Came across a listing of someone selling electronics parts etc. All listings/store photos are all in front of 90% bare women’s breasts. (i can post a screenshot, but didn’t want to sully our forum!!). This would be considered search manipulation by ebay or some other listing violation right? Or they’d have to list in the Adult Only section even though they’re selling a remote control, right? Just curious. It seems vastly unfair for them to sell this way.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/adult-items-policy?id=4278
“eBay defines nudity as male/female genitalia, anus, or female breasts where the areola or nipple is visible”
Such items must be listed in the Everything Else > Adult Only category
I don’t know if posting this quote from eBay is objectionable if so then my apologies.

I’ve ran into these kind of listings before. I’m no prude, but DAMN. It’s always electronics, too.
The worst one I’ve seen was someone who was taking screenshots of porn and photoshopping his items in to cover up the explicit bits. Got a good laugh out of me, although the listing would seemingly not go away from “recently viewed” bit on eBay’s landing page.
In the category of “weird and creepy”, a guy who registered his eBay account in the early 2000s had a young woman posing with his items. His store is probably OLDER than her. Also – pretty sure it was his daughter? Or this guy rolled up to the local sorority house and dangled a bottle of Tito’s out the window? Weird move, friend.
Never sure what to do with these listings – report, or steal the idea and hire one of these Instagram models to pose with some heavy vintage electronics? Hmm.

my first reaction was honestly that bosom = unfair selling advantage to non-bosom photos. so i’m like, this is search manipulation. almost like sellers who used to (and still do!!!) have L@@K in their titles.

Electronics. And Auto stuff. And Militaria. I’m sure there are more too.
I don’t think it qualifies as Search Manipulation, just as using a white background and taking really good quality photos doesn’t count as Search Manipulation, even though it does provide an advantage. But this isn’t an UNfair advantage. true, we aren’t all blessed with photogenic bosoms, but , as IndySales says, we could rent a pair if the ROI justifies it LOL

HA! I was just discussing this with Edgar this morning! I was trying to get him to take some pictures of ties with his shirt off, he wouldn’t go for it. Lol

I wonder if they get people who file returns because the 90% of bosoms weren’t included as shown in the photos 🙂

That is just crazy, but I’m curious, how does one find out if someone is stealing their photos? .

I wonder if the added attention results in more sales. I personally would question if I was ordering electronics from a frat boy playing beer pong, but as a 50 year old straight female am not the targeted demographic. Haha..
I noticed another questionable thing while Ebay bra shopping recently. In this case, seeing a catalog photo of a model or dress form in only a bra would be no surprise. One seller uses a mannequin that is nearly obscene in the pose and exaggerated details–since “nipples” has already been mentioned here–those were very prominent. I wondered if they thought a sexy dummy would help sell bras or if they got the mannequin at an adult store closeout sale. Hahah…

I was just thinking, this might actually backfire on the “sellers gone bad” (lol) listings. As I understand Best Match, having a lot of views in proportion to the number of sales actually degrades the listing’s standing in Best Match. If a lot of juvenile males (not necessarily determined by age) are checking out those listing, well…

I’ve seen listings like this before and I just shake my head. Why are women willing to do this to sell $20 items?!?! Why do they feel their worth is so little?

Ryanne, Good question. I gather the seller does sell, so in that respect, it seems to work. But I suppose the seller would have to do an actual A/B test to determine whether her stuff actually benefits from this approach, or would she (or he) actually sell more without it?

Thinking a bit more about it, I think this seller has been doing this for a long time….so at this point, it may be effective as a brand logo….helps to identify the seller’s listings. If everyone did this, it would lose its effectiveness.
