Go on the first day. Buy anything you think is really cool and will sell for big money. Take note of everything you may want but is too expensive.
Then go the last day when it’s closing. The prices will often be 75% off. (or more)
Don;t forget to dig in the corners. Down in the basement or attics (photos, slides, ??). Go into the bathroom cabinet and medicine chest (perfume, glasses). Kitchen drawers often have knife sets.
Remember that the house is no longer occupied. It’s all being sold. You aren’t being nosy. The family wants everything gone. They’ve already come and stripped the house for what they wanted. Have fun!
12/08/2016 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Customer wants artwork removed from frame for shipping… Jay & Ryanne did this? #7651If the buyer requests that you remove the frame in an eBay message, this covers you.
When you did this for a buyer, they left us bad feedback because they didn’t like how the previous owner cut the print to fit in the frame. eBay backed us up because the buyer asked us to alter the item from the original listing.
If you’re going through healthcare.gov, just estimate the best you can. When you file taxes, there’s a form you fill out that reconciles what you thought you;d make and what income you actually declared. You’ll then pay more or less based on that number.
Glad you;re going on a long fun trip. We just put extra time into listing before we go. Fill up that pipeline!
That’s a good list. I look forward to hearing how your taxes go this year. Isn’t this your first time doing taxes with eBay income? The key is to have all your expenses easily tallied.
I wish more scavengers would be patient on eBay. But I guess that’s the free market. If someone is willing to sell an item for less, that’s their right.
We keep all our clothing and delicate items inside climate controlled areas. Sealed from the outside.
Our outside sheds just hold “hard goods”. The mice and snakes can fight it out in those sheds.
I’d say that 90% of the art we find either has no signature or was done by an unknown artist. Unless there’s a signature you can research, I assume this may be one of those.
You may also need to open up the back of the frame and see if there’s any more info.
Sounds like you have the experience of eBay, now just put in the work! Look forward to seeing you around here.
Welcome Will! We love when people have jobs they love. Not every job is bad. Glad you’ve had fun scavenging. It’s something that grows on you as you go down the rabbit hole.
Just curious: why do you love your job so much. Can you describe what makes a job fun to go to?
12/07/2016 at 7:00 am in reply to: Ebay Shipping Information, Statistics and New Freight Program #7457That’s why I like how eBay lets you search by lowest price (item + shipping). That search gives you the best price (if price is how you’re buying).
But as I always say, free shipping is usually geared towards items with heavy competition.
That’s it!
12/07/2016 at 5:53 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 287: How Is the Holiday Selling Season for You? #7450Just curious. What are you doing with all your eBay money? Between that and your part time job, it sounds like you have a good amount of cash lying around?
12/07/2016 at 5:39 am in reply to: Ebay Shipping Information, Statistics and New Freight Program #7449How man buyers are out there that only buy items with free shipping regardless of cost? I say its a small number because it certainly seems like a crazy way to buy.
I guess the only way to know is if someone here was willing to put put free shipping on all their items, but make their items MORE expensive even with shipping costs.
You guys are obviously pros. Going debt free is the way to go. A great goal.
We recorded a conversation with another couple in Chicago who sell find and sell clothes:
Scavenger Life Episode 216: Can I Make Money Selling on Etsy?
Do you know them by chance?
Maybe we all do a meet up this Spring when we visit.12/06/2016 at 9:00 pm in reply to: Ebay Shipping Information, Statistics and New Freight Program #7436I’d love to hear about your experiment. I wonder if the people in that Facebook group only buy items with Free Shipping regardless of the price. If you do a search for a particular item, I find that the item with free shipping is almost always equal to an item with shipping. It’s just a semantics game.
$10 free shipping
$8 plus $2 shippingOn Amazon, I find that Amazon Prime items are often MORE expensive even though the items have free shipping. It’s better to buy merchant fulfilled even though you pay extra for shipping.
The only difference is if the seller actually chooses to lose money on the deal.
Then that’s a real reason to buy that item. A better deal.Who cares about free shipping if it’s not cheaper?
