I was very intrigued by the junk drawer callers success so I put one together using the mini-death pile on my work table. :/ Listed it for 45.99 with parcel select shipping included. It sold in less than a week. There are a wide variety of things, none of them worth much as far as my research could tell me. Mostly bottom of the box lot and fill a bag items, even an old jar lid. I have included a link to it on pinterest that hopefully works if you want to see what was in it. This was a fun and satisfying (in the shrinking of a death pile sense) experiment that may become a regular thing for me. Thanks caller!

Very cool. Great experiment. You took great photos and arranged it all very well.
I will say though that I see stuff in that box that we would have listed separately. The pocket knife. The dice (that look to be bakelite). Some cool photos and postcards. But then again, it’s so much easier to sell it all at once. After shipping costs, you probably made $35. Not bad.

Did you get feedback? What was it, if you did? Obvs, we’re all very curious! 😉

The pocket knife and dice were my best items in the lot. I was kind of thinking that a good junk drawer needs to have some treasure to it. The photos and stereo view cards were just for visual interest. And all of this is stuff that has been in my way for at least a year. I could have listed some of it separately for sure. Also, this was kind of fun to choreograph in a way that I thought would garner attention. I have not gotten feedback yet. I’ll report back if I do.

I think you really were genius picking out the items and pricing it. As you said, there are some gems in it and then everything else is visually interesting. Plus you priced it well.
Let us know about future lots. That’s the real key: is this a one off, or a regular seller?

Awesome, thanks for sharing the photo! I put a box together (literally, just the box) after hearing the caller on that podcast, and have been slowly putting random things into it. I’ll share pics when it gets sale-worthy.

In what category did you list it?

Funny timing that Suzanne Wells just posted a video about selling junk drawer lots.
I have not watched it.

I also experimented with listing a Junk Drawer Lot after that caller mentioned it, but mine is not as lovely as yours and could be why I did not get the same results. Here is the listing should it be of interest: https://www.ebay.com/itm/162956530143 Feel free to critique.

@Sigilini – I like it, good looking stuff. Better looking than the somewhat actual junk I am accumulating. 🙂 Perhaps you should add more stuff though; it seems a little small. Also, I personally like to see several shipping options, from First Class or Parcel at the cheap end up to Expedited, if you think the listing warrants it. I would imagine someone interested in the treasures of a junk drawer lot would want some cheaper listing options. My two cents!

I happen to know from experience one of the target audiences for this market–Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. I cooked in a memory care unit for years. Sorting is an activity that many patients enjoy, so activity directors will buy box lots like this and let the patients sort thru them. Then they mix it back up the next day. You could even market towards this idea (all old stuff in the box) and put Alzheimer’s, sorting, activity and dementia in the title. I bet they would sell.

I listed it in Collectibles > Wholesale Lots > Other Collectible Lots. I put another one together yesterday. But thinking about alzheimer’s patients I should look to put one together without knives or other sharp stuff. I also looked at what others have up as junk drawers. It is, as usual per eBay, a very wide variety of “drawers”. Some people have one item in the lot, others have a pile. So Sigilini’s lot is not too small, it’s just waiting for it’s buyer.

Thank you for the feedback (c: I just love this group. Everyone is so helpful and so giving of their time and help. Truly a pleasure to know you.
@SilverFoxFinds re the shipping, you are absolutely correct. I am in CA so that is the extreme left in more ways than one! I found that expedited shipping and parcel select are sometimes only a minor difference and in some cases my parcel select is higher than the expedited. Large items are definitely given the option of parcel select and expedited. This lot is so light weight that the difference would not even registered on anyone’s frugal radar. And I don’t know if one of you is watching my item but after I posted here I noticed that all of the sudden there was more interest in my box lot.
And, like Tam said above, I was SOOOOOOO happy to get this stuff off my desk FINALLY! It was worth it just for that.

Timing is everything.
I had a box of stuff that would have made an awesome Junk Lot that I’d been adding to over the past months. Stuff that I just couldn’t find a way of listing it that worked for me, or was worth listing but less than $10, or was too heavy for me to justify selling it on its own. Flat rate box would have worked perfectly. Buuuuut… I got sick of that box being in the way and took it all to Goodwill the day before the Junk Lot call and posts. 😀 😀 😀
New box starting in 3…2…

Good job! Very nicely done and photoed. My listing has not sold yet, but I am collecting more stuff and will update the listing if still not sold when I am ready to upgrade it.
