Welcome! I think scavenging and selling on eBay would be a great thing to do in retirement. Gets you out of the house on adventures, plus you make money.
I dont think we’ll ever retire (since we don’t have proper jobs), but I’m glad to know I can just continue this lifestyle as long as I want. If I ever get bored, we just mix up the items we scavenge and sell.
Welcome Jenessa. Having goals has ben really important to us because it keeps us motivated and helps us not see eBay as a grind. Your husband is lucky having you help him pay off his $200k student loan!
Ha. Might be something a person wold buy as a prop, but I’m pretty sure those are custom made to each particular person.
–Do you have searches out for specific items?
–How long do you spend each day going through the categories each day?
–Have you ever low balled a seller and had it fail where the guy walks away? What kind of items do you sell specifically at antique shows instead of eBay? Do you make more money? or is it things like furniture that is difficult to ship?
I’m stumped. The subscription works for me. As you read on that link, that’s the function of it.
I’ll mention it on the next podcast to see if others are getting the emails if they subscribed. Be good to get more data points.
Two things:
–check your spam folder if you havent already. We’ve had some members say that emails were there.
–if it still isnt working, create a new user. See if that works for you. This is super fascinating. I’m glad people are sharing with each other but it doesn’t sound very profitable. I assume there might be different groups that deal in higher dollar items.
Welcome Tim. Sounds like you guys have a plan that you’re putting into action. If you just put in the hours into your eBay business that you wold into a seasonal job, I don;t see why you won’t make at least the same amount.
Auctions and estate sales are fun and can lead to some good deals. Remember that it’s always free to attend and do research.
Your experience is valid. Our month has been steady so far but nothing crazy. When will people buy again? Not sure. We did just get done with a pretty historic election with a very possibly unstable next four years. People are waiting to see.
That being said, feel free to post your store if you’d like some feedback.
Try posting again. I pulled you out of our spam blocker. Just post any image that ends in .jpg.
That’s interesting.
–How much do you charge for a house clean out.
–What kind of people/situations do you deal with?
–How much trash are you hauling away? This is a great point of view. I was wondering if the hassle of CL keeps it from being a solid platform to really make money on.
When I buy or sell things on CL, it’s definitely a much more labor intensive process. Lots of flaky people who are bad communicators.
But we’ve also gotten incredible deals on CL that was worth the hassle. Seems to make more sense of big expensive items rather than trying to use it as a daily place of sourcing and selling.
Understood. If you enjoy the job, are well-treated, and paid fairly, what’s not to like?
Very interesting.
–Why are these buyers wary of eBay? Especially if they could buy the books cheaper there?
–How do you sell on these groups without letting them know you’re a reseller?
–Are there places to sell on Facebook that allow resellers?Welcome John. In our travels in England and Ireland, I can agree that the small charity shops don’t have much inventory.
Couple questions:
–Why do you think some charity hasn’t borrowed the American idea of opening up a huge thrift store? Surely England must have a glut of unwanted items to fill a supermarket sized store.
–Is the idea of “thrifting” or buying second hand items not a popular thing in England? Is the general public embarrassed about buying old items?
–From what I understand, car boot sales occur when people drive to a field and sell out of their cars. (we’d call this a flea market). Does anyone sell old items in their front yard where its more convenient? If not, why not? Is it illegal or just frowned upon? -
