So I just got back from being away the past 4 days and went to change my handling time. Apparently eBay is tinkering with item specifics because 2,400ish of my items have errors with size/color and cannot be changed without being manually fixed. WTH? So I guess I’m sticking with 2 day handling time for awhile.
-
10/15/2019 at 12:34 pm #69046
Me too!!!!! And I had 10 day handling set š
Changed the ones that would let me. -

I’m on a listing marathon this week and the new item specifics for clothing, at least as of today are a bit of a mess. I don’t even want to think about the flustercuck it will be if I were to change my handling time anytime soon. Why do they do this?!

Also seller hub shows no sales for us Saturday until now.
-

I’m not seeing anything, but then most of my items are eBay Motors which has had required item specifics for quite some time.

Check this discussion out: https://www.scavengerlife.com/forums/topic/optiseller-3rd-party-tool-to-help-identify-listings-with-missing-item-specifics/#post-69075 . Ebay has an app: https://www.optiseller.com/landingpage-aspect-finder-usa
If the tool works and is accurate, at least you can find out in advance before trying to change the handling time, etc.

PS: I looked at the OptiSeller page and I would say “buyer beware”. Be sure you know what you’re signing up for.

are they new item specifics that didn’t exist when you first listed them? or just fields you didnt fill out because they werent required?
-
10/16/2019 at 6:42 am #69102
The size field has been duplicated. So the original one that we all used is no longer valid. It makes no sense. And dress and skirt length have been added with the options such as short, long, midi etc. This is useless and will open the doors to INADS because a very tall person wearing a “knee length” skirt would be wearing a mini and a petite person wearing the same skirt or dress will be wearing a midi. It’s completely subjective. So for a huge chunk of my listings I have to go back in each listing and add the new size field. Oh, and color is now required. I hate that too because some colors don’t fit neatly in color categories. There are blue/greens that are neither blue or green but a combination of both. Same with olive brown.

This isn’t the first time they’ve revised the skirt/dress length field. Each time they revise it, it screws up my listings that already had that field completed. They keep changing the names of the lengths and removing some of the options. So, naturally in the past when I try to change the handling times on those listings, they get kicked out and I have to go in and change each one. I’m not optimistic that Ebay will get all of these new item specific errors resolved.
1 more issue with the item specifics I noticed is as of yesterday there was no longer the option to add my own item specific. I like to add one for Style number but I couldn’t do that yesterday so I’d instead place it in the MPN field.
I also noticed that now there is a Department field where we can select Womens Mens Childrens. Makes me wonder if they are going to be changing the categories because otherwise this seems like an unnecessary field.

A message on eBay says they are aware of the problems and working on them. A friend of mine called eBay and they told her the same thing. That the size issue is an error and will be fixed. Hopefully that is true, I have 800 that say they need to be fixed.
-
10/16/2019 at 8:30 am #69107
Im looking at our active listings that includes lots of clothes. Where are you seeing eBay tell you that a listing needs updating?
-
10/16/2019 at 8:39 am #69108
If you go into bulk editor and bulk edit 500 at a time, click on any clothing item and see if there is a size that is blank. Keep doing that all the way through your clothing and shoe listings. Disregard if there is an exclamation point. This is an issue for almost all of my listings.
-
10/16/2019 at 8:44 am #69112
Understood. Still trying to understand the issue. With these clothing listings that now have missing fields, have they been de-listed? What if you dont fill out then missing fields?
-
10/16/2019 at 9:02 am #69115
The Facebook thread discussing this had the following from one of the poster’s who called Ebay concierge this morning,
“Here is the rest of what he told me. Ebay is still working to fix the remaining parts of the glitch. He agreed with me that is absurd to do this in Q4. (I asked him to pass along my utter frustration with the timing) Now moving forward if a listing has item specific ‘violations’ (my word not his) then a buyer will get a warning. You then will have a week to fix the issue. If it’s not fixed in that week, ebay hides that listing until it’s fixed. This is what they said at ebay open, so he was just repeating the new policy.”So I guess that means if ebay can’t transfer over the required item specifics that they deleted when they created new item specific fields, we will have to fix each one or potentially have the listings hidden.

They will not relist when it’s time to renew due to the errors. They are unsearchable right now. I had a $45 day yesterday and $40 the day before. I sell hundreds per day. This is crippling.

Other than the Ebay glitch showing youāve made less than you have, are sales really being impacted right now? I had 10 ebay sales yesterday, but none so far this morning. Itās still early, so Iām sure sales will come soon.

I see it from the Seller Hub page on eBay. Very bottom right corner under the āGrowthā heading…it says āInvalid / Missing product identifiersā. Out of 2900 items it says I have just under 800 in this list. Iām doing other work through today so canāt really mess with it until tomorrow. But apparently eBay is correcting the size issue.
-
10/16/2019 at 9:31 am #69119
I guess this issue hasn’t hit us yet. We only had one item in the āInvalid / Missing product identifiersā on the Growth page. It was a book that needed an ISBN number.
None of our clothes are having issues yet.
-
10/16/2019 at 1:26 pm #69141
I have a “0” in this column. I fear that this is their fix. They just remove the error and not fix the issue like so many previous poorly implemented and unannounced changes. We’re going to have to manually change everything and now won’t even have a tool to tell us where the issues are…
I just checked a few random listings. I can confirm they haven’t fixed a damn thing. EVERY clothing item has had the size item specific you had filled out shifted down to the new “additional items” area and a brand new REQUIRED size entry that is blank. Also the Color is REQUIRED and blank.
UGh….I think I’m gonna be sick…
-
10/16/2019 at 2:21 pm #69146
Many of my shoes as well…the required size is blank and required, while my original size and width entries are shifted to the additional items.
The weird thing is the new size specific is just “size”. No association to the country or womens/childrens/mens/etc.

eBay says it’s resolved. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/RESOLVED-Technical-issues-reported-in-Seller-Hub-and-listings-in/ba-p/30327634
Not sure if it has sorted out your problem, AtomicStar. It sucks when eBay screws with your income!
-
10/16/2019 at 11:10 am #69122
The Seller Hub sales graph issue is not resolved. If anything, it seems to have gotten worse since last night. It originally only showed 3 days of incorrect data; now, it goes back to at least last Thursday.

I was just revising a used cassette tape and has a bunch of required item specifics to fill in regarding the condition of the cassette, the case, the inlay etc etc etc.
I’m sure glad these are the changes we asked for.
-
10/16/2019 at 11:34 am #69128
OK so I just tried to edit in bulk my first 500 items.
I get this weird error when processing that says this:Review alerts
Some of your listings cannot be processed (see below).
Item #264393040838 – Izod Classic Fit Mens 16-16.5 32 Shirt Blue White Check Plaid Long Sleeve Button
Invalid user: 14614087
Item #264413791017 – Polo Ralph Lauren Men Cotton Blue Pants Size 36×30 Classic Fit
Invalid user: 14614087When I click “ok” and move on to the list of 500, it won’t load properly.
Just a bunch of spinning wheels where the line items should be. The list of issues at the top is kind of loading and there are some red exclamation point errors about item specifics missing.Long story short, things are most definitely not resolved.
I’m getting really tired of the unannounced changes and “improvements” ebay has been doing. They used to be real good about announcing changes in advance.
-
10/16/2019 at 11:38 am #69131
Sometimes, if I get some type of weird error or systems error when revising, I just change the price by a penny and it resolves.
-
10/16/2019 at 11:50 am #69133
Also of note, I was listing clothing last night and the new item specifics they are adding are dumb and repetitive.
What is the point of the “department”? I’m already listing said item in a category on ebay. One last thing since we’re on the subject of ebay screwing with things and messing things up.
My listing impressions average in August was about 22500 a day.
In September my impressions average was about 17000.In august I was listing about 25 items a week. In September I was listing about 50 items a week.
Can someone give me an explanation that isn’t ebay royally screwing something up on their end? When looking at the 90 day trend in the performance tab the graph is quite striking once Sept 1 comes along. A 25% drop in impressions and coincidentally I also have a 38% drop in average gross sales per week.

I have a friend who will have a specific answer directly from Harry Temkin, the VP of Seller Experience, in a couple of hours..she stated to hold off revising all of your listings and give eBay a chance to fix this first..I will post the results as soon as I get them..
It could be worse, this could be Amazon, good luck getting any answers from them, lol!
-
10/16/2019 at 2:23 pm #69147
Sure….I’ll put that right up there with all the photos ebay deleted, swore they would restore, and never did.
Don’t forget the shipping dimensions fiasco as well.

Could someone please post a summary of what Ebay’s current malfunction is?
Why in the world is he discussing it in a closed FB group and not posting this to the Ebay forums at least? Or a write-up on Ebay’s official tech issues page?

Random side note: I’m listing a vintage LL Bean scarf right now, and see that “Unisex” is no longer an option as a category within clothing….bleh. I guess it wasn’t useful or streamlined enough as a category for eBay (?), but that doesn’t seem terribly progressive or helpful to Sellers or Buyers who use those channels. And how do I re-sell all this gender-neutral clothing that’s coming about? š
-
10/16/2019 at 3:24 pm #69151
Actually the sky is sort of falling right now if you are a clothing or shoe seller. Our stuff is not being seen. I’ve sold $80ish in clothing in 72 hours when it’s normally about $1200. I’ve sold nothing today. No offers. No messages. Something is wrong.
-

Watch this video. The guy gives a video presentation of the scale of the issue. Oh wow this is very, very BAD. The whole search engine is bonked.

This message is now appearing in the Selling Announcements on the Seller Hub:
Technical issues reported in Seller Hub, and listings in clothing, shoes and accessories
10-15-2019 12:32:19 PM
Last Edited 10-16-2019 10:42:13 AM
We’ve received reports of technical issues in Seller Hub, including sales graphs not being up to date, as well as problems when revising or creating listings within Clothing, Shoes and Accessories categories. We’d like to assure you that eBay is aware and we’re working on fixing both issues as a high priority. Please check back and we will update this post when itās resolved.
We apologize for any inconvenience and as always, thank you for selling on eBay.
I have also noticed another potential problem that is not being discussed anywhere. Ebay just took their automatic payment for my last listed invoice amount. My current balance shown in the Seller Hub does NOT reflect the current balance that is shown when I attempt to make a one time payment to cover the additional fees that have accrued over the past few weeks. The price difference is off by $20. I am NOT paying the additional fees until the numbers are correct again.
-
10/16/2019 at 4:04 pm #69156
Not to pile on or anything…but do yourself a favor – do NOT look at your account summary right now. It is all messed up and showing balances much higher than you actually owe.
-
10/16/2019 at 4:14 pm #69157
Our sales this week have been very poor. We’ve barely made $100 a day since Sunday. 30% of our store is clothes which everyone is discussing. But could there be some issue with all items in search?
In moments like these, I stay out of the minute-by-minute disaster atmosphere. Lets see if what happens in the next 48 hours. Nothing we can do about it.

I’m mostly a clothing seller and am taking a wait and see approach for a day or two before attempting to “fix” 800+ listings. Please Ebay, don’t make me regret not cross-posting to Poshmark.
-
10/16/2019 at 4:37 pm #69160
they acknowledged that the sales graphs are off as well…
-
10/16/2019 at 4:42 pm #69161
My sales graph appears to have been fixed. It did get worse before it got better but seems to be fine as of this afternoon.
-
10/17/2019 at 7:15 am #69175
Ebay showed the correct fee amount this morning, so I was able to pay it. Iāve never filled in item specifics, so I donāt know if that is a problem still going on for the rest of you. Sales are running like normal in my store. Hopefully Ebay is overall working again?
-
10/17/2019 at 7:55 am #69179
The Sales data on the Hub doesn’t concern me, as I never have really trusted ebay’s numbers anyway. The only numbers that really matter to me are on the income report found on the Paypal site, since that’s the real money received.
However, the item specifics issue is going to be an absolute nightmare if they can’t fix it. I have chosen to try not to think about it until next week, when we return from our much needed quiet weekend getaway. The rep I talked to suggested waiting a few days to see if a fix could be worked out. I hope so, as I don’t really want to manually fix 4500 listings…..again.
-
10/17/2019 at 8:09 am #69182
This is our strategy. We’re not giving eBay a pass, but there’s nothing we can do about it at the moment. Lets see how eBay fixes it and patch the issues at that time.
-
10/17/2019 at 9:17 am #69197
Exactly. In the mean time I think may run a sale to help minimize the work.
Since I use a third party software for listing (GarageSale), I have to fix all my listing templates to list anything new…but now I’m wondering if I fix them all and list under the new items specifics, if I will have to go back and fix all those new listings if they are able to fix the other mistake. Hmm….
Oh well, As always I’ll just keep listing and take it as it comes.
-
10/17/2019 at 9:25 am #69198
What have your clothing sales been like this week?
-
10/17/2019 at 9:37 am #69201
Jay, yesterday I had a zero sales day! This morning I already began the day with a clothing sale..hopefully it continues..
Yesterday, there were no size refinements for people t search, today there are…so it’s a start..
Kind Regards,
Rick

Semi-stellar, about $4800 coming into Thursday. Should end up above average….but you never can tell.

@ the seam store
Wes, Yesterday a potential buyer was not able to search an item by a size, but this morning they are now able to do so..I just acted like a buyer, and searched for a brand of sport coats that I sell, and refined the search to size, and all of my items were viewable again…yesterday this was not the case..however, when I go in to revise the items, it is still requiring two specifics, the size in the upper mandatory box, and now also the waist circumference..in the past, I would simply use ” does not apply” for this, and you still can, however you have to manually type it in each time as it no longer remembers the term in the drop down..since I already include a waist measurement, I might just double it to fill that box in from now on..
So it appears that the original size specific that we used, now in the lower box, is now at least working in search..this makes me wonder if I should bother revising at all?
Kind Regards,
Rick

10/17/2019 at 9:49 am #69204
Slight retraction..my sport coats come up as viewable when I select the size from the left criteria box when it’s checked..however my shoes do not at all..the shoes only come up in search if I have the size typed into the actual search query title…aaaargh

TLDR:
“As we work to completely resolve this issue and ensure item specifics are mapped correctly to the new item specifics, you can take note of the following:
Your listing is no longer blocked from being re-listed or revised because the required item specific is blank. Behind the scenes we will map the new item specific to the original item specific. “

What doesnāt help is Ebay is actively making changes to the site and the app in the middle of this mess and during Q4.
New features Iāve noticed in the past day include:
If you run a sale, Ebay will now indicate on your sold page in the seller hub in green font āthis item sold on x% sale.ā I havenāt run a sale in a month before yesterday, so I donāt know how recent this change is.
On the Ebay app (iphone), when you add an item to your watchlist, it now has a heart and says āadded to watchlist.ā It used to be just watch and unwatch. I guess the heart is to compete with Etsy.
Why did they want until now to make all these changes? Iāve heard that creating new listings has been difficult today. Glad I took the morning and afternoon off to source and run errands!
-
10/17/2019 at 2:35 pm #69224
I think that the note āthis item sold on x% saleā has been around for about a month, so it’s pretty new.
I’ve noticed a glitch that’s been ongoing for awhile, and I’m wondering whether other people have noticed it or not. Sometimes, when I edit a listing or copy it to create a new one, the condition statement disappears.
I’ve have noticed more recently that I can save the listing with the condition statement not there, but, when I look back, it has reappeared.
I think it happens more with vintage dishware and such.
Today, I sold a Stangl butter plate that I’ve had for years, and the condition statement was blank. Stangl tends to have many minor imperfections, and this one was no different. Hopefully, the buyer looked through all the photos to see what they are getting.

HEY PEEPS, CHECK YOU MOBILE APP, IT NOW SHOWS WHICH ITEMS NEED REVISING..SOME ARE REQUIRED, OTHERS RECOMMENDED..THAT’S THE GOOD NEWS, THE BAD NEWS IS THAT IT DOES NOT HIGHLIGHT WHICH FIELDS ARE MISSING, SO YOU HAVE TO GUESS..FOR EXAMPLE, ON A PAIR OF ECCO SANDALS, I HAD 5 FIELDS MISSING, TOOK GUESSES AND GOT 4 RIGHT, THEN IT FINALLY LET ME KNOW THE LAST MISSING FIELD, WHICH WAS YEAR OF PRODUCTION!! YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!
