So I was dumpster diving for boxes today and found a whole lot of single brand new cowboy boots at the back of a store that closed. I did not take them…
By the time I got home, I was completely tormented! Should I or should’t I go back for them. I looked and looked on Ebay with a bunch of key words, like crafting, boot vase, etc. and could not find a market for one single cowboy boot. Ugg boots yes! But cowboy boots no.
But still I am wondering, should I have taken those boots?
Your valued opinions are welcome.
-
01/16/2018 at 11:51 pm #30613
What do you mean by single boots?
As for the boot concept itself, cowboy boots are huge in the Southern states such as Texas. Since they were new, free, and in the dumpster and then you couldn’t find any listed, you could have tested the market. You may have wanted to use the list them and forget method and then considered them as long tail items.

Search the term “amputee boot”. Now go back and get them.
Good luck.

If you don’t want them, let me know where they are and I might grab them….
Thanks

Alas, they are gone! Someone with more forethought than I got ’em. Either that or the guy sleeping in the corner of the parking lot thought it was manna from heaven and I was tempted but decided to leave him alone.

Always remember when dumpster diving.. (Or rummaging at the dumps swap shop)the return policy is great!

One thing I’ve learned being a picker. If it’s in the trash, throw it in the back of the truck and debate later.
The absolute worst that happens is you put it back out for trash, because it turns out to be trash…and that’s seldom. I donate stuff by the truckload, and put a lot out for other pickers some times because I find way too much for one person to deal with at times.
-
01/19/2018 at 1:04 pm #30786
Absolutely, that was a lesson well learned, “shoot” first and ask questions later! It’s not worth the anxiety to leave it behind!

There’s some nice stuff in the “Free” section today on Craigslist. Someone in Sylmar has 14 pallets of Alcohol Preps and disinfectants. My brain churning.. How do I make money on those?
-
01/19/2018 at 5:19 pm #30816
I saw it, it has been up for days. I researched it and I was not comfortable selling an unknown brand. I think they were manufactured in Sylmar based on my research. Maybe it was a failed project…
-
01/19/2018 at 6:18 pm #30820
I have no problem selling an unknown brand, but picking up, transporting and storing 14 pallets, without a truck and a warehouse, is a logistical nightmare. Add to that selling and shipping anything liquid and it’s just out of my range.
Just the same it is tempting…

Awesome! And to make up for my failure with the boots, I picked up a whole box of soccer trophies today for free. I have no idea what will happen with them but they are all mine!
-
01/21/2018 at 11:53 pm #30956
Cool.. the trophies should sell. If some are a little boring or have damaged sections, you can take them apart and sell the tops in lots for crafts etc.
Make sure you state whether the tops are metal or plastic in the listings..
Good deal on the freebies..

Sigilini,
Maybe the boots weren’t meant for you. Maybe you would have spent time on them only to find they did not sell. Maybe instead the soccer trophies will be your money maker. We all make mistakes in this ebay selling process because it’s just part of the process. Good for you for picking up and moving forward with your sourcing opportunities.
Best Wishes with your trophy sales.-

I wonder if this is a real free ad. 20,000 free records. I can’t possibly handle this and I’ve never sold a record, so I’m going to pass.. timing in life is key.
Maybe Paul or Sigilini wants to give it a shot..
The link isn’t working. It’s in the Los Angeles Craigslist Free section 1/28.

Hi Joe, thank you for thinking of me and sending the message. I in fact thought of you too the other day when there was a really great free listing in Long Beach but I figured you probably saw it. Cannot remember what it was right now.
I could not find the listing you mentioned… but anyway, I would not know what to do with 20K records!!!! I did pick up some wrought iron chandeliers last night from a person that listed on CL and she was a couple of blocks away. Whoop Whoop!

Joe, there is an awesome table in LB Wooden coffee table (69 Claremont Ave. Long Beach)
Sell the legs!!! Good stuff. -

If you put “records” in the search box under the free section, it’s still there.

I see the table.. very cool. Thanks

Joe, do you have any recommendations on what to focus on when I go for those books on Saturday?
I would appreciate any pointers from you if you want to share. -
02/08/2018 at 10:42 am #32522
As a general rule the older the better. I focus on the World War 2 era or older.
I do well with religious books, technical books and some yearbooks. I try to find books on very specific topics, such as small towns or individual military units. The more narrow focused, the better.
First editions are great, but are no guarantee of value. Also It can get tricky, determining if the book is the first printing or a true first edition.
I’m always looking for signatures from the author or other famous people. If it’s also dated, that’s better.
Encyclopedias or other sets look good, but require a lot of storage and take time to sell. Unless they’re very special, I stay away from these.
Cook books sell well for some.. but not for me.
Don’t do too much research on site.. just grab and go. Be prepared to bring home boxes and boxes. Books are very heavy, so you may need help or a cart.
Like anything else, research is key. When I acquire a hoard of books, I look them all over and begin to group them into similar piles. I pick out the ones with value, that I can sell by themselves. After this, I start grouping books together I can sell in lots.
What’s left generally gets donated. You’ll probably end up donating more than half the books you bring home.
If this ends up being a large find, you may end up bringing home hundreds of heavy dusty books. Fill up the car, after all they’re free. Sometimes the least likely book, will have the real value. You really won’t know what you’ve got until later.. sometimes much later.
Again.. the value is in the research. Knowing what you have and creating a great listing will bring home the money.
Good Luck

My best book sales have always been books with a very narrow topic or of a specific local interest…
Then other books are worthless:

By the way a couple of weeks ago I picked up a bunch of free vintage TV Repair books from the 60s and 70s. I listed the ones that I thought I could sell individually and sold one so far and as Joe said, I grouped some of the lesser interesting ones together and sold the bundle for $25.00. Not big money but it adds up.

02/10/2018 at 2:27 pm #32649
When we sold books on Amazon, isnt it as simple as just scanning all the books? You’ll immediately know if its worth selling. Several times we were given 6-7 boxes of books. After scanning, we kept one box and donated the rest.
-
02/10/2018 at 4:26 pm #32659
Thanks Joe! Do you research history when you list a book? Would you be willing to share a listing of one of your books?
Can you explain more about what you said about Amazon? (I don’t list there anyway but just curious what you mean.)Jay, I don’t list on Amazon but just so I understand, what do you mean by “scan”? You have a scanner? This is new territory for us.
-
02/10/2018 at 4:38 pm #32666
Both the eBay and Amazon phone apps have a scanner. In the top search bar where you type words, there’s a little “barcode” icon. Just click and it turns your camera into a scanner. Scan the barcode and eBay/Amazon will tell you how much the book is being sold for on the platform. Amazon even tells you the ranking, how often it sells, and what your profit will be after fees.
What’s crazier is that you can just point the phone’s camera at an item, and it can often identify it and give you a price. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUPcp9jC5Nc
Even though we no longer sell on Amazon, I still use the scanner when scavenging to get a sense of what books or new items go for. I use eBay as well but Amazon gives more detailed info.

Good deal,,
Now is the fun, listing the cream of the crop..
After that is the work…
It will take a while to work your way through it all.
Keep us advised on what gems are in the boxes.
Way to go.
-
02/10/2018 at 3:59 pm #32656
I guess it all depends on who you’re selling the book to. Amazon tends to deal with books as a commodity. There aren’t a lot of details or photographs. I guess people are buying them to read. Selling books on Amazon, may be similar to selling… I Phone cases.? It’s all about price.
I try to present books as much more. What edition is it and what makes it special. Is it signed.. and by who? What was going on in the world when it was printed. It’s hard to compare a first edition printed in the 1930’s to a current printing of the same book. It becomes a matter of finding the customer that cares for the original and presenting it well.
Then you take what’s left and try to group them in lots of 2 to 6 books, that will sell for at least $25. It’s work.. sometimes a lot of work.
What’s left go back into the donation pile.

02/10/2018 at 6:17 pm #32673
(re-posting for Joe just in case it got lost in the message sequences)
Thanks Joe! Do you research history when you list a book? Would you be willing to share a listing of one of your books?
Can you explain more about what you said about Amazon? (I don’t list there anyway but just curious what you mean.)-
02/10/2018 at 8:36 pm #32679
Many of the books I sell fall into the category Jay is referring to. You look it up or scan it. You look at the for sale and the solds and come up with a price.. Done.
If there are not a lot of examples for sale, or the only examples available were printed much later than yours, you may have to do a little more research. If its an obscure book of an obscure place or event, you may have to do a little more research.
Much of the research will enable you enhance your title and description. If you want to get a premium price for your book, you need to be able to tell the buyer why it deserves it. Sometimes, I’ll research the subject or sometimes the author.
I found a very old Bible in a box lot once. It was dated 1830.. Wow. This is Pre Civil war. Andrew Jackson was the president. There were no cars or telephones or even electricity. Slavery was legal and widespread in this country.. I’m sure the stories in this bible are not that much different than the ones in bibles printed today.. but believe me, I needed a different buyer.
Somehow, this fragile paper bible ended up in my box lot.
When I’m listing a book, I try to get a feel what the world was like, when it was written. was it Pre WW2, The Kennedy Assassination, Watergate or even 911? Was it written before television, microwave ovens or the internet existed? Were there equal rights, birth control and twitter?
Did this book change the world?.. Did it make Truman Capote a household word and later Audrey Hepburn a timeless icon of beauty and fashion.
I think it just comes down to treating the books the same as anything we sell on Ebay.. proper research, good descriptions and great photos are the answer.
You are more than welcome to look at my listings. They are fairly concise, but I feel complete. some of the older ones aren’t so good, but the more recent ones follow a standard procedure.
Try to keep it fun. Books can be ever so boring.

Very informative thread and post.
Thanks All!
-
02/10/2018 at 8:51 pm #32682
Wow, Joe, I am not sure that I can come up to that standard. My dad is like you, he remembers when this war was, and who was president, and when the Jews left and came back and went here and there. Oy! And my uncle too, a professor of university. Not me, I have a terrible perception of time related events. But I will definitely do what I can do to get those books listed.
I don’t think I know your store or how to find it. Do you have a link to one of your items? I can take it from there.
-
-
-
-
02/10/2018 at 8:57 pm #32683
Just for fun, pretend in your box lot, you found a “Gone with the Wind” book, printed 1936 by Margaret Mitchell. Look it up on Ebay, then look it up on Amazon.
What’s it worth? It varies greatly.
You can see the Amazon listings don’t have as much individual details as the Ebay listings, so researching Amazon prices may not give you the information you need for a book like this.
You’ll also need to know what edition.. first, ok what printing? What is the date of printin? Is the dust cover included? Have the corners been cut from the dust cover. What is the condition of the book? Does it have writing in it.. etc etc etc.
-
02/10/2018 at 9:07 pm #32685
Joe, I feel like I need to pay you in books for the consultation. You have been amazingly helpful and generous with your time and information. I cannot thank you enough. Truly. I picked up a bible today and if it is worth anything, I want to send it to you.
Yes, I think it will boil down to picking up one book and then the next and so on.
If you want to share the name of your store or provide a link to one of your items, I can see how you have been listing and learn by example too.

Thank you, Joe. Extremely helpful, as usual. I have been reviewing and studying your listings on and off today — am I right to assume that if no ISBN you list in “Books> Antiquarian & Collectible” but if you have an ISBN you will use the automatic listing category?
-
02/11/2018 at 10:36 pm #32713
Wow.. it was never planned that way. It doesn’t sound like a bad way to go in the beginning though.
I just list each book according to what I think it is and where my buyer will expect to find it.

02/15/2018 at 3:35 pm #33100
It’s been a few days now since you’ve scored your cache of “FREE” books and other items. Is it “It doesn’t get any better than that”..or.. “Be careful what you wish for.”
Have you done a lot of listing and purging yet, or is it all sitting there. The first time you do something like this, it can be a bit overwhelming. In the long run it’s all good.
Any Diamonds in the rough.. or gold bars ?

02/15/2018 at 5:40 pm #33111
OMG Joe, you totally nailed it. I am so overwhelmed! My living room is not my own anymore and the garage! I cannot even talk about it. My husband is out there as I write this throwing old things out to make room. My mom is coming tomorrow to help me so that I can start putting order into this crazy mess. And all this week I am just working on clearing my kitchen counter and dining room table so that I can reclaim some personal space. Thanks for checking in, I appreciate it no end.

02/15/2018 at 6:19 pm #33123
Yes.. been there done that.
Last year I bought over 1500 NOS T-shirts, hoodies and jackets. There were over 20 full boxes. It was months, before I had inspected them all, never mine listed them…. Later, I bought two sizable lots of books, many of which are in the German language.. I’m almost done with those.
Once you start your research, you’ll be purging quite a lot of the books.
Good luck..
-
02/15/2018 at 6:29 pm #33130
So you understand! I need the luck cause I have no brain cells left! I will keep you posted. I am working on getting through a whole lot of vintage ornaments and nearly done with those.

02/16/2018 at 5:24 pm #33221
This is a dilemma I run into pretty frequently. Last week I sourced about 30 NOB fluorescent light fixtures for $15. There is not much sold history but amazon has them priced high and a couple solds on ebay for $100+ each.
Trouble is they are bulky, super slow sellers. I call them century plants: good return but they take forever.
I am kind of irrationally scared of being stuck with junk. This is something I’m trying to get over because a trip to the dump only costs me $10 and an hour.
-
02/17/2018 at 7:15 am #33234

This week, someone was giving away thousands of very large semigloss sheets of Paper. I really thought about taking a ride to get them, for packing.
You can’t get everything. The time to get them and the space to keep them becomes as valuable as the money you are saving. A couple of weeks from now, I’ll be wishing I got them.
-
02/17/2018 at 12:47 pm #33242
Yes, it really came home to me this week that I cannot take it all, leave some for others (c: My kitchen counters look much better and my living room is only 25% full of stuff right now. Garage is at 90%. Not started on the books yet… I have to get my taxes done and out of the way so they are finished. Oy!

Wow Marjean28, good job! I learned my lesson with the boots in the dumpster (leaving them behind) that last week while dumpster diving for boxes I found some really great straw baskets (new) behind a shopping mall… look like they have some defects but nothing major. Have not listed them yet!

When it rains, it pours..
On my way to donating 4 large boxes of stuff, I noticed a big pile being made, in front of one of my neighbors houses. Sure enough a relative passed away and all this stuff was being trashed.
I found a large lot of “Mr Potato Head” pieces. A box filled with various assorted Christmas ornaments, a cast iron skillet with lid and other various items.
I ended up with as much stuff as I donated.
I also hit a free Ad, as a man was downsizing from a house to a 1 bedroom apt. I got a few items but met some really nice people.

If I brought money with me, I think I could have done a lot better. They had tons of free stuff, but a lot more that they didn’t want to give away, but would have taken just about anything for. I think $50 would have absolutely filled up the car.
Dad is relocating and my understanding is every little bit of money helps.
There were suitcases, but the ones I already have don’t sell. There was also lots of furniture.
In a couple of weeks they are going to do the major purge and really clean it out. While I was there, they were making room for the dumpster.
I ended up with a few books and a brand new pair of boots.
They were real nice people. If I’d known the situation, I definitely would have brought some money with me.

Copy that Steven, thank you! I will be on the look out for them.

Sigilini,
For the second recorder that says Standard on it, you may want to look under Cassette Deck Player recorder. That looks like something an educational institute might use. If you havn’t already, you may want to list it with a price compariable to the other Cassette Deck Players. Make sure you include all identifying information in your listing in order to make it easy to find. -

Akai is a good brand. Even if it’s broken I bet you’ll get 50 outta that reel to reel. If it works, a couple hundred.
That tape recorder doesn’t look that amazing and I’ve never heard of the brand. But who knows?

Thank you Simplicio, your input is much appreciated. I think you are correct on both counts. I did a little research last night on both items and so far it agrees with your assessment.

I have started listing the books, finally! I have a books category in my store… first book is up! So far nothing in the hundreds of dollars, mostly bread and butter stuff but unique. Some books are already in the “to be donated” box.

Good Deal..
Depending on what you have, you may want to actually create more than one book category in your store. (Books Text, Books Music, Books Religious etc. or whatever applies to your cache.)
It will make things easier to manage later on when you have a lot more listed.
The more you list, the easier it will get.
Good Luck

Unless there’s something special about it, That seems like a pretty low price seller.
I’d place it in the pile for possible bundling or donate. You never know though.
For now I’d be creating 3 piles 1-List.. 2-Maybe.. and 3-Donate. The maybe list would be for bundling or a 2nd look.
Nothing fun yet.. any books from the 1800s.
-
02/22/2018 at 9:51 am #33648
Copy that, on the Guinness.
I have not gone through all the books yet but getting close. I cannot recall if there was 1800’s because I was not looking out for it but I believe mostly 1940-1970’s. There might be one or two 1800’s and I will be more alert to them now that you mentioned it.
I already took several boxes to the thrift store last night. I had to make room! Most were late 20th century books that are very plentiful on Amazon. My husband was inspired to let go some of his books so they were included in that batch.
Currently I have piles sorted by subject, I have a small pile of “to list” on my desk and I am going to go through the other boxes now to see if there was anything else worth keeping.
Some of the piles are:(most without an ISBN)
Religious and Bibles (not sure how to date the Bibles)
Old college chemistry
Old Nautical/Navy
Old Music/song
Child/Mom/Wife
Poems
Fiction books in several piles not sure what to do with them yet. There are two directories: not sure of their value. I did some research but have not come up with anything yet. Do you happen to have an opinion on those?
1977 Caltech Directory of Institute Personnel
Rensselaer Directory of AlumniAnd there is a Alpha Gamma Delta Quarterly Golden Anniversary Issue 1904-1954. I did some research but come up with nothing on it yet.
Thank you again for all your amazing coaching. I really do owe you for this and I hope to somehow repay you for all your kindness.

Dating Bibles can be tricky, if there’s no date on them. You have to look at similar items and do a lot of guessing. Sometimes people will sign and date them when given as gifts. You can also look at the publisher or the keywords ie: Red Letter, Self pronouncing etc.
Very specific directories tend to be long tail items, but if there aren’t any out there, they should eventually sell. Unless there is something really special about them, you’re probably looking at $20 to $60.
Selling and pricing books is not that much different than anything else. Research research research… Of course condition is also very important.
Don’t forget to bundle..
Good Luck

Thank you, got it on the Bibles and will check that out.
And absolutely, bundle bundle bundle. I have a BUNCH of flower growing books in a box already.
Thanks again!

OK, you were right, Joe, it does get easier. I finished going through all the boxes and I feel more relaxed now that I know what I have (and don’t have). All bread and butter stuff. Nothing really major. Good practice for me on looking up books and getting to understand what is good and what is not. I have the directories listed and listed a couple of books. I should be able to move through them more quickly now.

The Thomas Guide will sell for sure. I always pick those up Pre-1980.
The Kettle Falls book looks like a winner. You may want to rework the title though. You’ve got great information in the description (Key Words) and a very brief title. I like these very specific low volume books. There’s always someone looking for them.
It’s the only one out there, so raise the price to $29.95 and charge for shipping. It’s long tail either way, you may as well get paid for your labors.
I sold an obscure unknown book once, that was signed by the author. The buyer actually knew the author when she was a child and was very excited she found the book. I was very excited she bought the book too. I think I sold it for $32, but probably could have gotten more. Oh well sold is sold and I made someone happy.
I like what you’ve listed so far. Once you start listing bundles, your piles will shrink pretty quick.

02/22/2018 at 10:09 pm #33739
Thank you for the very very helpful feedback, Joe, much appreciated. I changed the title to: Saga of Kettle Falls (Date? 1975) by Orville Dutro of Colville Stevens County WA — I am assuming that was what you had in mind, yes? And raised the price as you suggested. Thank you!
I had to take a break from listing to pick up free wallpaper (c: and go to Trader Joe’s and make dinner.
Q: When you bundle books, what is your method in determining which books might go together? I know some are very obvious, i.e. I have 3 or 4 books about etiquette, I have a whole bunch of books about gardens and flowers. The ones that get me a little unsure are like this bunch of books about being a women, motherhood, babies, birth, and housekeeping… or a bunch of college text books not all the same topic — they all seem to me to go together — not all the same topic but they are very closely related. I am struggling with titles and if in fact they all do go together.
Any suggestions?
The good thing about our conversation here is that hopefully others are getting the benefit of your knowledge as well.
-
02/23/2018 at 2:03 am #33750
Regarding the bundling, go with your instincts. There’s no secret formula to it. Just imagine yourself the buyer and take it from there. If the books really have no value, it’s better to donate them and make room for profitable stuff that will move.

For the most part I agree with the books you’ve been listing. I think it was worth the effort to get them.
You have a different style to your listings, than I do. I try to put all the pertinent information in the title and the condition report. I don’t trust people to take the initiative to read the description.
Your listings are different, but that doesn’t mean they’re wrong. You are getting your share of sales, so who’s to say what is best. In the end the sales tell the story.
Good luck with the rest of them.
By the way.. nice sale on the boots..
-
02/26/2018 at 12:15 am #33842
Thank you Joe, I was so focused on getting them up that I missed that fine point. But it’s a good point and I will work on getting the condition noted in the condition report as well. Thank you once again.
How the heck did you know about the boots?

And I am re-looking at your listings now so I can see better now what you mean. It’s been a bit overwhelming (books EVERYWHERE) and it has been hard to evaluate what data is most important for the title, but now that I am looking at your listings I get what you mean.

Joe, this one is interesting https://www.ebay.com/itm/162920322229 I already had an inquiry about it from what looks like a pro book buyer. Maybe I priced it too low… not sure. By the time you read this it might be sold.

Joe, may I please ask for your opinion (again!)?
I have a 1942 wartime pamphlet from the US Chamber of Commerce called Fighting Through to Victory… I see none others like it.
List?
Don’t bother?
Price range?
Best way to list it? Historical, Wartime…As always, your input is invaluable.
-
03/20/2018 at 9:22 pm #35703
List it for sure.. Without seeing it it’s tough to say a price, but generally between $20 and $60 depending on details condition etc. Period stuff always sell.
I sold a worn out WW2 recruiting pamphlet that unfolded into a poster. It was pretty worn out and had a stamp dated 1942, from a politician’s office in Northern California. I think I got $35 or $40 for it and it went to Northern California.
You’ve been doing fine so far, just follow your instincts.

Hi Siglini,
I wanted to reach out and ask you about some of your photos from your recent book cache. Or, I should say, offer some feedback. I’ve bet selling books on eBay, the Nextdoor app locally, amazon, and now, of late, Etsy.I could be wrong, but I didn’t find a photo of the copyright page in a few of the listings I looked at. For a number of buyers, particularly of vintage, it’s s sought after piece of information.
When I research older books without a barcoded ISBN, I first go to ABE Books to get the best information.
I used to bundle books is on eBay, but now I list them on Etsy because the allow variations in the book category, so it makes it almost free to post them there.
Good luck!!!-
03/21/2018 at 3:29 am #35719
Hi Marjean, thank you very much for your feed back. I really appreciate that you took the time to look at my listings. That means a lot to me.
If you did not see the copyright page then it was an oversight on my part because I usually include it, unless I bundle books in which case I might not have included any.
I envy the folks that can list on multiple sites. I am barely keeping up with one. I am embarrassed to say that 9 listings a day is about my average and I work all day! I have not yet grasped how to sync and double post quickly. From what I read etsy takes some learning, or am I wrong?
I attempted posting on cl, offerup and letgo on a couple of items but it hardley seems worth doing
I am hoping to catch up with you guys soon and alway appreciate any feed back that is offered so thank you again.

Hi Joe, thank you for your comment on the What Sold section.
Yes, things have loosened up lately and I am feeling very encouraged. You have been a HUGE help in raising my confidence and helping me understand how to sell books. I sell books every week now. Those magazines I was talking about in the other thread, SOLD! This guy from Thousand Oaks wanted nearly all of them and we made a deal for 300.00. I go to Porter Ranch anyway for shopping, it’s about half way between Thousands Oaks and my house, so he and I met up yesterday and I gave him the mags. And I got them for free! They are very specific by the way so if you ever see them they are called Mountain Bike Action. It was just a lucky find, I believe, but be on the look out.
Also, just a tip, in case you are not already familiar with this, but Letgo has a free section and I find that I don’t get as much competition there from others who are looking for the free stuff.
Thanks for being there, I cannot say how much I have appreciated your help.

Darn, I’m too late to this thread. Looks like good keywords would have been “Creative Selling” “Business Psychology 1960s Psychology.” From what I’m reading about him, it sounds almost like his techniques utilized proto-NLP, so I probably would’ve used “NLP” as a keyword.
If you have anymore booklets by him, price them higher. They seem like genuinely rare & desirable 1960s kook business psychology booklets, hence why they sold so quickly.

04/20/2018 at 3:37 pm #38049
I searched for him on Google and read the little blurbs about him underneath the Google Books and Los Angeles Times Newspaper links. I found the following info:
I learned it from Al Tomsik, a friend of mine who used to interrogate Japanese prisoners of war during World War II. He told me that when he used this technique it was certain he would eventually persuade the prisoner to give him the information he wanted. He said it was so powerful that even prisoners who came into the …

I glanced at a few of the other links about him, and saw him referenced in other current business books of the past 10 or so years. Since I can’t find instances of his books for sale, or ones having been sold prior to this, I can infer that his books are actually desirable, though hard to come by.
I don’t think that you could get a whole lot of money for them if you found them again, but I would feel comfortable pricing them for at least $35+ in the future.
