Steve – I assume those Ford rotors were too wide for a large flat rate box?
Nice fall walk with the doggies!
My interesting sales from last week:
I purchased a vintage golf bag with the contents early in the year for $15. I thought there would be interest in the clubs, but I haven’t sold one yet. However, I did sell some NOS wood tees a few weeks ago, and these two vintage fishing rods for $28.80.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182592467121I thought that this Johnny Walker clock would sell very quickly, but I’ve had it listed for at least six months. Finally got a $45 offer. I paid a little less than $15.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182467870029I kind of realized at the time that I was paying too much for this vintage photo and frame of Hedy Lamar. I admire her because, apart from being a beautiful actress, she invented a type of RF technology that is currently used in cell phone and satellite communications. Her life story is pretty interesting. Paid $7.70, sold for $40 through the GPS to France. I wouldn’t recommend buying vintage photos of celebrities because most are reproduced by volume sellers. I was lucky to find the right buyer.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182434775703About a year ago, I went “hog wild” at an online auction where I completely filled up my minivan. I bought a lot of office supplies because I wanted a few things, so I broke up the rest into several listings. I probably should have accepted some low offers I received last year, but this large lot of sheet protectors is actually the first to sell. Paid under $2, sold for $32.

Yes, the rotors had to go in 12”x12” box.

I should mention that I do very well with vintage electronics and software. I recently sold two zip drives with blank media to someone in the UK. He recently messaged me with his status on getting them up and running.
I wish I had saved the Atari system that my dad had bought when I was in high school!

What got me started on eBay 20 years ago was selling what then was vintage video games and computers.
I use to be able to find game cartridges (Atari 2600-5200-7800, ColecoVision, Intellivision, Vectrex, etc.) for 25 cents or less – sometimes a dollar or two for a whole box! Systems were usually a couple dollars, and controllers were a dollar or less. I use to skip over NES, SNES, Sega MS/Genesis, and other “newer” games as you couldn’t sell them for pennies back then.
I would buy whole computer systems to sell the games, and dispose of the computer/monitors that now are worth good money…
I guess everything is even though – the money I could of had by saving the old systems and buying NES, SNES etc. games in the 1990s and saving them was offset by all the sports cards I sold back then as well for good money – they are now almost all worthless.

Steve, I forgot to comment on last week’s video that your denim Levi’s fleece lined jacket really took me back to my high school days in the 1980s Napa Valley. I think every guy had one but I haven’t seen one again until now. Funny how certain things really trigger a strong memory for you.
I was lucky to find this super cheap in a bag with other worthless ones. It was actually worth more, but I took a best offer of $25 and the buyer was thrilled. https://www.ebay.com/itm/332380772554 One of those moments when I’m like “it’s a tiny piece of plastic someone is grateful to pay $25 for”. My husband has been telling the kids I’m taking advantage of people. 🙂
Paid $3 at a garage sale and praying they arrive unbroken. Sold immediately. https://www.ebay.com/itm/232531845059
I heart selling vintage nos linens. Paid $5 at flea market. Sold quickly https://www.ebay.com/itm/232516342234
I sold a whole bunch of these RA plates I source for about $10 in quick succession. https://www.ebay.com/itm/232523504359 I later was pleased to see on my own home page that Ebay was showing this first when I clicked on the horizontal image carousel bar for Anthropologie plates. Could have been a pin on Pinterest getting active too. Whatever the case I’m grateful. I just ordered the last remaining 4 from the retailer at clearance prices of $4. Also Ebay is showing this as my first suggestion to restock in the growth recommendations.

Last week was my highest grossing week on eBay ever. I was super ecstatic! Here are a bunch of highlights…
I acquired this gnarly looking hand scythe in a box lot at an auction over a year ago. Looking back at my records, it seems that it was the only sellable item in that lot, so it cost me $10. It had a lot of rust but I just had a feeling that if I restored it a bit, someone would eventually pay a good price for it. So I took the wood handle off, hung it in my electrolysis vat and “scienced” the rust off. It turned out really nice! Lots of pitting, but I think it added to the handmade feel of it. Reattached the handle, listed it for $75 and it sold for full price.
Primitive Hand ScytheHere’s one of the many slides I sold last week as auctions. I may have mentioned before, I bought a whole case of these glass slides for $40 so they came to about .20 cents each. I started off listing about 15 per week as auctions just as an experiment. I would start them off at what I wanted to sell them for just to see what happened. Well there must have been a number of people who wanted the set I listed last week. I was getting bids all over the place. This particular slide I started out at $20 because that what I realistically thought it was worth. It jumped to $125 in the last few minutes! I sold about $725 in slides in total last week and that brings my running total to over $2000. Not a bad $40 investment!
Glass Korean War SlideThis brings me to my fantastic sale of the week, and my highest priced item ever sold. I acquired these keypad panels at an auction last summer. They were in a box lot of other electrical items that I paid a total of $20. I had no way to test them except a makeshift AC adaptor that came with them. I didn’t know if using that adaptor would blow them up, so I risked the most beat up looking one. To my surprise, it powered up and looked like it worked fine. So I tested the rest, confirmed that they at least powered on, and listed them for a crazy amount… $1200. It took a while, but I jumped on a best offer of $750. I thought that was a good price for something that I paid so little for. I just hope they work out for the person and he doesn’t need to return them. So far, so good.
Electric Keypad PanelsHere’s a sale I made toward the end of the week. I got the “magic spell” sound on my phone and a guy was wanting to know some weird dimensions to a wood firkin bucket that I had listed. I got home and gave him the measurements and he immediately sent me a best offer of $72, just a few dollars less than my asking price of 75. Those are the BOs that I like! I got this item at an auction for $25. If it was in better shape, I would have priced it higher. But the bands were falling off and the joints weren’t tight. I’m still happy for the sale!

Firkin is a very common local last name in our area. Funny, I never knew it was actually an object. That’s cool!

It was one of those things where a little research gave me some better keywords to use. I’ve never even heard the word until I looked up other sold examples.

Update on the Apple monitor.
It arrived with a couple cracks in the case, probably rough handling but also the age may have caused it to be a somewhat brittle.
It was well packaged with an inch or more of styrofoam and a sturdy box around the original box.
After some back and forth messaging the buyer accepted a $200 partial refund and kept it, I wasn’t going to have him ship it back regardless but it just goes to show that a little tactful communication will sometimes pay off. He also provided plenty of photos to document the damage and told me I did a good job packing it, now it’s time to make that dreaded insurance claim.-

Steve: Bummer on the breakage, but glad you were able to work it out.

Thanks R&J and everyone here for all your sharing and inspiration!!!
Doublythumbs: I would love to find one of those firkin buckets, Sheldon Finlay shows them in his videos all the time. I remember from when my family lived in New England, they were all over the place, but not such a commodity in the Northwest… and I just love to say “firkin.”

I saw your tiki menu when I was doing research for a lot of 1970’s menus I got in a box lot, nice sale.
Mine are run of the mill cafe menus with nice picturesque scenes but the prices are cool to see. -

Beverly, I actually bought it at the auction because of Sheldon’s videos. Too bad it wasn’t in better shape.
