Thought I’d share a few things …
Last August I had 1600 items in a Premium store, all GTC. Sales were $100/day on average.
$60 Monthly Store subscription (1000 free listings) and then $60 more for the “extra” 600 items over the 1000 = $120 basic monthly listing cost. It bugged me to keep paying for those extra listings as I grew the inventory so I bit the bullet and made a few changes.1. Upgraded to Anchor level store; $299/month for 10,000 listings.
2. Switched to 7-day listings, and bulk relist every week (takes about 3 minutes for 1500 items).
3. 100% promoted listings using Trending rates. Each ad now shows twice in search results.
4. Run a 24 hour sale at 20% off everyday on all inventory. Buyers like sales.
5. Allow Best Offer on anything over $18.
6. “Free” shipping on First class items. The rest is calculated shipping. Results:
A. Daily sales are now over $200.
B. Store has grown to over 2000 items.
C. Changes [2] and [4] causes a bump in search and induces a sense of urgency in Shoppers to Buy Now
D. Change [3] … 40% of sales are now through Promoted Listings.By bulk relisting 2000 items every 7 days I use up ~8000 “Free” listings/month. Still room to grow, then will move to 10-day listings when I get to 3300 items or so. After that, open a 2nd store and grow it using the same “tricks.”
This is our little secret …. shhhhhh.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! How did you arrive at $18 as the cut off for Offers?

Most of my items with “Free” shipping are priced under $18.88, a ~$4 cost, so there isn’t a lot of room to offer a much lower price. For instance, I have a bunch of $14.88 trucker hats, with a 20% daily sale and ~$4 shipping cost built in, I don’t want to encourage lower offers. Most offers at the low end tend to be pretty ridiculous.
Most things I am happy to sell at 20% off, and even lower if the Offer isn’t too far below the sale price. Like many here, I get things so cheap, so I’m happy to move things faster rather than wait a longer time for a possibly higher price.
One other thing I’ve learned is that when I get what looks like a harsh offer, rather than decline it outright, I first check to see how close that offer is to the “Market” price. About half the time it’s indicated that my listed prices are currently too high (though they were “OK” when listed initially).

Hi pickin. I am curious to know if you track how much the promoted listings are costing on average each month. Do you happen to track that? Oh, and hello from a fellow Minnesotan! Iām in the cities. Iād love to go to a good farm auction. Ours up here are high buck fine art and estate. Marjean

Marjean …
Here’s a snapshot of the last 31 days:
Total Sales of $6087 on 255 items
Promoted sales of $2374 on 97 items (38% of total)
Promoted cost of $144.70 (6.1%)It’s impossible to know what sales would be without the Promoted ads, but I think it is well worth the added cost.

PickingPair: Interesting ideas. I’ll have to mull over some of them. We do Promoted listings now, but I like some of your ideas…

This is cool! Thanks for taking the time to detail it all – you’ve inspired me to look into promoted listings/sales.

I’ve had promoted listings for 2 months now. I maintain between $900-$1000 in sales from promoted listings per 31 days.

Retro WV,
Have you been getting the promised refunds for the promoted listings fees according to what level store you have? -

I’m not Retro WV, but in the last 2 quarters of 2017, I was not getting the credit for TRS. I had to call in and go through about 6 different eBay reps over about 2 weeks until I finally got to talk to a supervisor who gave me the credits. For this quarter, I was credited automatically so it seems to have been fixed. I recommend checking your invoices to confirm.

Retro, we are similar. We currently show $3,048 in sales in the last 31 days through promoted listings, with an ad fee of $244.
And I make sure we get our $30 credit…

Do you get your promoted listings ad fee credits in the same month as the charges are incurred, or the next month? Is it clearly labelled as being a credit related to promoted listings?
In my February invoice, I was charged $3.30 in promoted listings fees, with no credits.
In my March invoice, I was given a “Miscellaneous credit” of $4.62, and was charged $15.62 in ad fees.
So I’m thinking that I’ll get credit for the $15.62 in the next invoice?Maybe it’s time to call ebay.

We use up way more than $30, so I saw the full $30 credit in Feb.

OK – thanks for the info.
Just called ebay and rep “put in a request” to get me my credit.
Hmm.. I’ve heard that before (on other things). But maybe it will work this time!

Glad to hear you guys are getting your promoted listings credit – thanks for responding. I got a small un-labeled credit a month or two ago, but it didn’t seem large enough to cover what was spent, but I didn’t follow up b/c it was just a couple of bucks. I will check this next invoice to make sure I’m getting the correct amount. Glad to hear that previous glitches were fixed.

I’m not TRS, so no credits for me.

Just following up to report that the customer service rep’s request did work, and I got a credit $18.92, the exact amount I had spent on promoted listings! Wow. Sometimes fixes do come fairly quickly. It’s just easy to get discouraged when the rep didn’t seem to understand what I meant by promoted listings at first. š
