months. Taltos Fortune Telling Teacup
Here’s another item that I didn’t image anyone would have an interest in. I snagged a bag of used metal keys from a lady at an auction who said she didn’t want them. I said yeah, I’ll take them. Free is free. Now I know OLD old keys (like skeleton keys) can be valuable if you can get them for cheap enough. But these were just regular newish everyday kinds for doors, cars, luggage and whatnot. In other words, nothing special. But I listed them anyways and they sold after a while for $20. Lot of Used Keys
Wow, DoublyThumbs, really fun sales! Old keys?? Great thinking on the lithograph. I imagine I’ve walked past something like that before…. Trying to get more and more on track with thinking along the lines of what other people value, and this sure helps!
