Every now and then I get a very odd order or a high price order that I immediately want to see where the buyer lives. Kinda harmless stalking. So I google map the address.
Recent interesting ones.
$500 Book on Essential English Words went to Saudi Arabia, the home looked like a palace.
I had a customer order several FoxFire books, older wilderness survivalist stuff, instead of the name the address said “Leave in the box on the road” and then the Wyoming address. I googled it and the closest thing I could find was a small path near the google pin that led into the woods. I assume USPS driver is familiar with the address because it showed up as delivered.
I have sold about 30 copies of Microsoft Office 2007/2010 to the same buyer. As soon as I post them he immediately buys it. They all go to a small house in Redmond, Washington. I think that is near Microsofts main facilities. I am still waiting for some type of ebay vero letter but it never comes.
Anyone else have any good ones? Am I the only google stalker.

the one i can remember off the top of my head was a woman who was nickle and dime-ing us on a tiny little, cheap travel wallet and obsessed with getting it on time, but would not pay to upgrade to priority. i googled her address to make sure it was correct, and it was this super fancy, huge million dollar house. go figure.

A few months back, I sold an early 80’s pink/purple Disney trucker hat for $125. I had to know who was buying it, and as far as I can tell, it was to one of the Chicago Bulls’ players. Googled his name, and then the address, and they seemed to line up. The high-end condo appears to have been purchased a few months earlier, right around the same time that this player was traded to Chicago from another team.

Michael d, the odds are good that anyone with a sales volume like yours would get some interesting addresses but that FoxFire buyer takes the cake. Youโd think any survivalist worth their salt would already have the set but who knows, maybe they wore their copies out! I am part time, low volume but have many foreign sales. I always Google Map the addresses. Often the street address wonโt register in a search but I can at least get the town or city. The most interesting lately have been the Israelis โ I had 5 or 6 sales there in 2016. I had stuff go to Beersheba in the southern desert, a couple things to seacoast cities like Ashdod, and one item go to a communal settlement called Shimshit, north of Nazareth.

Temudgin,
Since most of its FBA I usually do not see the addresses. When I run my monthly reports I like to look up the top sellers and if its interesting I will map it out.

I sold an old Apple Mac laptop case to one of the big-wigs at Apple. I don’t remember the guy’s name anymore, but it went to Apple’s corporate HQ, addressed to “Ms. So-and-So, Assistant to Mr. Big Important Dude”. His buying history said he buys a lot of vintage Apple stuff. Not sure if it’s for his personal collection, or if he buys for the Apple archive.

The Wyoming one might have been for an indian reservation. I had an address once that was something like “1 mile north of fire station” in a city in.. I think it was Wyoming.

Well about 15 years ago, I listed an item. Within hours the priced soared. I had people messaging me and saying you know who is bidding on it right? NO Anyhow it was my highest item I have ever sold. The highest bidder was a woman that owned a stock brokerage house. She also owned thoroughbred horses. Famous for both. I think she was in Tennessee. She actually called me and we talked for a bit. I think I was so floored by the sale, that I was nonplused by her being famous. We didn’t have Google Maps back then. I’m sure I would have Googled her address and do a drive by.

I had a fun one recently. I sold a deck of playing cards, that was going to Broadway, NYC. turns out the person is in charge of shoots for a major clothing designer. Now I just keep stalking their catalog hoping my silly little playing cards show up ๐

Has anyone ever been to a movie studio tour? We did the Warner Brother Hollywood tour 2 summers ago, and got to roam around one of the prop storage buildings. I can imagine there are people out there whose job it is to buy vintage items for prop use. How fun would that be? I once did sell a 70s hand painted garden gnome to “Fox Searchlight Pictures” in NYC. Now I keep looking for it on TV. ๐

We have had some crazy locations over the years. Years ago We sold a cookbook to Sean Connery’s chef on his yacht, and we had to use a fed ex account to get it to arrive when they docked. The chef was very thankful and that worked out.
One address in India was 7 lines long and had “In Alley Behind Hotel”. He ordered a ton of antique books so we were trepidatious but it got there.
Our most recent was a bible cover to “Enter thru chain link fence, leave in metal box at post”
So yeah the addresses can be strange.

I’ve had 3 sales to interesting buyers:
A vintage suitcase to a company that buys vintage items in order to make replicas for shop window displays.
A vintage baby book that went to a home in Beverly Hills. I googled the address and there were two semi-famous actresses listed at the address.
A lot of decorator books for an instant library that also went to Beverly Hills and the semi-famous actress who bought them used her own name on her address and Paypal account, which surprised me.

I can’t believe I forgot about this one.
So, a few months ago, I received a notification that 2 military-themed snapback hats sold on ebay. It was really late at night, so I went to bed, thinking I would box them up in the morning. Before I even turned out the light to go to sleep, the buyer had started a chargeback on the hats. Not a request to cancel, not a return, but a chargeback. I thought “That’s kind of odd”. Looked up the buyer name and address, and it rang a bell. Did a google search to confirm.
It was Bowe Bergdahl’s mom. No idea what all that was about, and I’m sure I don’t really want to know.

Wow, I guess I need to stalk my buyers a bit more. I’ve sold some vintage Nintendo stuff to a prop house in Atlanta and a vintage German picnic set to another prop house in New Jersey, never really looked them up to see what they were all about but the address said “props dept” so I knew it was some sort of prop house.
