Great sales Steve! I noticed that you sold some canoe seats last week, and you sold a cross handle this week. I’m wondering if you bought a canoe that you are parting out, or did you buy a bunch of canoe parts?
I had a some good sales last week. Here are the best of them:
This is a Sevres brass & porcelain compote that one of my parent’s downsizing friends gave to me. Sold for $150. I was a bit concerned about Sevres because there are lots of copies, but the hallmark checked out, and I found similar sold items.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182985011447This was part of an auction lot I purchased a little over a year ago that no one else wanted. There were two styles of new in box Christmas salt & pepper shakers that I broke into two listings. The first lot sold last year. These 19 sold for $38. I paid less than a dollar.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/182570389113I paid about $2 each for these Stiffel lamps in an online auction. They sold for the asking price of $170. They were a bear to pack, but worth the ROI!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183128552953My first Carhartt sale! I don’t find this brand too often around my area. These were vintage coveralls celebrating 100 years. Bought for about $9, sold for $75.

The wooden canoe parts came from a basement I helped clean out. I knew there wood be interest as they were made from mahogany.

Nice sales, Steve! Nothing like finding some valuable treasures in the bottom of a box lot. 🙂
I’m listing, listing, listing today, though the sun is out and temps are warming up, so I wonder if I’ll be wandering out a little early this afternoon…
Here are some highlights from last week’s sales:
Mentioned on Tuesday that my highest sale was my own Berkey Water Filter System, due to my partner saying he can taste the charcoal filter “flavor” and wanting an under the counter unit. Took a small loss on the sale, of course: https://www.ebay.com/itm/EUC-Berkey-Imperial-Water-Filter-System-Stand-4-5-Gal/323081616363
Sold those Snap-On tools I got for a song at an estate sale! I put them on sale along with a bunch of other stuff, since I had them priced high compared to others available in a much cleaner state, and got a message from a guy who suggested that a further 20% off would put them in his price range. Then he wrote a few days later to ask if they had any owner’s marks on them; I was traveling at the time, so told him I’d let him know when I was back home at the end of the week. He bought them before I got back home 🙂 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Snap-On-Complete-22-Piece-3-8-Drive-Metric-Socket-Wrench-Set-PB17B-USA/323068709894
My mom and stepdad have a standing weekly date, where they go to their local auction, though neither of them needs anything at this point in their lives. They buy occasionally, but enjoy catching up with auction friends, and generally seeing what’s what. A few years back, my stepdad got a large cache of these WWII escape scarf maps, and they’ve been sitting around for who knows what. My Mom let me start selling them, and they do well, though slowly for the most part. Last week, a guy bought several though, and really ran my sale #s up in a great way: https://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-AAF-Escape-Map-Scarf-Asiatic-No-34-Southeast-China-No-35-Northeast-China/322482468710
In trying to buy higher price items to get higher price sales, I picked up these Waterford glasses at an estate sale on one of their % off days. I more or less doubled my money on them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-4-Mint-Waterford-Crystal-Colleen-Old-Fashioned-Short-Stem-Glasses-3-5/323068255998
I guess it was the vintage nature of this blanket that caught my eye at a thrift store in recent months, and when I found the maker’s tag, I looked it up – a weaving operation in NC that’s no more. Similar blankets were going for over $100 on eBay, and there weren’t a terrible lot of them. So, I spent more than I normally would have ($10!), and listed it for $110. Found a few defects at home that prevented me from listing it at $125, which I would have preferred, but not bad either way: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Goodwin-Guild-Green-Cream-Woven-Coverlet-w-Fringe-Queen-90-x-104/323173983091
This was one of my auctions that felt a bit bust to me, *based on what I was expecting* from other recently sold auctions (note to self: do not do auctions over Spring Break or Easter; I wasn’t paying attention). Bought this lot of Fisher Price Little People/stuff for $2 at a yard sale, and it sold for $57. I was hoping for nearer $100. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Fisher-Price-Little-People-Lot-of-82-Figures-Cars-Furniture-Mini-Bus/323170981768
This lovely embroidered linen tablecloth was part of a linens box lot I got in an estate sale auction – a time consuming labor of love in cleaning and sorting vintage linens, and something I’m only going to do now if I see a real winner, or think my quilting mother would like some of the stash… Took me months if not a year to get this item out of the death pile, and it sold promptly: https://www.ebay.com/itm/EUC-Vintage-Pink-Rose-Cross-Stitch-Linen-Tablecloth-64-x-80/323044215829
Probably shouldn’t have put this manual on my recent shop sale, but I did, and it sold. One of the few items I’ll bother listing for under $15, due to ease of storage and packing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/La-Crosse-WT-5720-Radio-Projection-Alarm-Instruction-Manual-Only/323151237912

Nice sales, Steve. That was one sleek looking reel to reel player, no wonder it sold for $1200. I had a great week of sales last week. Here are some highlights!
I was given this old Compu-Trainer electrical training machine by my dad last winter. When I initially looked it up, others have sold for $15 or $20 so I didn’t think much of it. When it finally came time to list it, I couldn’t find any others for sale so I said what the hell and listed it for $150. It sold for full price in less than a day! It’s possible that I even underpriced it, but I was super stoked about the sale anyway.
Compu-Trainer Electrical Training MachineI’ve learned a lot since I began parting out broken audio equipment. Turntables are where it’s at! I’ve sold more parts from them than from any other piece of equipment I’ve parted out. Here’s a neat item that I got from one recently. They’re plastic platter spacers used to lock the platter into place during shipping. They were probably meant to be thrown away after the customer received their turntable, but for whatever reason this person kept them. I didn’t understand what they were at first but it all clicked when I found where they were meant to go. I figured they would be useful to someone and I was right! An easy $9 right there.
Technics Turntable Platter SpacersHere’s my big sale of the week. I found this Sony boombox at an estate sale and instantly knew it would do well. I only paid a couple bucks for it. The thing was REALLY heavy! The main body was all metal. Unfortunately, the cassette portion needed some work done. The belts were fine, so I couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t work. I listed it for repair for $225 and took a best offer of $152.
Sony FH-7 StereoHere’s a neat example as to why you should think before throwing stuff away that you think is junk. These were the instruction manual and paperwork from a Garmin trail GPS that I bought years ago. The GPS unit had since been broke and thrown away, but I found this extra stuff in a drawer when cleaning recently. So I listed it for $20 and it sold in short time. Easy sale!
Garmin GPS manual & extrasI use to pass up on these kinds of old picture frames all the time at auctions because I just thought they were almost worthless. It’s the picture or art inside the frame that’s worth money, right? Well this was in a box lot of other art so I figured I’d list it and see if there was any interest. It sold within a month for a best offer of $100! Who knew? I’ll be buying these up from now on when I see them.

Note – none of my sales prices include shipping.
I love finding interesting and/or high quality vintage clothing, but have found selling it very frustrating b/c most items I would like to buy (and have bought a lot of in the past) just don’t sell for very much (less than $20), if at all. But here is a selection of items that I *was* able to squeeze a decent profit out of. A lot of others I end up selling for $9.99 or less, or even just donate.
I found two pairs of new without tags vintage jeans by Gloria Vanderbilt – with the swan embroidered on them and everything. Paid $3 each. I was happily shocked to see them sell for $66 each. The complete opposite of my experience with vintage Guess jeans.
This next item had me worried for a while. I think it’s fabulous, and it feels like silk. Bought it for $8. But hardly any watchers and no takers for $55 for a long while. Finally sold for $44 to a guy who is putting together items for a museum of the factory in NY state that produced the dress way back when.
Paid $9 for this fabulous vintage 80s(?) silk blouse by Louis Simon for La Libellule. Those black polka dots are embroidered, not printed, onto the yellow silk. Hoped for $50-60. There’s something similar on etsy currently listed for $70… In the end was relieved to get an offer for $35.
When I saw this leather coat at a yard sale, it screamed “Dorothy Zbornak” to me. Bought it for $5, and spent a long while airing it in the sun and zapping with ozone trying to get the musty smell out of it. Only partly successful. Very happy to get $55 for it.
Vintage 70s Bleyle sailor-style knit pantsuit. Like much 70s clothing, made for somebody very skinny. Bought for $11. Sold for $55!
And finally, one of my favorite vintage clothing purchases, a vintage 70s Yves Saint Laurent 3-piece suit with side vents. Excellent condition. Purchased for $21. Sold for $99 to someone in England.
I’m going to end with a dud again.
I bought this vintage 90s 100% wool Gap argyle cardigan at a rummage sale – probably 25 cents. I thought it was great quality, cool looking, and there wasn’t anything else like it for sale. And it had great buttons! Set the price at $33. And then for 2+ years, every few months agonized over why oh why it wasn’t selling. Had it down at 24.99, 22, 14.99, 19.99, even 9.99. Finally sold for a whopping $8.99. At least I didn’t lose money on it. -

I took some lower offers for some quick flips this week so I could pay a large tax bill. I was not able to embed Imgur photos, kept getting a “forbidden” error.
Home Depot Shopping Tote – used to go for big money when an actress used one as a purse a few years back. The demand has died down. Listed for $29.99, took $20 within a day of listing for the fast money. https://www.ebay.com/itm/263594864393
Lilly Pulitzer Holiday Skirt – paid $3, sold within hours for $75. I fully expect to get this returned as the buyer asked a million questions (after buying), sent many emails about why I charged sales tax, etc. https://www.ebay.com/itm/263593362514
10 NWT Orla Kiely Washcloths. I paid $1.99 each and took an offer for $10 each. Buyer bought 10 so it was a $100 sale. https://www.ebay.com/itm/262952002872
I’ve sold a bunch of Dragon Ball Z Childrens birthday loot bags. I bought a ton and have been selling them in lots. So far I’ve made $101.36 from the ones that have sold and have 2/3rds of the inventory still left to sell. They sat at my GW forever until they were marked 50% off. After sitting for a while with no action, they’ve been flying off my shelf lately. https://www.ebay.com/itm/262917873991

Julie, love your items. Orla Kiely is a favorite though I don’t find much at my kind of prices.

Hello elves. Sharing a few recent sales.
A different UK needlepoint kit brand – paid $10 at estate sale https://www.ebay.com/itm/332551966687
One of the few pieces of Arabia in good condition that I have found, paid a buck at the storage locker buyout thrift and sold BO $75 https://www.ebay.com/itm/332094065352
One of very, very few tiki mugs I’ve found. Paid $3.99 at GW https://www.ebay.com/itm/332552896021
Love selling small nautical paintings like this. Paid $5.99 at a thrift and it sold pretty quickly. https://www.ebay.com/itm/232705538682
Finally, regarding $10 items. Paid basically pennies for this at a church rummage, totally doubted myself when listing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/232663715993 Sold pretty quickly with this feedback: “Very unique napkin rings. I appreciate something unusual. A++++++++” Gotta stay with the gut I guess. Have a great rest of the week.

Nice sales, ChristineR. I always see stuff I like in your sales.
On the tiki mug … That sure looks like a “Shag” design. Did you determine if it was or not?

Hi Beverly. Yes, I sent a Facebook message with photos to Jason Smith @ the Thrifting Board. He answered me immediately and we had a quick chat about how it was Shag-inspired / i.e. a rip off of Shag. He’s a great resource for Tiki and invites you to share finds or potential buys (in case it’s something he wants).

I really enjoy your videos Steve. THanks for putting these together every week.
I had only a couple sales this past week. This is a corner vise – very useful to woodworkers and probably others as it allows position of a clamped item in horizontal or vertical position. I decided to photograph it clamped to a 2×4 so buyers could quickly understand how it works.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/192506618691This was a nice Nike hat I thought about keeping for myself. Instead I put it up and it sold in 24 hours. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192508464466
best wishes to all, Daniel
