Measures 8.6 long. Made from resin. It’s the same material that one would make a show horn or guitar pick.

I reckon shoe horn; it’s advertising something as ‘union made’, and it’s probably referring to something other than itself (because it would be a bit odd boasting that about a resin stick.)

Wow Thanks Antique Frog – NEVER even know there was such a thing.

I was expecting the kind of establishment where you rode your horse up to the bar, but it looks quite posh!

No matter how long any of us do this, it always bears repeating-
Do your due diligence on every piece of crap you put your hands on. Just because you don’t know what it is, doesn’t mean it does not have value.
I just sold my “shoe horn” for $230.00

Photo should be at the top of the feed. I found what I thought was a very unusual shoehorn at the bottom of my death pile. Almost threw it out.
luckily I came here first.

The opera house burnt down in 1913, so maybe someone did take it home to use as a shoe horn and that’s how it survived. Great sale!

Kaier’s was a brewery, and had beer taps in many bars, so it was sold in places other than the Opera House. It was in business from the 1880s through the mid or late 1960s. The Kaier family mansion still stands and is a Bed and Breakfast these days.

According to a letter written by Kaier’s daughter, the opera house was selling around 170 barrels of beer a day to the patrons. Doesn’t say what style of beer; presumably it had a big head on it, like a pint of Guinness.
