Congratulations on paying off your mortage that is a great accomplishment. Thanks for posting it is inspiring.
Week of December 10-16
Total items in store: 250
Total sales: $296.86 (does not include shipping)
# items sold: 14
Weekly Sell Through Rate: 5.6%
Average: $21.20
Returns: 0
# items listed: 9A pretty good week considering the low number of items I have listed. As I suspected the buyer of the $120 jacket last week did not pay. The good news is I relisted it and it sold today for $160. That will help my numbers for next week.
Between items selling and holiday activities I didn’t increase my total number of listings. So,
the goal for next week is still 260 items, again.Next weeks total items in store goal: 260
My goal is to increase the total number of items I have listed by 10 each week regardless of how many items sell.
Coincidently, I am buying a set of china tomorrow which I will sell piece by piece. The set will cost $165 but I should be able to make at least a $500 profit if I am patient. I usually stay away from dinner wear since it’s a pain to store and ship, but once in a while I will buy a set.
Thanks for the warning on the blankets
Here’s how I think it will play out. eBay will include enhanced Terapeak functionality for “free” with subscriptions. However, the subscriptions will increase in price, or the listing fees etc. will increase. This seems to be eBay’s current MO.

Week of December 3-9
Total items in store: 250
Total sales: $295.00 (does not include shipping)
# items sold: 6
Weekly Sell Through Rate: 2.4%
Average: $49.16
Returns: 0
# items listed: 9My average sales price is skewed by a jacket I sold for $120. Unfortunately, I don’t think the buyer is going to pay. 🙁
Next weeks total items in store goal: 260
My goal is to increase the total number of items I have listed by 10 each week regardless of how many items sell.
12/11/2017 at 5:43 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 338: Rich Scavenger, Poor Scavenger #28651I just checked and it looks like the Enterprise version of Sixbit is $69.99 per month. That’s double my current rate for Small Business version. I am going to wait until I have at least 500 items listed that would be good for Etsy.
One cool advantage he has is people bringing him inventory throught the front door. This is the only advantage I can see to a brick and mortar store.
I would not want to be chained to a bm store. Even if you have empolyees, when someone doesn’t show up, guess who gets to run it?
+1
I get mine from a local company that sells boxes and stuff. I think the shipping charge for the peanuts would be prohibitive due to the bulk of the bag. My cost is $17.63 for a 14 cubic foot bag.
Instead of saying why? Say why not?
Mike thank you for taking the time to make these detailed posts. It is very much appreciated.

12/07/2017 at 8:29 pm in reply to: Postage price hikes? How do you update shipping rates on listings #28372Almost all of my items are calculated shipping for the reasons already mentioned.
When I am listing an item I weigh it and add 1 pound for the box and packing materials. If the item is extra large then I add 2 pounds. Then I add an additional $2.00 shipping and handling charge!
Regarding the handling charge, I started it way back when eBay started charging fees on shipping as a way to lessen the impact of that change. I have had very few complaints over the years and I don’t think it decreases sales on one of a kind items.
For those of you who sell hundreds of items a month adding a handling charge could provide a nice income boost. Why not give it a try? If you find it decreases sales you could always remove it.
I don’t do it and it’s very rarely that I receive anything with the items I purchase.
Having said that, yesterday I received a signed Christmas card with a lot of books I had purchased.
To my surprise, I liked it and it made my day a little better. Will I be going out of my way to leave the seller positive feedback. You bet I will, despite the fact that the books took about 10 days to get to me.
That’s why I went to a single page two part label. The top half is the packing slip which tears off. The bottom half has a peel off adhesive shipping label. My process is: read the packing slip, pick and pack the item, and attach the label. This allows me to print postage in bulk and still avoid mistakes.
