I heard Ryanne’s mention of tile on the podcast and was inspired to post here on the forum to see what I might be doing wrong. I have several tile listings that have been up for a very long time but here are just three examples.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162813201632
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162902209206
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162929858951Is my tile ugly?
Priced too high?
Just long tail and I need to be patient?Your feedback would be invaluable to me and I thank you in advance for anything you want to contribute here.

The closest I could find to your first listing 162813201632 was this one on Worthpoint that sold for $29.99 in 2012
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/franciscan-interpace-terra-brown-geo-22608052
This single tile sold for $19.99 in 2014
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/franciscan-interpace-tile-1661670879Doing an eBay search for border listello tiles similar to yours, a lot of them are priced around $6 with free shipping. Both Houzz and BHG are offering similar tiles for around $6, both with free shipping.
The pricing on the last tile seems to be fine, but the shipping cost is high. Also, you’re showing tiles in that listing that you’re not selling in that listing. If this were my listing, I would do a bunch of photos with the tile for this listing only, then I would include one at the very end with the pink tiles. In the description I would state that the pink tiles are available in a separate listing and give the listing URL in the description.
All three listings are going to be long tail items. I’ve found that DIY stuff sells best from March through September, so for half a year, they’re going to be actively searched. You may need to wait a couple years for them to sell.

Thank you Amatino, that is very helpful and I will take a closer look into everything and make adjustments. I appreciate your input.

Yes, I see that I was pie in the sky pricing and I am editing the prices now.

Selling vintage tile is definitely long tail. Sometimes takes a couple years to sell. But when it sells, it can sell for good money.
We’ve never sold large quantity of tiles as I see you have. Maybe instead of selling them one by one, you sell those tiles by the box. People will want to know the square footage.
And like anything, style is important. Personally we would never use some of those tile designs. A little too 80’s. But someone out there may want it for the right price.
Just curious: when you list items, what are your expectations for the length of time it’ll take to sell? Are you willing to list and forget? Or are you hoping to sell quickly?

Hey Jay, thanks for your help. I am always hoping to sell quick, that is a given — but I am completely willing to list and forget. However, my inexperience or lack of confidence makes it so that I revisit items once in a while to see if I was off the charts or on track. These tiles were listed when I first started several months ago so it seemed to me a good idea just to check on them after being reminded that I even had them by Ryanne’s comment. In this case it seems that I was completely off the charts on my listings! I fixed the listings and hopefully that will help.
Yes, sq ft would be great if I could figure out how to correctly figure it out. I get confused by the math so I left it out. I think that 100 pieces of 3×3 is 6.25 sq ft. Is that right?

Understood. Good to always be learning! I was just asking to make sure you didnt have unrealistic expectations on how things like this sell.
Not sure I can do the math for you. I bet there are online calculators. Or just lay out a box of the tile and measure it.

Sigilini,
I would offer that the pictures in the first two links are dark. When you click the third link, the first picture is bright and colorful which is exactly what you want. You may want use a photo editor to brighten the first picture in the first two links or take a new picture. The visual asthetics of our pictures are the first things our buyers really see, so we need to make sure our pictures stand out even when our items are of a darker color.

I completely agree, AdventureE, I had a terrible time with those photos and it was really frustrating. I should give it another shot with better lighting or go outside with them.

Sigilini,
Congrats. Is it my computer or did you change the first picture on the set you mentioned above because it pops which is what should happen with pictures. -
06/06/2018 at 9:15 pm #41863
Thanks AdventureE!! I did not change the pictures because I reshot them but the new ones were no better than the old ones. I figured out that my phone is just not good enough for ebay pix so I plan to upgrade my phone because you are completely correct, the pictures matter.

By the way, I forgot to mention: I got these tiles and another exact same set of 4 (8 total) for free at a yard sale. They were in the “free” pile.
