Hello all you good people. I am hoping for your invaluable input as I have NO idea where to even begin on this item.
I got this notebook at a yard/estate sale last weekend with a pile of other things, I just threw it in there because it looked interesting to me. It is a notebook with poems and drawings, the whole book is full of this art.
Have you ever sold something like this before?
What would you call it?
Any recommendations on key words?
Or is it worthless and I should move on?As always, I look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions.
Thank you!

How awesome. This is easy. Call it “Outsider Art”.
We had a similar diary of drawings and art we found at at a thrift store. A woman painted probably 20 small pieces over a period of 40 years.
We sold it to a d-list comedian in LA for a couple hundred dollars.

Oh cool!!!! Thank you Jay, very helpful. Your thoughts on the key words “original art” in addition to outsider art?

Wouldn’t hurt if you have space in your title.
“Outsider Art” is a term that people search for which is why your piece is perfect for it. People love any stories info you have on the work. Where you found it. City. Neighborhood. Artist name if you have it.
We just explained we found it in a bin about to be thrown away, the name of the person who signed the piece, and the town it came from.

Great! I know where it came from but it is not signed.

If you are able to answer this for me, that would be amazing:
Is there a name for this kind of art?
Abstract? Fantasy?
Is the medium ink or magic markers?-

Others here may be of more help.
Check out the Outsider Art: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outsider_art
This is the style. But you could certainly say Magic Marker, Colorful, Abstract, Fantasy, Surreal, Dreamlike.

You obviously have good instincts just by the items you’re scavenging. We’re no experts. Just trust your gut, list, and learn. You’ll quickly become an OG.

Jay, thank you! I am feeling encouraged. This week has been scary soft so it does make one doubt their instincts. Your words came at a good time.
PS: I had to look that up: OG–It’s slang for (and an abbreviation of) Original Gangster. Commonly used to refer to someone who is not a gangster, but is considered highly skilled in a particular area.

OK, I listed it! Let’s see how it goes. If any other suggestions, I am always grateful.

Psychedelic art from the 1970s? Reminds me of the Pot Head Pixies from Planet Gong. I just sold a run of “Raw Art” magazine which specialises in outsider art. These drawings look “sensible” compared to the stuff in the magazines.
Now I’m wondering whether a “d-list comedian” is actually a comedian, or just a monologist.

Or these days, they’re just a podcaster.

this art reminds me of the artwork in the beatles’ Yellow Submarine. So psychedelic is a good key word. Surreal could be another one.

Antique Frog and Sonia thank you for that other key word, I will insert that into the title.
Same artist also did this art https://www.ebay.com/itm/163194407232 but it is not as interesting as the one above in my opinion.
PS I just looked up yellow submarine and that is actually a technical term! Who knew!
