Looks like a post from C.T. got hit by the special SL glitch where an edit too quickly after the post will wipe the whole thing off. I’m reposting for him:
Found a ton of video game stuff in a couple of dumpsters I routinely hit near my apartment the other day. The weird thing was that it was scattered across three dumpsters, all right next to each other, in different kinds of bags. Regular garbage bags, reusable tote bags, WalMart bags, etc.
There’s a number of handheld systems including 2 Nintendo DS Lites, a DSi, a 25th anniversary DSi, a Hannah Montana PSP (lol), a Game Boy Advance SP, and a Wii. Around 60-70 games in the little pouch there. Unfortunately most of the cases were empty. I’m a Pokemon collector, so I was extremely excited to see all of the Pokemon cases, but alas. Not gonna look some gift trash in the mouth, haha.
Loose speculation re: secondhand market value…$750-$1,000. But we’ll see the real numbers as I get it all listed and sold. Already have most of it up, and the more desirable things have started to move.
PS: Would anyone be interested if I were to put together albums of the stuff I find in the trash each week? Usually it’s pretty mundane stuff, but it’s always crazy to see what people throw away, lol.

The SL edit the post too fast glitch is how you know that you truly belong in these forums. 🙂

I would be really interested to see this. There are a few guys in my small town who drive around the day before trash collection and fill up their pickup truck bed with scrap metal and whatever else of value that was left out at the curb. I always want to stop them and find out their whole deal. How do they get rid of all that stuff? How much work do they have to put in to modify/fix the stuff they find? How much profit do they really make?
It really is amazing how easily people just throw stuff out.

You should check out the blog “Things I find in the Garbage” at: https://garbagefinds.com/. He hasn’t posted recently, but it is amazing how much stuff including gold and silver he finds thrown out on the streets in Montreal, Canada.
And @sharyn, It would be great to see images of what you find. That video game and console haul you made was fantastic and must have been exciting when you discovered what you came across. I’m getting too old to go jumping in and out of dumpsters now, but I use to hit up Apple, Atari, Intellivision, and many other dumpsters in Silicon Valley years ago. I miss those days, most companies have compactors now.

@steve-list – To be clear, I was reposting this for C.T. because his post was eaten up by the famous Scavenger Life glitchy glitch. I’ve found a few things here and there in my neighborhood, but I don’t do the dumpster diving that C.T. has perfected. Hopefully, he will see this and post some photos.

Thanks for the clarification.

It always amazed me how much good stuff he pulled out of the garbage. Sales run at about 22,000 CAD as far as I remember. His latest post July 7th relates his struggles with existential OCD (panic attacks, agoraphobia) over a decade.

Thanks for reposting this for me! Sorry I went AWOL for a couple of days, lol.
Oh, man, Martin from Garbage Finds brings me back! I used to follow his blog religiously probably 6-7 years ago. He always got the coolest stuff, too. Really helped open my eyes to the incredible waste that these “developed” countries produce.
I’ll start taking photos of my finds, and put together a little gallery on imgur or something each week, since there seems to be some interest. This week so far has been pretty slow, but I did grab a couple of pairs of Nikes yesterday that should sell well. Anything free is worth saving up for, right? Haha
