Steve – If you are having a problem selling the postcards individually due to the higher cost of tracking, why don’t you lot them up and sell them as a group? Then the cost of shipping doesn’t seem as big of a deal.
I really didn’t have an interesting week, so I’ll just include my highest sale. The listing for this hand-carved table became “stale” (about 16 months old), and I realized that I had completely overpriced it. I think the price was $299 with best offer. I re-listed it taking best offer off and reducing the price to $99. Then it ended up on sale for $84. I paid around $3, so the ROI is great and it is out of my house!

That’s a fantastic table! That’s a shame it didn’t sell for what you were originally asking for. I think it was worth that for sure!

If you can find the Danbury Mint Limited Edition Diecasts in box like that they go for a pretty good amount of money. Just had auctions close on two of them the other day.

Found mine for $15 each at a Salvation Army.

Wow! You did really well with auctions on those.
I wasn’t getting that much attention on my Dodge.-

Through all the research I did before posting them I found that only the special edition cars command that much money. I also found a ’58 Impala in box that comps out to around $80, that seems to be the average price for all non-special edition danbury diecasts I could find.

@shayward23, those are some great sales! What prices did you start your auctions at?
Had a lot of mostly low dollar sales last week, with a few more interesting ones. My top grossing sale of the week came back to me this morning via an eBay case/request for return, as 2 of the glass pots broke in transit. I can mostly blame my packing, I suppose, though I do wander if the Fragile stickers mean anything at the Post Office… https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-11-Pcs-Amber-Visions-CorningWare-Cookware-France-USA-2-5L-1-5L-1L-5L/323174197864
I picked up this lovely set of MCM glasses by Fred Press at an estate sale about a year ago for ~$20. They’ve had a lot watchers, and finally sold for $100: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-Of-8-Vintage-Fred-Press-Mid-Century-MCM-Glasses-Tumblers-Reed-Grass-Gold/322847124457
I spotted this well made Della Robbia wall plaque of the Holy Family at an auction last week, and picked it up for $5. It sold within a week for $75: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Niccacci-Deruta-Italy-Della-Robbia-Wall-Plaque-Holy-Family-Handmade-Great-Detail/323211287837
Gotta love that Crabtree & Evelyn. My aunt has given me a lot to sell following her recent move into a smaller house, incl this diffuser oil. So, got it for free, and it sold for $60: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Crabtree-Evelyn-NOEL-Home-Fragrance-Oil-10ml-Diffuser-Scent/322934873668
Hoping to hit an auction and perhaps a yard sale or two this weekend, but I’m mostly focused on listing what’s already in the house to list – got a few weeks of travel coming up, so hoping to keep the sales channels primed.
From your all’s experience, when does the summer slowdown start for you?

Oh yeah, I assume Fragile stickers mean nothing to USPS workers. Not their fault though really. They’ve way overworked and can’t really take the time to special handle packages. I still use them on glass-containing boxes though for a couple of reasons. It shows the buyer that I took the extra effort to label it correctly so if it does break, they’re less apt to blame me. And also it might make insurance claims easier if the package clearly says Fragile. I had a lady send me picture of her box that arrived almost completely crushed. It was covered in fragile stickers too. Thankfully, the mug inside survived so we both had a little laugh about it.

@SilverFoxFinds I started them at $50 each. My research showed that the Dream Truck typically brought around $150 which is almost exactly what mine did. The California Kid on the other had was going for between $220 and $250, I ended at $280 which is higher then any comp I could find.

I love selling those bench vises. I usually get them for really cheap at auctions and can sell them for quite a bit if they’re certain old brands. I made a few notable sales last week…
I’ll start with my big sale of the week. This poetry book titled Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire was laying on a table along with a bunch of junk left over from an auction that someone left. They must have thought it was pretty worthless. I was intrigued by the title and the artwork inside, so I took it home with me. After some research, I found that this was a really rare edition, and perhaps even rarer because it wasn’t numbered in the way it should have been. I believe it was a reviewer’s copy. I priced it $50 higher than the highest price sold and it got bought for full price of $160.
Poetry Book “Flowers of Evil”I sold another Technics stereo component from the system I bought last summer at a yard sale for $25. This was the cassette deck. It worked great, but has some scratches on the top so I only listed it for $45. So all I have left are the two speakers (which I’ve received a lot of messages about shipping, but I just want to do local pickup) and some of the smaller parts like remotes, hinges, etc. I’ve made $330 so far from that buy
Technics Cassette DeckHere’s a neat Jadeite glass towel bar rack that I got at an auction. I spent a little too much… $25 for this and another jadeite ashtray, but it paid off after selling it for $44 (the ashtray sold too for $40). I love jadeite glass. I’ll buy it anytime it’s available if it’s cheap enough.
Jadeite Towel BarThis Goofy Disney watch came from a small box lot of all kinds of watches that I got for $35. I didn’t have time to look up every watch in the box, but there were several old looking Mickey Mouse ones in there, so I took a gamble. I remember when Jay and Ryanne sold that MM watch for big money. Well unfortunately, there weren’t any valuable ones. But this one sold for $30. I’ve made my money back with the sale of that and one other from that box so it was worth the gamble.
Disney Goofy WatchLastly, I wanted to mention this sale of an old watch face and inner mechanism. I have a listing with dozens of these being sold as a lot aimed for someone who could use them for parts. I got a message from a girl who just wanted one specific piece. I don’t usually go in and break up lots, but she offered $30. A very fair deal. So I made a custom listing, she bought it and I just Photoshopped that piece out of the pictures from the old listing.

U-Haul wardrobe boxes are good for shipping speakers, there are several sizes.
I line the boxes with styrofoam sheets, real thick on the bottom. I also put the speakers in a big trash bag, keeps out moisture and keeps the wood away from the coarse styrofoam.
I haven’t had any damage. I tried using FedEx and a private packaging store and both times they arrived damaged.

Thanks, Steve, interesting. Midge sure has grown up!!! She looks like she’s happy the snow is gone, she didn’t look too thrilled about it last time waiting outside the door cussing at you to let her in.
I got caught up in doing other things, haven’t gone to many estate sales, but the season is starting back up here in Seattle/Tacoma area. eBay sales seem to be picking up a bit for me since the beginning of May:
Cyril Dillon etching, I purchased in the 70’s for a few bucks at an old book store in England, got it framed in the US, left it behind with my lying cheating ex-husband, he just sent it to me last year after 35 years, sold for $249.99, went to Australia, where it was originally made, so that’s cool. Sent through GSP and was just delivered to Down Under: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112848497666
Wood mask, I was liberal in describing it as tiki, it’s probably from Mexico, paid $5 at an estate sale, sold for $34.95, going to China: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112922865065
Almost my last wood tiki, one of the smaller ones, paid a few bucks, sold for $28.75: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112856432641
On wood tikis, the better ones are carved on all sides (not a flat back), bigger is better, interesting wood (light and dark), heavy wood, signed and dated.Lot of old Rodeo magazines, paid about $1 for a whole stack of them, sold the Ketch Pen lot for $26.95: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112881845563
Whiting Davis mesh flapper bag, got carried away at an auction and paid too much $52, sold for $78.95 after 2+ years, but made $16 after fees: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112918044461
Old Japanese origami umbrellas, paid 50 cents at an estate sale, sold for $44.95: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112911305156
Old hat box, paid $5 at a family estate sale, sold for $29…I thought it would go for me, but there were several others just like it out there for sale: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112873337165
Last pair of Ariat Fire Resistant Work Jeans, paid $5.99 at GW, sold for $52.99: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112860478028
Christmas felt wall decorations from my old old stuff, haven’t put them out in years, sold pretty quickly for $39.95 each to the same buyer:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/112830887457
https://www.ebay.com/itm/112830886607Bailey’s mugs, paid 99 cents each at GW, sold for $24.95: https://www.ebay.com/itm/112858405518

The only good sale I’ve had was this Disney Hawaiian shirt featuring Mickey, Goofy, and Chip N Dale. Sold for $50 plus shipping. I had recently heard that these can sell well so I stuck with that price for a couple of months until I got it. I also have a Harley Davidson Hawaiian shirt I picked up the other day that needs to go up.

I tend to buy a bit of what I call “obscure high-end clothing.” By obscure, I mean it’s by a high-end or even luxury-level designer I’ve never heard of, or, less often, I’ve heard of them, but they’re not very well known except by those who follow fashion at the couture level. The problem is when no ebay buyer has heard of them either, so then they don’t sell for very much, and I’ve even lost money on a few items. But I’ve also made out pretty well on a number of items. Now I try to be more careful and only buy stuff that seems to be selling (obvious to me now, but not when I was starting out).
An independent, sometimes way overpriced thrift store I go to did not, of course, identify this Rachel Comey dress as high end, so I got it for only $3.75. I sold it for $44 (would have gotten more but it had a tear by the zipper). I had not heard of Rachel Comey before, but the dress looked interesting enough to look up. https://imgur.com/a/jCtJSHg
At a mostly junky rummage sale, I found these ski pants that looked interesting and good quality, so I surreptitiously looked them up and then did a little internal happy dance when I saw that Erin Snow ski pants retail for over $500, and there was some action on them on ebay. When I came to check out, the cashier charged me $1, and the pricer hovered nearby, clearly upset that she had not identified and labelled these as a higher priced item. Sold them in 2 weeks for $100.
I don’t know how or why, but I had heard of Issey Miyake and his Pleats Please line a very long time ago, so I was super excited to find this dress. It was priced at $15, but when I mentioned I was going to try to get a faint stain out of the dress, the cashier gave it to me for $10. More happy dancing! Stain came out easily, and dress sold in one day for $225.
Never heard of Paul Stuart, but this mens overcoat I found at a mostly junky thrift store on their FREE DAY seemed high quality, so I looked it up, and then quickly stuffed it in my bag and took it to my car. Even with two flaws (see last 2 photos), it still sold for $70.
Jack Gomme – a French high end handbag designer. At a store that sells old ll bean corduroys for $8, I got this bag for $2. Sold in 1 month for $40.
I almost didn’t buy this Reformation dress (yard sale), b/c it was $15 and I wasn’t able to look it up on my phone. But I went to my car, looked it up, and went back and grabbed it. Sold in 3 days for $88.
This last item was also from FREE DAY at the mostly junky thrift store, and the name Sonia Rykiel sounded vaguely familiar, so I grabbed this children’s beret. Sold in 1 month for $37. I think it went to Korea of all places.
And now for the dud. I looked up the name Luciano Barbera and it’s a high end Italian designer, stuff sells at Barney’s for really high prices, and stuff sells on ebay too. So I grabbed this cashgora (comes from a goat that is a cross between angora and cashmere goats) corduroy jacket for $12 and did my happy dance. When it was still in my store a year later, I was no longer happy. Finally let it go for $9.99 🙁 I lost money on it, but at least I learned what cashgora is!
