Last year, I was using the bin at my local post office to ship items. At the beginning of this year, I mailed a book using the bin, and no information showed up about it for 9 days. I’m guessing that it got lost somewhere in the regional center or accidentally was left on the truck for a few days. Another possibility is that someone decided to inspect the package to make sure it was actually media mail.
Thankfully, the seller was OK with the delay, but it ended up counting against me. Since then, I stand in the line to make sure my items are scanned right away. I use the scan sheets to help out the cashiers. They know me pretty well, so I guess that is a good thing if I ever have an issue.
To get the scan sheet, you need to buy labels for all your items at once (except for international), and you have to check the box that you want a scan sheet prior to paying and printing out the labels. When you go to print out labels, you can print out the scan sheet as well.
The link is to a YouTube video demonstrating the working condition of the sewing machine. I believe that is still allowable via ebay’s new policies. I figured I’d get an email if there was an issue, but I haven’t. I think you should be able to link to your video as well.

* Total Items in Store: 1143
* Items Sold: 13
* Cost of Items Sold: $7.40 + $16.25 Commission
* Total Sales: $247.93
* Highest Price Sold: $39 Vintage Hurricane style lamp
* Average Price Sold: $19.07
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $90
* Number of items listed this week: 23Kind of a crappy week compared to the last two, but I’m seeing a higher number of sales this week so far. Things are looking up!
I really don’t want to buy much right now, but one of the online auctions had some good stuff. I ended up spending $90. I am going to a live auction on Thursday. Thankfully, their December auction is on a Saturday, so I won’t be able to go. On the other hand, the following Sunday is a rummage sale literally down the road from me. Oh well. I’d like to see if I can go the rest of the year without spending too much on inventory. I can only hope. I’ve got a backlog, and I’ve got death piles.
Regarding Amazon Prime. I signed up for the free month a few years ago when I was late in buying some holiday gifts, then I cancelled. However, my dad has prime. So, whenever I need something quickly (or I don’t have enough to add up to free shipping), I’ll use his account. I found that I need to select my address at the very end and not on the side when I’m about to put something in my cart. I did that once, and, the next time my dad went to buy something, he left my address in and it was shipped to me. Otherwise, it works out, and I think my sister uses it as well.
I have a sewing machine for sale in a similar situation. The brand is “Imperial”. It might also be a private label, but I wasn’t able to trace it down. I could only find maybe one similar machine on ebay and had to look at other other websites.
I priced it high (I think) with best offer. I currently have it on sale as well. You can check it out if you want:

11/10/2017 at 1:24 pm in reply to: Paypal would not let me refund money on returns – got 3 negative feedbacks #25391If I sell more than one item to a buyer at a time, I find that their positive feedback only gets counted once. So, even if they give positive feedback for each item, my feedback counter goes up by only one.
I would think that the same thing should happen for negative feedback. It wouldn’t really be fair if negative feedback from one shipment would count three times when a positive feedback would count only once. If your rating was affected by three negatives, you could use that argument with ebay. I’m not saying that I’ve ever used that argument or that it will work, but you could try.
Anyway, Jay’s advice is good – just move on. However, block her from ever buying from you again. I’m not sure how you get to the blocked buyers list from account settings, but see if this link works for you:
http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?bidderblocklogin&hc=1&hm=eog4d71f%2B1%3Af4Me three! I’m doing the same as Doublythumbs and saving as a draft. When I reopen it, it all works out fine. ebay is probably doing some of its famous coding on the fly!
11/09/2017 at 8:50 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Schott jacket, Pin Up vignettes, Steering Wheel, TV VCR Combo, Walkman, Ham Radio #25323That’s right – it’s LRL. I messed that up in my writeup. Initially, I thought it was just personalized glasses, but I’m thinking “why have the initials on the bottom?”.
Mike,
Weight is one factor, but distance is another. I agree that flat rate is somewhat useless, and I rarely use it. However, if someone in CA, OR, PR, etc., wants to buy something relatively heavy from me in NJ, then flat rate may make sense.
Here is a listing for 6 glass bead placemats – the package weighed 6-7 pounds.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182363880386She lived in Wisconsin and paid a bit over $18 for shipping. A medium flat rate box ended being the best fit. The Regional A box was too small, and the B was more money than med flat rate because of the distance.
For the padded flat rate envelope, I find that many small items, even just over 1 pound, will ship for $7.20 anywhere in the US. The price may still be $7.20 non flat rate priority shipping within my zone, but anywhere outside of my zone and the price starts to go up.
Just saying, there is a place for the flat rate boxes. Now, the small flat rate box, I don’t think I’ve ever used one.
11/08/2017 at 8:16 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Schott jacket, Pin Up vignettes, Steering Wheel, TV VCR Combo, Walkman, Ham Radio #25301I had a pretty good week, so I’ve got lots to talk about.
I bought this binding machine with spines & covers at a yard sale for $5. I thought that it would be a long tail item, but it sold in about five weeks for $59.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182772341665This 23 piece lusterware tea set has lingered in my basement for over a year. Finally got an offer of $51, and I just wanted it out of my house. I had originally pre-packed way back when, and I didn’t think to re-pack it except to add some extra bubblewrap. The buyer messaged me with a photo showing two pieces had broke in transit, the sugar and one of the saucers. He said he wanted replacement pieces. So, I offered to sell him my a similar set (but without a sugar) for the reduced price of $25. He didn’t want the second set, and I somehow ended up refunding him $26 so that his original price ended up as $25. Damn it! Anyway, I’m working through the FedEx insurance claim. I paid about $13 for it. I’m more careful about buying china these days.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182356204143I was cleaning up a closet making room for ebay stuff, when I ran into a Nappa Valley CD holder. It was my husband’s, but we had bought something bigger at Ikea years ago. I’ve seen Steve and others make out well on these, so I cleaned it up and sold it in two days for $50.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182860584022I’ve had this new wallet for about a year. I think it took a while to sell because I had listed it kind of high due to the brand name (Neiman Marcus). Bought for $1, sold for $31.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182309833314I bought this vintage portrait plate at auction last month for about $0.75. I didn’t think much of it, but I was surprised when I looked similar items up on ebay. It sold in a few days for $28.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182831168435This set of 6 drinking glasses was given to me by friends of my parents. I saw the initials “RLL” on the bottom of two of them. I’m not sure what the extra L is for, but they ended up being Ralph Lauren crystal glasses that I sold for $70.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182867512116I bought an auction lot of Asian cooking and kitchen ware a few months ago. I’ve sold only one other item so far. I was thrilled that someone bought two of these bowl sets for $41.50 total. They’re on their way to Oregon. Paid about $1.25 each set.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182764951542I didn’t find anything terribly interesting in this golf print, but I figured golfers are usually pretty enthusiastic about their sport. I bought it in an online auction lot with other prints for the minimum bid. I paid about $0.20, sold for $36.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182795703975Sounds like some work, but worth it. Hopefully, you can sell the second one to someone who has the treadle, but their sewing machine broke.
According to Amatino’s post, she was told that the sewing machine works well, so that’s good news!
The only thing about taking it apart is that the motor portion (or whatever the wheel thing does) appears to be connected directly to the table and is not part of the main sewing machine (unless I’m not seeing it correctly). Plus the on/off switch appears to be part of the table as well. If that is true, then the machine will need the table to work properly.
So, according to Amatino’s gifter friend and Icequeen’s comments, this machine will be worth something to someone.
Here is one with a table that sold on ebay for $195 with local pickup:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SINGER-211G165-Walking-Foot-Lockstitch-Industrial-Sewing-Machine/182823740659?hash=item2a9124e4f3:g:8SoAAOSwJ59Z2p31I’m not a sewing machine expert, but the darker machine looks industrial – like something make for a business and not necessarily for the home. I’m assuming it is mounted to the table, which would make it 300 pounds. You could do local pickup or look into the freight options that Jay has been talking about. Because portions of it are connected directly to the table, I don’t think you can free it up.
The lighter colored one looks like it could be shipped separately.
11/06/2017 at 4:48 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 333: The Illusion of Keeping Up With Everything #25163Yes, Steve, I don’t get it either. The Gruen I have doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, although, it is nice. The whole message was kind of interesting though in terms of the warning. I wonder if this will be something that gets expanded to other brand names, specifically ones that are in the VERO program.
Link?
I’m sure it had nothing to do with his business acumen.
