When I was 15, I bought a bright yellow fiat with cash I saved over two summers. My father told me it was a dumb idea but I didn’t care.
The car turned into a money pit and never ran well. I finally sold it for scrap for $400. I never wasted money on expensive dumb stuff again.

How did you make that $3700?
Were there other high dollar items than the $750 turntable?11/14/2016 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 284: Where did you learn about money? #5800Glad you made it over Paulo!
You can ship freight, but you have to be wiling to do the preparation. Go to your local freight company and find out their requirements.
When we looked into, they wanted us to put furniture strapped on wood pallets, wrapped in blankets or heavy plastic wrap. It seemed like a lot of work. We don’t have any furniture expensive enough to make it worth our time.
As Ryanne said, local pick up has done us well.
We drove through Cumming, Georgia last week on the way to Atlanta.
That’s awesome about the domestic caffinated tea. Why dont you think it’s become more popular? Seems like a great local crop?
Welcome. I think its great to have a job/career you love. I see scavenging as a way to transition to the next thing if you ever need/want to.
I appreciate this info. Do you use similar titles that you do on eBay? or is there a different style?
This is smart. We like to hire people to do jobs quickly that would take us a long time to do.
And if you sold the lamp with “AS IS” in the title, then eBay should back you up since you didn’t promise it’d work.

I love the idea of a parent sitting down with their kid and being open about the finances each week. I can’t think of a better way to teach a kid about money.
In the US, we seem very scared/shy/embarrassed to talk about money with the people closest to us. We always want “everything to be okay” and not show that it’s a daily struggle to juggle a family’s finances.
11/14/2016 at 6:33 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 284: Where did you learn about money? #5736I think any of the Tv and radio personalities who teach people to not overspend and save money are positive.
I’ve watched Suze and it’s funny to hear the people asking if it’s smart to buy luxury items that they cant afford.

The fact that we can make money scavenging feels about the most honest way I’ve ever earned it. And the fact that we can all share info so we can each make money is even better for us.
I like the idea that there’s abundance to share vs a scarcity to fight over.
Glad you have you join us here. It’s fun to follow your adventures now that you’re a full-time scavenger. And yes, being self-motivated and creating your own schedule is the challenge. Work hard but go easy on yourself.
Here’s the conversation we recorded with Faith: http://www.scavengerlife.com/2015/09/scavenger-life-episode-218-faith-aka.html
I’ve noticed this too. It is annoying. I see what we can do about it.
One workaround is to make sure you;re logged in before you start commenting. It’s so important to at least get support from your partner, even if they arent in the tranches with you. I bet he enjoys the money you make!
