scott2, You could sell plans for those on ebay….very nice!
Meant to add to that: I THINK the 21 days they mention in the Announcement is 21 days for the buyer to actually put the return package in the mail, not for it to get back to you.
I haven’t seen this behavior. But I tend to agree with Jay, I think we are getting some buyers who have been buying on Amazon and other sites where free shipping may be the norm.
Sharyn,
I’m guessing its not about growing the food, its about buying the products to grow food in a B&M store.I agree with Jay. And I’d go further: pretty sure that’s an ebay rule violation. If you give someone a courtesy upgrade, that’s fine. (Buyer paid for 1st Class, but you ship via Priority). But you can’t downgrade, even if you are confident that the item will get there as quickly.
As a buyer, I wouldn’t be too happy either, because it would feel like I was deliberately cheated in the Make An Offer negotiations….the buyer was willing to pay what he paid based on Priority dollar amount as part of his total. By shipping First Class (at a lesser amount) it ends up looking like you ultimately accepted the offer because you knew you’d make up for it on the shipping.
Just for future reference: I would not do that again. You’re asking for trouble.
04/13/2020 at 12:10 pm in reply to: eBay Repricer “StreetPricer” – Did anybody get the invite? #76201As I said, the repricer indicates which of your items it will work with. So:
No, it won’t be disastrous with most old stuff, because it won’t apply to most old stuff.
ebay’s suggested prices are just that…ebay’s suggested prices. Useful for some things, useless for others. This is 3rd party software, not ebay. And basically you set a range for prices. List something at $50, don’t want it to go below $45? You can set the parameters.
Repricing software like this has been around for years, and ebay sellers already use repricing software. Again, it really isn’t much use for most of us because we don’t sell the stuff it is designed to handle.
Ryanne: We need to start a write-in campaign! Of course, I guess first, we need to become shareholders so we can vote.
Jay, I’m not so sure about that. Jordan Sweetnam worked at ebay, then WalMart, and has come back to eBay pushing for more emphasis on the hard to find type stuff we sell. In his case, his experience at WalMart really convinced him that ebay is a different animal. I suspect we may see the same viewpoint with the new CEO. I do NOT expect that ebay will cut loose all commodity sellers and their stuff…. but I do think we’ll see a new emphasis on our kind of stuff….
04/13/2020 at 9:06 am in reply to: eBay Repricer “StreetPricer” – Did anybody get the invite? #76176From what I’ve read, the first thing it will do is go through your listings and tell you which ones are eligible for the repricing. A Jay noted, that will mostly be new stuff with UPCs. I didn’t get the invitation, but if I did, I’d play around with it. I doubt it would help me on most of my stuff….maybe books with ISBNs, but most of my stuff is older….
Jay, It’s political and cash strapped because the GOP has long wanted to privatize it completely, and it looks like they are seeing an opportunity to do that now.
The article doesn’t explain why Trump does not want to help the PO, but I admit, this doesn’t bode well for us as sellers who depend heavily on USPS (Better Half and I only use USPS). When this was originally brought up, I figured a bail out was kind of a slam dunk, given the importance of the USPS to the infrastructure of the country……have to admit, I’m a bit more worried now.
This question comes up fairly often, and it really comes down to: do what you want to do. I include a packing slip for three reasons: 1. As others have noted, if label is damaged or lost, it gives the PO a delivery address. 2. I always add a handwritten thanks on the slip, and in some cases, a longer note where appropriate. 3. As a buyer, I prefer if a packing slip is included.
In over 20 years of doing this, I’ve never had anyone complain because I included a packing slip. But as Vintage Treasures says, she’s never had a complaint about the lack of a slip, either.
Oh, a fourth reason, that probably doesn’t apply to most of us, since most of us don’t have repeat buyers. But if you are trying to build a repeat business and a brand, it provides an opportunity to get your brand out in front of people.
ebay doesn’t require one. I could be wrong, but I think technically Amazon does require one, but I can’t imagine they actually enforce the rule. So, just do whatever you are comfortable with.
Gopher Jim,
Looks like you may be using a smart phone to take your photos. I think most phones have a 1 : 1 setting so you can take square photos…generally speaking, they are better for ebay.I asked on this week’s Weekly Chat, as did someone else. I specifically asked for more guidance, and they said they’d pass my request on….which sometimes results in a response, and sometimes means my request is destined for a black hole at ebay.
One thing I took away from the chat: If you are listing brand new stuff, of ANY type (does NOT have to be an “essential”) , they might look at the MSRP and if your price is more than double that, the item might be taken down.
The guidance they’ve given us is so general as to be near useless. And I’m not sure that will change. You can (supposedly) contest these take downs, but if you have plenty of other inventory, I’d probably just focus on listing that.
