Thats a good suggestion. Since phones are so cheap now, we use an iPhone 4 just as a camera and photo uploader for eBay. It stays safe and clean, instead of in our pockets.
These phones are really cheap, especially if you get the 8GB. You could also just buy an iPod touch. All wifi anyway.

We re-listed our entire inventory as new items over the summer: http://www.scavengerlife.com/2016/07/scavenger-life-episode-266-maybe-ebay.html
Result?
No bounce in sales. None. Nothing. Zero.I’m glad we tried it, but I think if you list unique, quirky, vintage items (aka “long tail” items), you have to have patience. Good news is the stuff is cheap to buy, does sell, and makes an incredible profit. It just takes time.
If you want fast turn over, buy and sell extremely popular things. This is what Amazon sellers do. They also pay huge money for their inventory and their profits are often fairly small, making up for it only in volume.
So pick your strategy and live it.

I’m so impressed that your sales continue to be solid. Making $3-4k a week can really give you the cash to make things happen. Buy property, invest, start another business, pay off debt quickly.
12/06/2016 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 287: How Is the Holiday Selling Season for You? #7425It’s really dealer’s choice. he asked the question and you said you couldn’t guarantee that the bottom is even. If he buys it and is unhappy, then he can;t say you didn’t tell him. You were honest.
For us, it’s all about how they wrote messages. if they seem reasonable, we assume people have good intentions. If the message is oozing with anxiety and suspicion, we choose not to do business.
12/06/2016 at 3:58 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 287: How Is the Holiday Selling Season for You? #7414How many items are you selling each week to make $3,200 to $4,400?
What is your average sale price?

12/06/2016 at 1:46 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 287: How Is the Holiday Selling Season for You? #7363I think it started when the “weight & pay” or Goodwill outlets began popping up.
I remember it was about three years ago when we noticed them opening up everywhere. There have always been sellers who could find ways to buy clothing in wholesale or by the pallet. But these specialized sellers. The Weight & Pay shops have not democratized wholesale clothing to everyone.
I think this is one reason for the glut.

Sellers who can last it out will win.12/06/2016 at 1:01 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 287: How Is the Holiday Selling Season for You? #7354We make decent profits on the clothes we sell, but we just don’t sell clothes quickly in volume. It’s a nice side stream of income in addition to all the other stuff we sell.
As you said, there’s a glut on the market. We know of a local eBay seller who starts all clothes on one week auctions at $20. Any clothes that don’t sell get listed for BIN at $3 or $5. If they don’t sell after a month, the clothes are sold for $1.50. They also pay people to photograph, list, and pack. No idea how they make money.
I assume many sellers like this will burn themselves out. I don’t see how it’s sustainable.
12/06/2016 at 12:27 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 287: How Is the Holiday Selling Season for You? #7330This is great information. We’ll test out that app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/completely-pro-completed-listings/id777208482?mt=8Are your net profits declining as more people get into the market?
Or are you just selling more volume?
Maybe looking for higher end clothing? You can live with negative feedback. Your store will still be successful. As long as you don;t have a steady stream of negatives because of bad practices. You’ve just had a grumpy buyer.
No matter what we’ve done, we always have at least one negative and one neutral every year. It’s just the cost of doing business. Those sellers who have perfect records all the time are incredible!
That being said, just keep asking for that negative to be removed each time you call eBay. You’ll find the right customer service rep who will do you a solid.
I’d also like to hear about what those 64 items are like.
We’ve mentioned buying used military lots and the quality was hit or miss.
We had several pallets of almost new items which was a goldmine.
But we’ve also had several pallets of stuff that almost useless. We’re still selling it off for low low prices!12/06/2016 at 11:58 am in reply to: Once case is opened the buyer has how many days to return? #7321If a buyer is nice and communicating clearly, we’ll always bend over backwards. We always give time to ship back, pay later, give partial refunds etc.
But for buyers who enter the room angry, we just go by ebay’s rules.
Agreed. We can always find items to sell at Thrift Stores. The only caveat is that we often have to visit many of them to get a good amount of inventory. Or visit the same one on a regular basis.
Auctions are nice because you can get carloads of stuff in one evening.
12/06/2016 at 11:55 am in reply to: Once case is opened the buyer has how many days to return? #7319Correct. The message I pasted says “Buyers are instructed to ship their original items back to you within 5 business days of opening the request. “.
You actually have to call eBay to have the return closed. There is no automatic closing with a push of a button. But its worth the call to get it done.
