I had lots of opportunities to scavenge this week. My favorite library sale, which bans hand-held scanners and constantly restocks, was on Saturday. The Philly regional card show, which is a short drive from me and was apparently mobbed, ran all weekend. And of course I am always checking the large consignment trading card sellers on eBay. There are always auctions running.
But for the first time in a year (!) if not more, I bought absolutely nothing this past week. Had some family stuff come up. The cool thing about selling online full-time is that once you’ve built the pipeline, it is completely possible to completely flex your schedule around whatever else you need to handle. Not just take a half day, take a maybe paid day off or rely on a boss’s goodwill. I listed a few things some days, shipped out stuff maybe two days, and I responded to offers once I got home at night. Even on autopilot mode, things still sold, and there will always be more opportunities to buy.
What did you scavenge this week?

Funny that you mention your library sale bans scanners. We went to a school book sale on Saturday. They solicit community donations every year. Huge deal apparently. I’d been previous years later on the second day, but this year we decided to show up when it opened. OMG! I couldn’t believe the number of people waiting in line, many with stacks of crates and rolling carts. So many people with scanners that you could hardly get close to the books. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve occasionally seen a scanner at an Estate Sale, but to have so many people with them was unexpected. I overheard one person saying they drove 150 miles for this sale. One guy had his scanner set up to make a chime whenever he scanned a book that met his criteria. He never even looked at the scanner or the book, but each time it chimed he tossed it in his crate. I grabbed a few books, but just didn’t have the stomach for standing shoulder to shoulder and fighting for the space.

I wonder what they’re buying? I see hundreds of books every week at the flea market, from house clearances, so I’ve got a good idea of what would be donated in the UK. Nothing worth even picking up.
Last one I actually sold from there was Culpeper’s Complete Herbal, from the 1860s. That went to the US; cost me £1, sold for £80, buyer paid somewhere around 150 dollars with the p&p and customs duties on top. There was a time when duty wasn’t paid on printed paper, and then GSP came along. 🙂

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334786487137 Not the best item I found at the rummage sale but I was thrilled to find out that a basic pillowcase can sell for this price. A few comps even a bit higher and I got to make an offer right away.

I picked up 3 interesting items this week. I haven’t list them yet.
The first is a Columbia PHG wool hunting outfit – jacket and pants. It has some wear, so I think it will sell for $125-150.
Next is a jacket nearly identical to this one:
I really don’t want to buy coats/jackets anymore but this one should sell quick for $70-80.
The last item is hard to find comps for – a Bose AWCS-2 Cannon woofer.
If you’ve never seen a Bose Acoustic Wave cannon before, google it. What an amazing piece of over the top audio equipment!
My local goodwill had just the woofer for $55. The cheap scavenger in me had a real problem paying $55 for this. It isn’t even tested. In the end the cost isn’t relevant as I also picked up a power tool battery charger for $2 that will sell instantly for $60.
My plan is to list this on auction starting at $250. There is one comp for an AWCS-1 woofer in Terapeak that sold for $205 BIN. There is a whole DIY scene for building copies of the bose sound cannon, so I bet there are plenty of people with search alerts set up on ebay for just the woofer.

Wow, that woofer is insane. I assume this must be for commercial installations. Found a pic where they stacked 6 of them together. Good luck with the auction.

It is amazing! A stack of six would be good for playing the brown note.
