Hi,
We sold a vintage crockpot. It was packed super well, but the buyer just opened a return case. Said it arrived broken, but that they didn’t open the package and refused the package from the Post Office. How does that work? The PO returns to us and we have to pay return shipping when it arrives??
It was shipped parcel select so no insurance. 😖

how do they know it was damaged if they didn’t open it and refused it from the post office? Did you ask for photos of the damaged box/damaged item?

I’m not sure about Parcel Select. I think with Priority, if the buyer returns it unopened, the PO picks up the return cost. Media mail, seller pays. But I rarely use Parcel Select, so I’m not sure.

They said “Heard broken pieces in the box. Didn’t open. Refused shipment. ”
This is what they put in the return comments on eBay. They could’ve heard the cord for the crockpot moving around there’s no way to know because they didn’t open the box.

OK, I just checked, and it looks like First Class and above: No charge. Below that, seller has to pay the return shipping. So, Parcel select, you will pay to get it back. Or, technically, you’ll have the choice to pay the PO when the package arrives, or to tell them you don’t want it.

I wonder what eBay’s return policy is on this. If we will have to refund the original shipping and purchase price? Have to call eBay and find out. Should’ve shipped priority.

Thanks for the help.
If they would have just opened a return case like a normal person and showed the lid was broken or whatever, we could have offered partial refund or found them a lid. Or refunded and said keep it. Since shipping was $30. Don’t want to pay $60 for the round trip shipping. Won’t recoup it with a crockpot as sales price was $45. 😫

I agree its a bad situation. Sounds like you’ll have to eat some postage. We stopped buying and selling crockpots for this reason.

Jay I agree after this. The others we sold were in original box with original packaging. So it was a box in a box. This didn’t have the ordinal box and it couldn’t have been packed better. Not really worth the time spent packaging even if it hadn’t been broken.

If you had shipped it Fedex Home Delivery it would have probably cost less than Priority OR Parcel Post. You could have insured it for .79 on Shipsaver.

The remains of the crock pot arrived on our doorstep this evening.
This is so bizarre…
We didn’t have to pay to get it back. They just left it.
It was in a different box than what we sent it out in. Well, we found out our box was inside of this new box. The side of our box had been ripped open…not the top or bottom seam but the side. And the crock pot was pulverized. In 1000 pieces.
Also in th box were two foreign objects. A small bottle of lotion and some chocolate wafers that were wrapped in tissue paper.
WTF?!

I really don’t understand stand the two foreign objects in there. And the crockpot looks like it was dropped off a roof. After being ripped from ththe original box.

Maybe the customer felt bad for dropping it and it was some type of “peace offering” for having to return the thing? The wrapped cookies looked kind of like a present! 😮 What a crazy eBay story…

Ah well, refunded the buyer. Not their fault. At least we didn’t have to pay to get it shipped back. Rita’s gonna try to see if the Post Office will do anything. Obviously something crazy happened. 🤢
