Interesting. My Poshmark username/listings/images come up when I Google my real life name. Anyone know how to stop this? I don’t like it. No Ebay info shows up.

I don’t know how to stop it but I wish I did. It’s unnerving the amount of information that is out there. I was on a bank website yesterday attempting a transaction that prompted a series of multiple choice questions that were intended to identify me. I’ve run into these before and they can be a bit bizarre and really make you reach deep into memory. For example they list a number of addresses and ask if you lived at any of them. But yesterday one of the questions was “Betty Smith lives in ______?” and gave four different cities. “Betty Smith” (not her real name) was my first wife. Our (no fault) divorce was final in 1988.

Welcome to the internet. Is your personal name attached to your Poshmark store publicly? Thats the only way it would pop up. If true, then just change the name of your Poshmark store to something generic.

That’s what has me stumped. My Poshmark store name is not my personal name. I did some searching before my original post yesterday, but couldn’t figure out if this is a “thing” with Poshmark.
Would someone else that has a Poshmark store do a search of their real name and see if their Poshmark store comes up in results? If it’s specific to me, maybe there’s something I need to change on my account.

Mine is the second result when I google my name. The first is an instagram account with the same name as my poshmark account that is not mine. However I used a nickname for my first name so I’m not too worried but I would rather it wasn’t that easy to find…

Thanks for checking, Elle. Guess it’s not just me.

Think I fixed it. In your Poshmark profile, it asks for both your store name and your real name. Apparently that profile info is public. Changed my “real name” in the profile to an alias. Hopefully, except for cached stuff, that’ll stop it from happening.

Thanks Terri I just went and changed it too. 🙂

I had the same thing happen, so I changed my first and last name to be the first and second words of my store/closet name. Eventually, it propagated through the search engines.
On a second note, have you noticed that the Poshmark shipping label includes the buyers Poshmarks user name? Naturally, the buyers full name and address is on the label, but the “user name” exposed too? I would think this would be kept private.

Great idea to change your first and last name to the store name. I just used an alias with the same initials as my real name, but I think I’ll change it again and do what you did.
I just googled my name(s) again to see if my store showed up any more and it’s already gone, at least from the first page.
Never noticed the label thing. I’ve only sold a few things on Poshmark so far, but I’m really just getting started there. I’ll take a look if/when I sell my next item.
Thanks for the name change suggestion.

I used my eBay moniker as the name for a Wikipedia account. I got caught up in a dispute between a deranged UK-based editor and an Alabama editor (as did several others). Crazy guy gets kicked off Wikipedia, takes his crusade to an anti-Wikipedia site, gets kicked off that for being offensive, and sets up a website specifically to attack the Alabama editor. Starts getting curious as to who I am, and also starts inviting prisoners in a jail near Manchester to contact him. At that point I finally realise that my eBay account has my home address, so I quickly change my eBay moniker before this effwit turns up on my doorstep with a bunch of thugs.
I learnt a lot about online expression of personality disorders from the thug life on Wikipedia.

I don’t know if you still care about this but I was updating my poshmark setting and came across a place in the “sharing settings” that gives you a toggle for whether or not you want your listings visible to Google.
Try turning it off and waiting a day or so to search your name, I bet the listings don’t come up any more. -

Everything’s okay since I changed the name over there to my store name rather than my first and last. Just checked and none of my listings are showing up anymore when I google my name, but thanks for the tip.
