A bunch of html code always comes up in my item description under the html tag and I have to remove it every time because it causes ebay to display this message:
“We found the following active content in your listing: Javascript. To make eBay a more secure marketplace, we’ll hide all active content from buyers in June 2017. ”
I’ve never used active content. Any ideas how to get rid of this from my html tab on item description?
Well, I tried to post the html here but I keep getting a 403 Forbidden error.

Where is the code coming from? Are you still using an html template in your description? if so, who made it?

That’s what I’m wondering. Where is this code coming from? I’d like to stop it coming up since I have to remove it to avoid the javascript message from ebay. My item description comes up blank under the Standard tab, but there’s a bunch of code under the HTML tab.

So you’re not using any template in your description? It’s just blank and the code is there?
If so, post a screenshot here.

Huh, I’ll let someone else who knows how to read code tell you what it’s trying to do. Our blank templates are just that: blank
–Did you ever use a template before? Maybe this is trying to call up a template you used to use.
–Are you doing “sell similar” from an old listing that has carried over that html? -

I use a template now but only for verbiage that never changes. I have to insert that template manually though. The item description always comes up blank in the Standard tab, then I add the verbiage template. Never used any active content. No, not doing sell similar. I nearly always start from scratch.

We had that issue when we added an eBay extension to our Safari browser. Do you have eBay extensions on your browser? It went away once we removed the extension (can’t recall what the extension was though)

pythonesk,
Is the html coding coming up when you create a listing or when you revise or sell similar?
Are you using a phone, laptop or PC for listings and are they new or revised/sell similar?
I ask these questions because (based on my understanding) it effects why html code comes up.
If you are creating a new listing, you should not see any coding in the standard or html tabs. The html tab is there for those who wish to “code” their listing.
If you are revising a listing and/or using sell similar, you most likely see code because of what has already been created and coded on the platform.
It appears that ebay has a programming issue in the description section with phone revisions because what used to just appear as text that can be changed now appears as HTML coding which can be very complex to understand much less change.

AdventureE – It appears for every new listing. I don’t usually do any sell similar. I’m using a laptop running Windows 10. It’s a mystery.

Hmm. That might be a program coding thing ebay will have to address on your individual account.

And you haven’t ever turned on one of those 3rd party apps in eBay? Like the ones that insert maps into your listings or the scroll bar showcasing items in your store?

@joeMEZZ – opened an inprivate session and the same thing did not happen, but I had to open a new ebay account, etc, so nothing whatsoever looked the same.

Here is one more idea before calling ebay.
Create a blank draft.
Click on create listing
Type in blank for the listing title.
Go down to the description area and clear out anything showing in the standard or html tab.
Click save to keep the draft. If ebay programming works as to continue based in the previous one, this should clear any coding.
Now create a new listing as normal and see if there is any html coding.

@AdventureE – Sorry to say that didn’t work either. Guess I’ll have to spend a couple hours on the phone with ebay…. or just keep deleting the unwanted html. Thanks to everyone who tried to figure it out.

@AdventureE – Aha! It doesn’t happen in Chrome or IE at work. At home I used MS Edge. Thanks very much!
