Ah, yes, how nice it would be, but I’m afraid it’s probably……(with a nod to Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle)
I’d probably leave off the gay angle. Big Cocks in this case are big male ringneck pheasants or other game birds, by the look of the cap.
WOW! I think we all live for finds like that, but most of us will never see one LOL—-great job! In this biz, luck is one part opportunity, and one part preparation: knowing the value of something when you see it, wherever you see it!
Be happy to help, but I’m not seeing what it is you want looked up?
Just had time for a quick skim. Kind of disappointed to see most of the questions had nothing to do with the product catalog/personalization strategy. I know it’s “ask me anything” but I was hoping people would see it as an opportunity to learn more about that stuff, rather than ask a lot of more general ebay questions.
Still, it was interesting, thanks for posting this!
Thanks Jay! Looking forward to reading this!
I’m not too familiar with reddit, the link just takes me to a picture of the guy holding a sign. How do I access the actual content?
Just in that category.

It is hard to make apples to apples comparisons when you aren’t selling apples, you are selling fruit cocktail LOL I think it is also why so many of the “improvements” ebay has been making don’t impact us in the way intended. A lot of ebay’s changes—such as price guidance, best match formulas, etc, are based on a commodity, regular retail model….and while our businesses are certainly similar to that model, the fact that we mostly sell one offs and that our inventory is so varied…well, that’s a huge difference.
I remember years ago, I read the first book about ebay that wasn’t basically an “ebay for dummies” book. I think it was called something like eBay Strategies…it was by the founder of Channel Adviser. For me, it was a real eye opener….he made a lot of good business suggestions. BUT….I realized that very few of them could be adapted to MY business, because they were aimed at commodity sellers.
We’re just a different breed, and I do think eBay has never really figured out just where we fit.
Definitely agree with Jay that most Ts aren’t fast sellers. But they can be bought cheap, they are easy to ship, and, while they do take up some room, they aren’t huge space hogs.
Some things I look for:
1. Older ringer Ts.
2. Concert Ts, especially rock, metal, etc. Generally I don’t look for Country, but I haven’t really studied that market.
3. Don’t neglect kid’s Ts, especially if they might be big enough to fit a really petite teen or 20 something.
4. Harley Davidson.
5. Life Is Good. Not sure the market is as strong for these as it once was, but if I can get em cheap enough…
6. OLD Ts. These can even be plain white.
7. I look for stuff with cross over appeal, stuff that might appeal to more than one collecting/buying interest.
8. Older pop culture, political, advertising from places like amusement parks, restaurants, etc.
9. Sizes? Generally, the larger the better, but if its got great graphics or some other strong selling point, I’ll buy smaller sizes. BUT if I only have a few minutes at a thrift and the Ts are sorted by size, I start with the largest first. That’s it for now….
I saw most of it. Don’t think they really answered the missing views/watchers issue. They indicated the missing pic issue has been resolved, but I gather by that he meant that, going forward, new GTC renewals are properly showing the photos. Sounds like they are still working on bringing back the missing photos.
I almost never listen live. You can select segments to listen to later, and if you download those you can pretty much skip through the commercials.
Once they start the podcast, I’m pretty sure that will all be in house, so I’m guessing no ads….probably more like their Facebook videos…
Jay, You’re pretty much describing the Thursday radio show….Tuesdays the show features guests speaking on various topics with some call ins, but Thursday’s show has always been devoted to call ins. Not sure it cuts down too heavily on CS calls, because most people who call CS probably never listen to the show.
I’m not sure the podcasts will be designed to answer call in type questions, I suspect they will more likely center around a guest and a particular topic.
But that’s just a guess.

Yes, some have strict rules, but in my area those are mostly the newer (and usually smaller) farmers markets targeting a younger, affluent, more “socially conscious” market, and usually found in a more urban or suburban locale. The old established markets around here are usually a mix of farmers market and flea market without a whole lot of rules, and the target market is mostly anyone who wants to eat….whether they want to eat healthy or not LOL
