I used the shipping calculator switching between large envelope and envelope. Large envelope, even at 1 ounce, still has a minimum cost of $2.67. If you offer the seller “online rates”, it goes down to $2.61. I don’t see a $2.45 option anywhere.

I opened up in YouTube to see if there would be a difference, but the issue was still there.
Update: Nevermind. It was a computer problem. I restarted and all is good.

I think it is better to do it within the eBay system. If there is an issue after you receive the item back, eBay will be able to help; otherwise, they have no evidence that the item has been returned.
The buyer will be able to buy & print a label directly from eBay. I believe that the same discount we get to ship to the seller is also available to the buyer to ship back. Or, I think (but not sure) that there might be a discount on a return label.
That doesn’t make sense. Perhaps you should check your listing and the options you selected? I tried checking the difference between “Package or Thick Envelope” and “Letter”, but letter only goes up to $0.91 for 3 ounces.
Perhaps you can show some screen shots here. Otherwise, you will have to call eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/182339184341I sold some upholstery fabric to a buyer in CA who had just opened an account. She wanted a cheaper shipping rate, so I explained how to select FedEx Smartpost. It shipped May 3 and still isn’t there. Bought for $1.50, sold for $27:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182296001341I bought an auction lot of vintage copper items (in not great condition), so I grouped a bunch of items into one lot. Paid a dollar or two & sold for $22 through GPS to Canada.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182556540032I visited my parents last month, and my dad gave me some unopened proxybrush refills that he no longer used. Sold this one for $28:

One issue is you have to submit two insurance claims if something is damaged in shipping. I’m not sure that would be worth the headache.
That said, I think you should ask your question directly to eBay. Perhaps you should save it for a time when you another reason to call them. Or, if I have to call them first, I’ll ask. I’ll be interested to hear the answer.

* Total Items in Store: 778

* Cost of Items Sold: $13.33 + $0 Commission
* Total Sales: $321
* Highest Price Sold: $40 Harmony Kingdom Collectable Box
* Average Price Sold: $20.06
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $3
* Number of items listed this week: about 40Another decent week for me! I did go to some garage sales & flea markets on Saturday, but really didn’t find much. Maybe my area isn’t as good for garage sales or maybe I’m just getting more picky. I’m taking the time now to get through my unlisted items and death piles.
I had a neighbor ask me to sell some Zumba brand clothing on consignment, which I agreed to do at 50% commission. I decided the time was right for me to put together a consignment agreement. I don’t need to have a fancy document with all the legalize; just something that explains terms. Perhaps I will post it here when it is completed.
I was going to go to a flea market and sell my slow selling, low value eBay items, but the weather was overcast with slight showers in the afternoon. I’ve decided to sell at a different one scheduled for May 20.
This sewing machine has no serial number that I can find. It isn’t a Singer anyway.
Underneath the machine, in the bottom of the carrying cover, I found the handwritten number 42101. I double-checked the Singer database, and their serial numbers start with 6 digits and go up.
I just went to the “Manage all Orders” eBay page, and they’ve added a bunch of functionality. One change is now a buyer’s message appears above their item. I know a number of people here have complained that any message that the buyer might leave is buried deep in an email. Often it is missed.
I noticed that a buyer from last week had left me a message that I never noticed. Thankfully, he was only asking that I leave a tracking #, which happens automatically anyway, so no big deal.
They also added other information (or made it more visual) such the date you need to ship by in order to be within your handling time, and then the shipping date once you’ve shipped it.
All-in-all, I think it is good.

My interesting items from last week:
I bought this wood & brass barometer at an online auction September of last year. I didn’t list it right away because I didn’t think it was working. I finally did some research and figured out how to calibrate it. It works! The buyer asked if I could get the shipping cost down, so I said that it would fit in a medium flat rate box. WRONG. Not after I wrapped it properly. Paid about $1.50, sold for $42 minus about $6 in extra shipping cost.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=182473827032This is a framed decoupage art piece made in Jerusalem. I bought it for $5 last summer, and it has been gathering dust since. I thought I’d never sell it, but I got an offer of $28.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=182157061295I’m going to just throw this one in here because it’s kinda fun. It is a fake cake that was given to me, and I sold it for $15.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=182545782754About a month ago, I sold a set of Fitz & Floyd dragon napkin rings for $180. I had bought it and this set of silver plated napkin rings for about $14. These sold for $30 through GSP; I think to someone in Italy.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=182517238517From past podcasts, Jay and Ryanne do not put their store on vacation mode because it prevents sales during that time and the visibility of listings is slow to come back.
lbt606 is saying that that doesn’t happen. He/she is able to continue selling while in vacation mode.
I’m confused now. Is there a better way?

I confirmed with eBay, and Letter does not include tracking.
Wow, that was fast! Thanks! I did see this one, but, for some reason, thought it wasn’t right. I’ll take a closer look.
Also – Jay mentioned in a previous podcast about an “if-then” website, or something like that. It is a site where you can say IF x is listed on Craigslist and is within y miles of my home, THEN notify me via email.
What was that site? I tried to google it, but I didn’t see anything that looked right.
Week of Apr 23 – 30
* Total Items in Store: 753
* Items Sold: 13
* Cost of Items Sold: $41.04 + $0 Commission
* Total Sales: $270
* Highest Price Sold: $42 Brass Barometer
* Average Price Sold: $20.77
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $20
* Number of items listed this week: about 35It was an average week for me, but very inconsistent. Sunday and Tuesday I had no sales, but Wednesday I had four. Weird.
COGS is a little high because $25 were two items we owned.
I went to an auction of mostly new items on Tuesday. They sell overstocks, refused shipments, returns, etc. I keep going, but never buying anything. They sell stuff by the piece, so if there is 100 items in a lot and the bid is $2 each, then the total is $200 plus buyer’s premium. So, I have to decide whether it is something I can sell and make good money on, then I have decide the max price I’m willing to bid and make sure that I can obtain the correct amount of cash to pay, and, lastly, I have to determine if I have enough room to store the items. So, I hesitate at bidding. I’m planning on selling low cost/low interest items at a flea market next weekend, so I’ll have more room. My goal is to make room so that I can actually buy something at the next one. These auctions happen every one to two months.
I did buy a 10 volume set at my local library’s book sale called The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia published in 1899 & 1900. Two of the books have issues and, in general, there is wear, but the pages are still in good condition. I’m working on listing them now.
